UncleJarvis reacted to TheGermanEngie in I need help with cameras and lenses
You make a very good point. Date your cameras, marry your glass. I recently had my portrait taken for high school and the photographer had a fairly recent Nikon full frame body but used a 35 year old lens. He printed it out on an 8x10, sharp as a TACK. So I may invest in better glass and work on my ability to physically get a better grip on my camera rather than spend money on a new body. Thanks for the dump.
Well I guess I know what I'm saving my money for now. Quality glass here I come. Thank you for the advice!
I mainly do portraits/street. The max I'd spend is $200-300 for a lens, I emphasize sharpness the most. So probably in the 15-40 range.

Why would linus be a great DJ but a terrible chemist? Because he would always drop the base!

UncleJarvis got a reaction from Orangeator in Is The Canon EOS M50 Mirrorless Camera A Good Buy?
Seems like a decent camera for vacation use. I'd recommend a backup battery because lots of reviews on this camera report short battery charge.

UncleJarvis reacted to Lsat0902 in Computer not displaying, possibly dead CPU
One morning I woke up and turned on my PC to find that It would not display to my monitor. I trouble shot everything in the book, new cords, switching ports, reseting the ram/CMOS ECT. Nothing I did made the PC work, my monitor even continues to go to sleep because its not even getting a signal from the PC. I sent my MOBO to ASUS under RMA and they sent me back a new one, but when I put everything back together I had the same problem. The only thing I can think now is that the CPU is dead. If you have any ideas on what I can try before I call AMD and send in my CPU for warranty, please let me know.
PS; It's a Ryzen 5 1600X Never overclocked, purchased brand new.

The PSU powers up? Tried running the system outside the case?
-
UncleJarvis reacted to Dedayog in Question about PSU cables and extensions
Extension cables are nothing more than elongating the connection that exists between the PSU, it's cable, and the Component. Order does not matter at all.
Go ahead and do your "what I want to do" example, it'll work fine.

UncleJarvis reacted to jake9000 in Starting over career, is tech a good place to start over in your mid 30's
Age is a factor but you won't really see discrimination til you reach your 50s. It's pretty easy to get your foot in the door but I have to warn you that entry level roles are high turnover and low compensation. When I worked in helpdesk I was only making $14/hr with no PTO. I topped out at $19/hr and I know my team lead was only making $23. Didn't make it to actual salary/decent healthcare/vacation days until I left client services and got into a proper systems administration role.

UncleJarvis reacted to LyondellBasell in Just bought a Canon T7i
If they don't have any reviews you may feel better going with a more expensive, validated camera retailer. The convenience and reputation of Adorama and BHPhoto is worth the price to many people, especially if you're determined to avoid grey market items or bad sellers.

UncleJarvis reacted to MSWindowsinside in RIP Windows 7-Time for an upgrade.
For Windows 8.1 you would need a new license key. For Windows 10 you can use your Windows 7 key for activating AFTER installing. This method is not on Microsoft's website anymore, but it still works and has no ramifications.

UncleJarvis got a reaction from Chronified in How cold is to cold
I used to maintain a PC repair shop in my garage. With the doors and windows closed, my tech bench was fine with outdoor temps down to 12F. I also never lost a customer's computer with the only heat in the place was the roommate's dog farting and the space heater at my feet.

For old games, get them from GOG, they are all guaranteed to work due to them applying all patches and testing to make sure it works

Pay for an A+ cert, and maybe a Microsoft or Cisco cert or two. Plenty of free online courses and videos to teach yourself the basics.
You'll get a low-mid level IT job easily. Entry level jobs would net mid-30k salary range in most parts of the US.

Sounds like the IP was reserved for the old routers MAC adress. Something I have not seen in over 10 years.
