  1. So we should stop offering help to addicts then? Because that's exactly what's going on here... and addiction is a recognisable and well defined medical/mental health condition. An addict is an addict whether they're taking heroin, drinking or gambling. Once they decide they need help they should be able to get it. But then again, I live in a country where healthcare is a basic right rather than something only for those who can pay through the nose for it.
  2. My RX580 is now over 2yrs old and whilst I normally advocate against upgrading from one release to the next release... I am considering it because I now game @ 1440p rather than 1080p and the 580 struggles a little in more modern games. I'm not bothered about getting 100+ fps because I only have 75hz monitors. So I'll wait and see what the real world numbers are, then wait for AIB products to hit the market too and then wait to see what happens with prices towards xmas... and make my choice then... But I'll need to be seeing at least a 25-30% performance increase across the board before I consider anything a worthwhile purchase... and that means going from high to very high or ultra settings at 1440p and not really dropping below 75fps on any game. As for RTX... who cares, it's a niche within a niche within a niche at the moment... talk to me again in a few years when all games coming out have it. Until then all it's for is bragging rights... and I couldn't give a flying frack about elitism in any form.
  3. The only way to deal with companies like this is too simply stop buying their products. If you buy anything from EA.. YOU ARE THE PROBLEM... EA are just trying to get away with what YOU ALLOW THEM TOO. You: Take my money EA: We've decided we want more You: OK, take more money EA: That game you bought, we've removed features and content... do you want it for £xx You Take even more of my money EA: Hey, sucker... want a random chance to get something cool You: Will it help me win the game? EA: LOL... NOPE You: Take my money Now it's proven that they use psychological methods to deceive people, social media use the exact same deceptions and manipulations... So it's the easily influenced and gullible that tend to fall for it... Worse still is that those easily susceptible to addiction are even more likely to fall for these things. So if people are too gullible to realise that they're being scammed and manipulated by these companies, or they've simply become addicted to them... We need proper legislation to regulate it, Belgium has take the right move and I hope more countries follow suit. 'Loot boxes' by any name are a nasty, nasty thing and are designed purely to trick those who are most in need of protection from them. Also... FUCK EA in general... If you buy anything from them you should stop immediately. I've boycotted them for more than a decade now... I will never give them a penny of my money ever again.
  4. Just a quick reminder to all those saying it's covering the 'WHOLE' globe... 2/3 of this planet is water... do you think they're going to actually texture map 'ALL' of the water too?
  5. I can take RGB or leave it... I have zero interest in building a system that lights up. I do have some small interest in lighting on my mouse/keyboard as I'm often doing stuff in my home office without lights on... or just a lamp and the screens. So being able to see the keyboard better is a plus. But my desktop rig sits on a platform by the side of my desktop... it's a tool not a fashion accessory, so RGB is just for those that want something shiny to look at. Given a choice between buying something with RGB or buying the exact same spec item and saving money... I'll always opt to save the money... Hence those corsair ML fans I bought when I built my system DO NOT have RGB... and my H115 AIO only has RGB on the block, not on the fans... thank fuck they did a version without. My Aorus motherboard has some RGB on it... which is turned off... My ram is free from RGB. But it's getting a little hard to buy parts without it... which really pisses me off.
  6. Wait a few weeks until the RX5700's are out... You 'should' see either a drop in price of RX580's or a glut of them being put up for sale by people upgrading... which should also help drive used prices down. I can recommend the Sapphire Pulse 580's Mine is 1366/2000 stock and currently running at 1430/2200... the memory will go to 2230 and the core to around 1440 whilst temps (now that I've replaced the thermal paste) are mid 60's when running games @ 1440p
  7. Finds a random USB on the street... puts in computer.... either lying or a complete idiot... because only an idiot would put a 'found' unknown usb in their computer. Could be full of all kinds of malware and planted just waiting for some idiot to come along and allow it to be installed on their system. Either way... dumb.
  8. We have two types of refurbished products here... 'Manufacturer' refurbs and everything else. The former must be done by the original maker or an authorised repairer. Buying a manufacturer repaired item can save you quite a bit of money and they normally come with the same warranty as a 'new' one does.
  9. Go with nvidia if you like to pay more for less at that price point. But honestly, I'd wait a few more weeks until the RX5700 comes out and see what pricing is like for them... and if it prompts price cuts on other cards... Never buy anything so close to a new product launch.
  10. Why would anyone go for a 1650 when there are faster cheaper cars readily available... or is this simply a bias against cheaper/faster cards because of the 'name' of the brand? Wouldn't touch a 1650 with a barge pole if I was desperate... complete waste of money.
