  1. my next thought is to delete everything off the new ssd and assign it a new drive letter. Maybe that's still causing problems in the registry
  2. I've tried that. the drive doesn't even populate in disk management anymore.
  3. I installed a new SSD and accidentally gave it the same drive letter (:D) as my dvd drive. Now on device manager it says: " Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) Object Name not found." I removed the SSD, uninstalled the dvd drive, that didn't work. Uninstalled the dvd drive and the IDA / ATA / ATAPI controllers and reinstalled and that didn't work either. Any ideas on how to make it work other than re-installing windows or just not using the dvd drive which I'm sure most of you would suggest (yes I'm old). Thanks in advance for your help.
  4. Thanks for the response, that's what I thought, but I wasn't sure.
  5. I just built a computer for my Dad using a Ryzen 3 2200G with an ASUS TUF B450 Gaming Plus motherboard and a WD Blue M.2 500GB SATA SSD. I was told by someone that I needed to change the bios to 4x multiplier in order to use the M.2 drive as a boot drive. Since it's the only drive in the build that's definitely what I need. Do I really need to do that before installing Windows and if so, how do I go about doing that. Thanks.
  6. My friend who works in IT installed windows. Not sure if it's OEM or retail.
  7. I'm upgrading my main work computer. I'm currently running an i5 4670 on an H81 motherboard. The I/O is starting to go out (usb ports, lan port, etc.) so I purchased a refurbished z87 motherboard. I checked compatibility with my cpu and it should be fine. My question is, do I need to reinstall windows or drivers? Can I just swap out the motherboard and let Windows 10 do it's thing? Thanks for your help in advance.
  8. I recently had a BSOD on my personal build computer. The Stop Code was Memory Management. When the computer restarted, the Ethernet port no longer worked. I plugged the cable into another computer and it worked fine. I bought an Ethernet to USB cable and plugged it into a usb 3.0 port on my computer and I'm running the internet that way. I ran some trouble shooting with my device manager but couldn't get the Ethernet port to work. Any suggestions?
