  1. Hi all, I've had a Logitech G502 Lightspeed since 2019, it was a bit of an impulse splurge buy coming up from an the original G502. I've been a Logitech loyalist for a long time despite design issues (cables have frayed, feet have come unglued or worn out, wheel has become sticky for some stupid reason) This has been my favorite mouse, I'm sad to see it go, can it be saved? I've never had a sensor failure or button failure with Logitech until now. The left click feels like it's catching on the edge of the table, about 50% of the time it clicks normally. But 50% of the time it feels like it's catching on lip of the edge, it's quite a jarring feeling. Logitech shot down my warranty because it was over 2 years (what happened to them? when did the life of a mouse become only 2 years?) Anyways, any insight into what's wrong? If I can open it up and solder in a new switch, I'd be willing to do that instead of buying a new mouse. That's the frugal and anti-e-waste choice?
  2. Thank you @LogicalDrm I appreciate the advice. I assumed it was some sort of lighting equipment or some IT-specific gear us forum people might have encountered. It looks pretty configurable and modular which is what really caught my eye.
  3. Was watching a previous LTT video, Dan's setup really caught my eye. Timestamp 8:00 Do you guys know what sort of pipe framing Dan is using? Specifically the one with the 3x monitors Linus walks past. I'm not familiar with this hardware at all, Is this a proprietary system? Some sort of camera-gear standard? That setup looks really practical in an industrial kind of way. Very modular and customizable. I'd like to explore adopting it for my home setup. He's got this pipe framing set up looped all around his panels, I see some pipes being braced forward for stability, His panels look like they are hanging from the horizontal pipe, With some more piping stretching over head for lighting, holding headphones, tape That seems like a very practical set up getting things off the desk, with potential to have some storage and parts bins hanging from the piping. Mods, hope this is ok, I made a previous post when this vid was release, but it was merged by the mods into the actual video thread and so it didn't get any replies.

  5. Like the other people here, They go in a tub, but multiple tubs depending on category. Audio cables, PC external (power and monitor), USB, network I have been getting more diligent about coiling them and so each cable is it's own bundle secured with a ziptie or cable tie.
  6. I wasn't sure what sub-forum to put this, hope it's ok here in General. (sorry mods) I was watching the latest video, I've got a multi-monitor, setup (multiple 43" panels and some smaller ones). Dan's setup really caught my eye. Timestamp 8:00 He's got this pipe framing set up looped all around his panels, I see some pipes being braced forward for stability, His panels look like they are hanging from the horizontal pipe, With some more piping stretching over head for lighting, holding headphones, tape That seems like a very practical set up getting things off the desk, with potential to have some storage and parts bins hanging from the piping. I'm not familiar with this hardware at all, Is it repurposed camera equipment? Hoping somebody might be able to point me the right way. Thanks all!
  7. oh, ps. I'm perusing Newegg for options, https://www.newegg.ca/p/pl?N=100897450 601357651 601357647 601357786 601314311 601314320 601358838 601358839 601358837 I've never heard of these brands before, ABS (Sold and shipped by Newegg) Skytech (Sold and shipped by Newegg) IPASON Has anybody encountered them?
  8. Hi, I am looking to acquire 2 or 3 workstations for business. My tasks are mostly single thread bottleneck so I'm ok with either Intel or AMD. I'm already building my personal rig, however with the GPU shortage I know the best option to get an RTX 3070 (or better) is a system integrator. I'm am willing to accept the fact I'm paying a bit of a premium (business expense/investment) and won't be getting a top tier mobo and PSU. The downside is that I'm in Vancouver and the reputable one like Redux, Maingear and iBuypower are located in the states. I would prefer not have to deal with international shipping and support. I would prefer to stay away from Dell. Are there any options you guys can recommend? I'm making the assumption that Canada Computers and MemEx doesn't have a separate queue for business accounts buying whole machines? Thank you.
  9. Hi there, As detailed in another thread, I am a bit of a data hoarder. I'm planning to retire my i6700k as a file server. However, with the shortages of Zen 3 and GPUs happening right now, my planned build is getting pushed into the new year. I was hoping to find a temporary measure to clone and sync my data onto a 2nd HDD on my system. I came across SyncToy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SyncToy Synchronize takes the two folders and makes sure they have exactly the same files. To do this, SyncToy may copy files in either direction and may delete or rename files in either folder. In the case that a file has been updated in both the left and right folders, the version with the later modification date is considered the winner. This sounds exactly like the functionality I'm looking for. However it seems the software hasn't been updated since 2009. Wondering if you guys have a recommendation on what's the best temporary solution to hold me over a few months. Just hoping to get that extra bit of redundancy and peace of mind. Thanks!