  11. If you've got a 1080ti... it's a complete waste of money buying a 2080 let alone a 2080ti... unless you just want the bragging rights of having the latest/fastest gpu. The improvement isn't good enough to warrant the expense... and having the bragging rights of ray tracing in all 3 of the games that current support it is all you can really have. Not saying you shouldn't buy one... just that it's economical suicide from a cost/value vs performance perspective. Unless the 'super' rumours come along with newer cards are 15-20% faster... and the existing cards drop in price a significant amount... It's a complete waste of time and money from a rational/logical perspective. Spend up to 1000 to get a 10-15% increase... or a huge decrease if you turn ray tracing on in those 3 games... Are people really that insane? Wait until at least the 3080 before upgrading that 1080.
  12. I'd highly recommend replacing the thermal paste on the gpu as well, I did mine a few weeks back and saw a huge drop in temps (from 81-82ºC to 67-68ºC).
  13. My bad... I double checked the box and I've actually got the Sapphire Pulse RX580... Which is supposed to be a slightly inferior version to the Nitro... yet mine has a higher base clock and OC's nicely. Have you tried the other bios?
  14. The sapphire ones seem to be pretty good. Mine is clocked to 1430 core and 2200 memory.
  15. So your system is gonna bottleneck almost anything decent made in the last few years. In reality it's kind of a waste of time buying a video card when you really need to replace 'everything' However... as you indicate you're budget is limited and that's not an option right now... I'd recommend buying something second hand to save some money. I don;t know where you are located, but you can pick up an RX570/580 for around £80-130 in the UK... GTX 1060 will set you back at least £160 for the 6GB version used... with most of them going for almost double the price of the 570-580. So due to your budget... I'd rule out paying a premium for an nvidia based card. get the cheapest 570/570 and then save for a new MB/CPU/RAM Or if your budget would stretch... go for a new MB/Ram with a ryzen 2400G as that would give you better 720p gaming without the need for a new video card at this time.
  16. I built a new rig on a B450 & 2600X with 32GB ram at the start of this year. By Jan next eyar I need to upgrade my mediaserver which is running Windows 7... Sure I could just upgrade to W10, but it's on an FX8350 and a lowish spec AM3+ board. I've got another 32GB of 3200Mhz DDR4 in the drawer, so upgrading my gaming rig and transferring this system into the mediaserver kinda makes sense. So I'll be really interested in performance/pricing of the new line... But performance/price needs to be sufficient enough. Getting another 6/12 core CPU seems like a sideways move. My gaming system is always the far more powerful one. the mediaserver just needs to transcode a of of media.. But getting an 8/16 core doesn't seem like a big enough step up. So depending on real world numbers/performance/pricing here in the UK.... I'm leaning towards the 12/24 core... I can't see why a system like that on a decent X570 board can't see me through the next 4-5yrs. Games are using more and more cores as they're released, so I'm thinking of future proofing my rig. Maybe by Jan 2020, prices will have dropped a little over initial release... By the time my next major rebuild comes around, I'll be needing a whole new platform (probably AM4+) any way.
  17. Interesting, I have the same card as you, but some of the numbers don;t add up... For example, my overclock gives me a nice increase over your Pixel fillrate.. texture fillrate is quite a way behind. But look at that bandwidth difference due to my memory overclock. Possibly down to mine having Hyrix memory over samsung. Same bios info, but my stock speeds are 1366/2000 and my overclock is 1430/2200.... It will actually go higher, but I was having heat issues and redid the thermal paste a few weeks ago... Just haven't got around to pushing the card higher again. The memory for example, will hit 2230 quite happily and the gpu will go to around 1450ish just for comparison, I reset mine to stock speeds and that stock 1366 gpu still gives me a slight advantage in pixel/texture fillrates 43.7 & 196.7
  18. Here in the UK anything over £18 gets charged VAT (20%) if it comes from outside of the EU... So you'd think that a $20 dollar shirt will be fine... Nope... they calculate the value of the item INCLUDING the postal charges. and they add that 20% on to the total amount. So that $20 t-shirt that's also $28 shipping means you get taxed on $48. Now I just checked something and the exchange rate if you buy through paypal today was 1.21... as LTT charge in USD rather than CDN for some bizarre reason (I checked). So that $48 comes to £39 for a single T-shirt... Then on top of that £39, you have to add 20% which takes that to over £46 and then those lovely people at the Royal Mail have their handling fee on top of that... because they assume responsibility for the import fee and then try to get it out of you. I'm not sure at this moment what that fee is as I've not bought anything recently that's got hit with the charge... could be a fixed fee or it could be another % tacked on. They'd have to come wrapped in gold to justify that kind of price. You can get high quality t-shirts with designs on them for less than £15-20 here. Now there is a way to get around it... it's a technicality and only really applies if you know the sender.... Items marked as a 'gift' have a £36 limit rather than £17 before import duty is applied. I've had friends send me stuff from the US in the past, marked as gifts or samples and they'd put a lower value of the item on it... but if it's damaged you can't claim for a higher value item. So the only thing to do... is not purchase anything and save your money... Because £50 for a bloody t-shirt is ridiculous, no t-shirt is worth that kind of money.. no matter what 'brand' is on the label.
