ImAlsoRan reacted to Alvin853 in LMG Sponsor Complaints
Since @CPotter specifically stated in today's video, they want to be more transparent about their sponsor relations, I would also like to see more transparency about any material relations with other companies. Not sure if this is the correct thread for a request like this, but it's the one I could find that fit the best.

For example the "All Alienware Setup" video from 2 weeks ago, nowhere in the video was it stated that there is any relation with Alienware, but how were all the items acquired? Did LMG buy all of them? Did Alienware send them over to LMG temporarily and everything needed to be returned, or did Alienware send them over to permanently keep them? If Alienware sent them over, were there any strings attached, like requiring a showcase? I found this video (and many like it) very intransparent about what I'm actually watching. The FTC requires any material relation to be disclosed, and while LMG technically doesn't fall under US jurisdiction, their main target audience is the US and FTC rules apply to companies out of country if they're targeting US citizens.

Linux will pretty much always be in the position its in. Its not good for most people, it doesnt have what it takes to become main stream, and they are okay with that. Distros that are designed with a purpose in mind can be helpful, but in general Linux is just not good enough.

Compatibility? If its not older then 6 months, its not going to be compatible with most linux distros. The top few will probably get a bit better support, but thats about it.

Linux people just are not worth the time and effort for benchmarks, they just dont view the content to make it worth while. Other companies have benchmarks, and the People behind the distros tend to do their own benchmarks. At the end of the day the userbase is just too small to make it worth while, and by the time it matters they would have either done some testing on their own, or just looked on wherever they go for their linux news.

Linux is for people who really enjoy tinkering with every last bit of their OS, and most people dont like that. Microsoft is awful, i want a new windows 7 type OS that isnt as intrusive as w11 is, and as bloated as it has become, but if it hasnt happened now it simple wont happen.

Seems YouTube has the aptitude to check if I have an HDR monitor but not the genius to check if the monitor it's actually playing on is HDR. My MacBook Pro XDR screen is HDR, but my monitor I'm playing it on definitely isn't. Now the video is very dark and flickers every second. Good job YouTube. It appears to have no way to disable HDR either.

At the same time Apple seems to be a little confused as to what "pro" means. They have the 14" and 16" MacBook Pro which I would classify as a "professional MacBook" but the "pro" in MacBook Pro for the 13" seems to be the public's view of anything labelled "pro", which just means "better" to them. I can't think of any professional that would need more than the MacBook Air but less than the 14" MacBook Pro. It's a weird release in general and seems to just be Apple sucking up to idiots that just buy something that ends in "Pro" instead of needing a more versatile computer.

They'll automatically install if they aren't present. Vendors push recent versions but Windows doesn't update them all too often. If you really want to have zero graphics drivers (you really, really don't want to do this– if you just wanna know what performance is like, just boot in safe mode and you'll see), you need to disable the auto install, which Tom's Hardware has a guide for here.

You'd know if you were truly on Windows base drivers if every game gave a DirectX error and your screen resolution was stuck at 640x480. You're still on iGPU drivers, they're just being auto-installed by Windows Update.

Most components nowadays have discharge protection so you probably won't damage anything unless you're doing a BIOS update. The real problem comes with Windows writing data when it powers off, especially if it's making changes to the OS itself. You might find your OS not booting at some point if it powers down at the wrong time.

If you really want an eGPU, you can try using the Thunderbolt 2 ports for it. It's theoretically possible and some people have had success with TB2 eGPUs on macOS. Just remember, any Intel-based Mac right now is a bad idea if you intend to to use it as your main or even a secondary computer in the near future.

Since PC gaming has become pretty mainstream, most devs make their games pretty optomized for mid spec hardware. Think a 1060 or 2060 for 1080p. It pretty much just scales by resolution. For everyday computing, you likely don't need much. You could go with an older i5 or Athlon CPU and it'd work great for general browsing and such. As long as it's an APU, it'll do fine. For programming, you really just need to focus on your CPU, RAM, and SSD if you're just compiling. GPU power only comes into the picture if you need to do stuff like AI training or you're working on something that's designed to take advantage of a powerful GPU.

I wish the notch wasn't there, but I'd take that compared to not having those pixels at all. There's already apps to blacken out that area and move the bar down entirely if you really hate it, and Apple hides it in full screen mode anyways. It's more screen real estate for people to use if they really want that option. I wish they'd let us have on-die RAM and swappable RAM that acts as a (very) fast swap partition, but I guess that'd be too complicated. I understand the expensive RAM, I just wish we got another option.

I'm considering selling my desktop for this (seriously) and just getting a Steam Deck or something since this level of power and this good of a display in a laptop are something that I've been dying for.
