  1. will give it a go once the 8tb hard drive comes in the mail, thanks!
  2. I do indeed care about it being free and open source, I just have 2 less tech-savvy people who are going to be using it and I dont know if its the right choice over Plex for the average end user. How would you say the usability is for someone who has never opened a command line or built a computer?
  3. understood, will figure out which one i have and go from there if i dont have the correct version what do you suppose is the most cost effective option (think used on ebay) for like 3 1080p transcoding streams max? only 3 people will be using the server
  4. What if i just re-encode everything to h264 so I dont need transcoding at all? or does jellyfin do something better than plex that i dont know about?
  5. So would i be able to get around this by just re-encoding all my files as h.264 so transcoding never has to be done? If i went this route would i even need a GPU at all?
  6. can you explain what "transcode video" means like im 5 years old
  7. I have no experience with plex but i want to build one using an old optiplex and a GPU + a new hard drive. Can someone tell me if this is enough for a simple plex server that can stream 1-2 instances of 1080p media to various devices: i5-2400 GTX 750 1gb 8GB DDR3-1333 8TB 72000 RPM Drive If you need more information to help me, please feel free to ask. I dont really know what im doing with plex so i dont know what kind of information i should give other than basic hardware specs.
  8. I recently switched from the VIOTEK GNV29CB which is a 2560x1080 120hz ultrawide curved monitor, to the LG 32GN63T-B which is a 2560x1440 165hz 16:9 non-curved monitor for my gaming PC. Something interesting ive noticed about going from a curved monitor to a flat monitor is my eyes see the flat monitor as a fish eye lens because my eyes have adapted to looking at curved displays all the time. Weird!!

  9. any suggestion for over ear options in the $150 price range? the person who will be using them doesnt like in-ears.
  10. i looked up the q20s and they are $60, i have a bit more to spend than that with a budget of $100, do you suppose i can get more if i spend the full 100?
  11. how effective is the noise canceling in your experience? what about battery life? is it viable to replace the ear cushions with aftermarket ones?
  12. thank you for your advice, would it help at all if i posted an image of the persons ear? Probably a bit strange but i want it to be as comfortable as possible for her
  13. -Comfortable enough to wear for 6+ hours while sleeping (this is the most important by far) -Bluetooth -Active Noise canceling -Under $100 Any suggestions? Thank you.
  14. Hi I know its like 6 months later but i havent resolved my issue, I finally figured out how to switch to nvidia driver but i still cant select 120hz
  15. I do not have a tab called "PRIME Profiles" unfortunately. This is what I have: I noticed that your nvdia settings panel looks different from mine, with a graphic of a video chip rather than the penguin. Could it be that I am using the wrong edition of the linux video driver?
  16. Sorry, the specs in my description is outdated. This is for my lenovo y700 laptop that has hybrid intel/nvidia graphics (GTX 960m/Intel® HD Graphics 530. Using the video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-470xx-prime driver with x11 windowing system. The laptop's display is 1920x1080 60hz and i am running it in extended mode with my 120hz 2560x1080 monitor. I have confirmed that this same exact configuration works in windows on the same machine. Here are screenshots of my display configuration: Output of xrandr: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 4480 x 1080, maximum 16384 x 16384 eDP-1 connected 1920x1080+2560+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 194mm 1920x1080 60.01*+ 60.01 59.97 59.96 59.93 1680x1050 59.95 59.88 1400x1050 59.98 1600x900 59.99 59.94 59.95 59.82 1280x1024 60.02 1400x900 59.96 59.88 1280x960 60.00 1440x810 60.00 59.97 1368x768 59.88 59.85 1280x800 59.99 59.97 59.81 59.91 1280x720 60.00 59.99 59.86 59.74 1024x768 60.04 60.00 960x720 60.00 928x696 60.05 896x672 60.01 1024x576 59.95 59.96 59.90 59.82 960x600 59.93 60.00 960x540 59.96 59.99 59.63 59.82 800x600 60.00 60.32 56.25 840x525 60.01 59.88 864x486 59.92 59.57 700x525 59.98 800x450 59.95 59.82 640x512 60.02 700x450 59.96 59.88 640x480 60.00 59.94 720x405 59.51 58.99 684x384 59.88 59.85 640x400 59.88 59.98 640x360 59.86 59.83 59.84 59.32 512x384 60.00 512x288 60.00 59.92 480x270 59.63 59.82 400x300 60.32 56.34 432x243 59.92 59.57 320x240 60.05 360x202 59.51 59.13 320x180 59.84 59.32 HDMI-1 connected primary 2560x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 680mm x 288mm 2560x1080 60.00*+ 1920x1080 60.00 50.00 59.94 1680x1050 59.88 1280x1080 60.00 1280x1024 75.02 60.02 1440x900 59.90 1152x864 75.00 1280x720 60.00 50.00 59.94 1024x768 75.03 60.00 800x600 75.00 60.32 720x576 50.00 720x480 60.00 59.94 640x480 75.00 60.00 59.94 720x400 70.08 Interestingly xrandr doesnt think 120hz is supported even though i know for an absolute fact the hardware supports it, as ive confirmed this configuration working in windows.
  17. the command goes through and it changed some stuff but its very obvious to me just by moving my mouse that its still running at 60hz. Monitor also says its at 60hz in the OSD restarting the session doesnt fix it either
  18. Option to set refresh rate is missing for my 120hz display connected over hdmi. This works in windows on the same computer, and ive personally verified that my cable works with 120hz. any ideas?
  19. In my quest to completely remove google from my life ive come full circle and bought another Moto G7 Power which is a resonably modern phone with a big battery that is supported by lineage OS. Hopefully i dont brick this one.

  20. PSA: Samsung galaxy note 3 does not support most of the 4g bands that modern carriers require and doesnt not support voLTE, so it is very difficult to get service for it. If you bought an old note 3 thinking u could go lineageOS and then mint mobile, you should return it.