  10. Oh wow. $30 is a fraction of what I expected to spend! Heck yeah! You mention that it's 4 generations old? Is there any reason to get anything newer? And where should I be reading up so I can learn more about this?
  11. @Jarsky thank you for all the advice. I've been completely putting this off for a while, I'm currently maxed out on storage, so I was thinking for right now, I'll get an HBA and 2 HDD, run it as JBOD for the next 2-3 months. Then in January, I'll get Zen 3 and retire the i6700k into the file server. I still haven't figured out which path to take. Still gotta figure out what criteria to balance. Is this the LSI 9211-8i you mentioned? It is described as a RAID card. I'm seeing some comments mention having to flash the firmware on them? Is that the case? https://www.amazon.ca/SAS9211-8I-8PORT-Int-Sata-Pcie/dp/B002RL8I7M If I'm flashing firmware... reading this thread, it recommends the IBM ServeRAID M1015 https://www.ixsystems.com/community/threads/confused-about-that-lsi-card-join-the-crowd.11901/ and that is this card? https://www.amazon.ca/IBM-Serveraid-M1015-Controller-46M0831/dp/B0034DMSO6 What are your thoughts on the IBM ServeRAID M1015 vs LSI 9211-8i? Thanks!
  12. @Jarsky Thanks for that info about Proxmox being for virtualization. Not sure any virtualization is needed for me, not yet. Would it be safe to assume that the file storage and redundancy is still good in Proxmox? and isn't just an afterthought? So hypothetically, I transplant my i7 into a new Fractical R7 XL and have up to 16 HDD capacity. I buy all 12 new HDD (so I'm not forced into unRAID) I'd be doing this with a combination of the 5 free SATA ports of my Asus Z170-A + some HBA cards? then file storage/redundancy is handled at the OS level? What happens when those 12 HDD are full? What does scaling look like after that?
  13. Power usage: Not really a concern. Unless its really crazy. Noise: More quiet is better? Let's say this one the lowest priority? If I have to relocate it, it can be done. Case: Currently Fractal Define R5 (8x 3.5" bays and 2x 5.25" bays, unsure if there is a conversion for those) RAID/Parity: Yes. Some sort of redundancy like that is something I want. Just unsure which OS and hardware will dictate the setup here. Mismatched drives: What are the options for matched vs mismatched drives? Ideally, I was thinking I'd be able to keep using my current drives + buy a few more? But if that bottlenecks me in say... 1-2 year's time cause the setup is more janky, then maybe I should/need to go buy 8 brand new drives and just start off with a better foundation? Also, Proxmox is free and open source? And unRAID is paywalled for certain features? @Windows7ge I'm not on too much of a budget as long as it's reasonable. Like I'm not going out and buying new enterprise gear. Mostly, I just want to lay a good foundation to continue to scale (who knows how bad this data hoarding is going to get? haha) I don't want to end up in some sort of hardware/software proprietary dead-end. If mixing HDD forces me into a proprietary solution or weaker foundation for scaling, then I'm willing to invest the money.
  14. Hi all, I'm a complete networking newbie (Windows OS only so far) Looking to make my first step away from just single do-everything desktop PC. A friend had mentioned getting enterprise gear and Proxmox? I wanted to check for your recommendations here. Current Setup/Gear Currently on i7 6700k on an Asus Z170-A motherboard All SATA ports are tapped out with full HDD. Currently no redundancy. Making me more and more nervous. I will require additional hardware. Buy used enterprise hardware? Or retire the 6700k for storage duties + add-in cards? And buy AMD Zen 3 in September? Storage controller cards for now (for the next 3-4 months)? For redunancy? Useage Primary useage is for data hoarding, These files, I don't ever want to lose: Work files, personal documents, videos, photos. These files, I can afford to lose: Temporary large files, videos and Steam library Needs Scaleable so I can continue to data hoard in the future (easy growth and migration?) less up-front cost of filling a server with drives? Also can benefit from higher capacity drives coming out. Redundancy Wants Not to have to address drives individually, all in 1 cluster? Maybe some sort of online backup? Currently using Backblaze on my Windows desktop Concerns Going down a proprietary route (saw Synology NAS fail on GamersNexus). HD failure, ease of detection, maintenance and replacement Connections Currently only connection is 1 desktop PC. May wish to scale to 2nd PC for HTPC Streaming to mobile devices maybe
  15. I am currently running 3 panels off the GTX 1060, As you said, 2x on HDMI, and 1x off the DisplayPort However, are you sure about this part? Can anybody else confirm?