  19. OK, that makes things a little clearer... This was the first time I'd built anything using an M.2 drive and so never even knew this could happen. If it's a manufacturer decision, I'll make sure to chose a board that gives full speed on the NVME M.2 slot and allows me to still have 6 SATA sockets. I'm not that bothered about adding a 2nd M.2 drive as I have a total of 2TB in SSD's for the big games that require faster speeds and the older games are quite happy on a HDD as they're smaller and don't require so much load/access time. part of it is simply so I can have ALL of my games installed rather than trying to make space by removing ones I don;t use very often... and with 200 or so on Steam and another 25 or so on Uplay plus a dozen or so on GOG.... It soon adds up.
  20. So I've been reading up ont he specs of the X570 chipset as I am thinking of upgrading my current rig with a new CPU/MB and using the current ones to upgrade my mediaserver (which is still last gen FX CPU/AM3+). The one thing that bugged me about my current B450 board (Gigabyte Aorus Pro) is that when you use the M.2 slots you lose 2 SATA sockets, and if you use the 2nd M.2 slot.. you lose another 2 SATA sockets... With a board that only has 6 to begin with... It really limits you. As I found out when I can't plug my BDrom drive in as 4 sata sockets are populated with hard drives along with an NVME drive for the OS and essentials. (2x 1TB SSD and 2x 3TB HDD that are all used either for gaming and or storage of stuff I can't keep on my 30TB mediaserver). Now on the X570, I read about the pick one part... so you can have either 1x 4x NVME or 1x 2x m.2 + 2 SATA slots.... So would I be right in assuming that this means you could reclaim those 2 extra SATA sockets (assuming they have 6 in total) but slow down your NVME by up to 50%? I really don't want to make the same mistake when buying a new board... losing 2 SATA sockets was something I was completely unaware was possible... In all of the reviews and research I did before buying anything... It's not something I EVER saw mentioned by anyone. Not LTT, GN, Kyle, Paul, Jay and so forth and so forth. Obviously as I need a minimum of 5 sata ports available to me, but at the same time don;t want to lose any performance of the NVME drive... So either my understanding is wrong, or I'll be needing an X570 with at least 8 sockets.
  21. In my opinion the general rulle when thinking about upgrading your graphics card is... never buy anything that isn't at least 2-3 generations on from what you already own. There are very few exceptions to this unless you have a low tier card, or when a company takes 3-4yrs between generations. So if you've got a 1080 series card right now.... it's pretty pointless upgrading unless you're one of those people who absolutely have to have the latest and greatest, if you buy into all of the hype and are happy to pay a premium for a product that you can only use on 3 games... and another 3 next year. The rational and logical choice is to wait until at least the 30 series cards before upgrading. As for those with AMD cards (myself included)... we've not really seen a new GPU from AMD for over 3yrs... just refreshes of the same stuff to improve performance by tiny amounts. (RX480, 2016, RX580, 2017, RX590, 2018) So Navi based cards are worth considering. If the rumours of the 'super' series are correct... then this is nothing more than a minor refresh and a tiny increase in performance at yet another premium price. It would be like buying a 2080 and then spending even more to get a 2080ti... Not worth wasting money on... Not that it will stop some from going 'ooooh, shiny, new, must have'. If the super series rumours are true and the prices of say the 2070 drop in price significantly... and by that I mean to seriously undercut the 5700XT... It's a good thing for consumer choice. But this is nvidia we're talking about... so they'll continue to charge a premium for something that offers less value for money over AMD's offering. AMD are doing so well in the CPU market that I think they can afford to take a slim profit margin on the GPU's to increase market share But we'll have to wait and see... I'm waiting for real world figures on Navi cards before considering an upgrade... and will now factor in any price cuts nvidia may bring to the table and see if/how they affect AMD pricing... then I'll make my purchase. My current card is fine for a while longer.
  22. Some of the old lucasarts adventure/puzzle games would be good. Monkey island series, Day of the tentacle, Full throttle and so forth... there are loads of them and they've mostly been remastered to run on modern hardware with updated graphics and sound. Also the Civilization series are great strategy games and can easily be played with one hand using a mouse or keyboard.
  23. ALL mega corps are considered evil in my book... they either use their near monopoly status to silence and crush any competition, engage in anti competitive practices to maintain their dominance and simply buy their way out of trouble when found to be acting illegally... or are just plain evil in the way they treat their slaves staff. The only thing they care about is money... consumers can go fuck themselves as far as all of them are concerned. If they see an opportunity to gouge the gullible buyers out of more money, they take it and rub their hands with glee at the muppets who continue to buy into their bullshit. Until consumers wake up to the lies, deceit, immoral and unethical ways these companies operate and stop supporting them by buying their products, or using their services...They will continue to abuse their position and the consumer. Don't be a sheep... Support companies that aren't utter wankers.
  24. I'd bet they'd be really analytical of every piece of data they collect too.
  25. It doesn't matter what the performance increase is... the fanbois will lap it up along with the huge price increase.
