The built in monitor one is showing the refresh rate as the cap for the FPS, I would just disable it. It will only be useful in titles where you get less than 144fps. I'd rather use the GPU software one over the built in monitor one any day personally. Zero point in having two on the screen.

I have to disagree with that statement, I have been running a clean install of Win11 on supported hardware since October 5th 2021, all automatic updates since installed, and I have had zero issues, even the printer and hard drive issues did not affect me and my 11 year old graphics tablet works perfectly with OOB driver support.
I use blender, GIMP, Macrium 7, Krita, Libre Office 7, Minecraft, Control, Assassins Creed Odyssey, Outer Worlds and a variety of other apps and utilities daily.
Win11 is not beta software, it is a developing OS, like Win10 started as and still is.
I am not however saying no one will have issues, even on supported hardware or that everyone should upgrade, decide for your self, Win10 is certainly more mature currently so unless you just want to try Win11 or desperately need it's features maybe stick with what you know.

You can clean install it and it'll work fine, but you won't be offered a chance to upgrade. Needs a CPU that's at least 8th gen for official support.

It is possible to install Win11 on unsupported hardware certainly, not guaranteed that every thing will work correctly, if at all, although you might be pleasantly surprised. However the question is really what is it you are so desperate to gain over Win10? What does Win11 provide that you just can't do without and are willing to go through all the potential effort and troubleshooting in order to gain?
Personally, on unsupported hardware I would be more inclined to stick with Win10 for the next 3 - 5 years.

Dude! You're the man with that only monitor display! Had to just set it to monitor only then reset the laptop and then it opened after 10 to 15 seconds.

Remove all the USB devices except your monitor, keyboard and mouse. Try again.

My Razer Charging Dock was mixing into the monitor OSD app cause the same problem at detecting my monitor for firmware update. I have the M32U.

As soon I removed that Razer Charging Dock; everything works.

I'm glad you got yours up and ready man! Happy for you. I have been chasing just trying to get it to open for 7 hours now. I don't get any error messages just nothing once I double click. Hmm 🤔

I have notice that CompactFlash Cards of usable capacities are rather expensive compared to Modern SD and MicroSD Cards.

BTW what is the Limit on those? The fullest ones I ever heard of is 128GB.

This one will require a 44-pin to 40-pin and Molex/floppy power adapter, as it's designed for laptops.

I'd say just get an IDE SSD, or a IDE-SATA adapter and a regular 32-64 GB SSD.
Will probably be more reliable and cheaper than CF cards.

And partitions are easy and simple and safe. Shouldn't need to deal with multiple cards.

    15$ for 4 GB IDE SSD : https://www.amazon.com/TRANSCEND-TS4GDOM44H-S-Internal-Solid-State/dp/B008LA8U8K/
(enough for windows 98 / Me boot drive, and have a separate partition on the 32-64-whatever formatted fat32 for games and stuff)

(random search result from an ok brand, there's some no-name ones cheaper, though debatable quality)

Windows 98 would need its own FAT32 partition, something in the 2-4 GB or more. Same for Windows Millenium, though why would you use that I don't know... You could probably install both WinME and Win98 on same partition in different folders but would be a mess and you may have compatibility issues with some games  and applications

I'd encourage you to get Windows 2003 32 bit and disable services meant for servers. you get the benefit of NTFS, stable kernel, drivers for XP work on it  (Windows xp 64 bit is more or less windows 2003)
If that cpu is 64 bit, keep at least windows xp 64 bit for those games or applications that are only available in 64 bit.

You can use a boot manager to switch between Windows versions ... Windows XP should detect the Windows 98 and other partitions and leave them be (just select custom install and select the rest of the cf card as ntfs partition) and add them to boot menu.
If not, there are linux boot managers and third party boot managers that would let you switch.

I just got my new ryzen setup done and running yesterday cuz my 6yr old i7 system's mobo died. just kept shutting down after abt 30 mins of normal usage. thought it was the power supply, did the paper clip test thing, the psu ran at full speed for 6 hrs before i stopped it. i removed 2 bios chips on the MB, think they were called p2.40 or something, system obviously no display but it stayed on for very long until i stopped it. i suspect it was the bios chip that died.

    1) you can try the paperclip test to make sure its not the psu. let it run for hours.
    2) if you have more than one dimm, try running diagnostics if your bios has it or use a 3rd party software with 1 dimm at a time
    3) try a burn in test

JayJayJedi reacted to Chris Pratt in Memory issues?
You will. The IMC on Zen+ is weak, and often has issues with RAM. Filling all four slots is putting a lot of stress on it too, so you might want to try using only two sticks. You might need to up the DRAM and SoC voltages to get stable, and you may also need to downclock the RAM.

However, if your plan is to upgrade to a 5950X, 3200MHz is actually too slow for that. You need 3600-4000MHz, depending on how high you can get the FCLK to run. Otherwise, you're leaving performance on the table, which is unacceptable for a $750 chip.

If you want to keep the current RAM and save money, get a 5800X. It's a single CCD design, so it's not as important to be paired with faster than 3200MHz RAM. There's very few usage scenarios that actually need a 5950X, and gaming in particular is not one of them.

JayJayJedi reacted to SupaKomputa in Memory issues?
1st and 2nd gen are max at 2999mhz especially with all slots populated, you cannot get full speed.
for memory speed, you dont need to have 5950x, the memory controller is pretty much the same with 5600x.

JayJayJedi reacted to Vishera in Memory issues?
The memory controller on the 5950X is way better so it should be able to run at those speeds.

In general games like higher frequency RAM,but CAS latency can also help with performance in games.
But for productivity both of them matter.

JayJayJedi reacted to Vishera in Memory issues?
The memory controller of the 2700X is not good so it can struggle in those speeds,
I got lucky and my 2600 can go up to 3466 no problem, but that's a silicon lottery thingy,it's a matter of luck.
So just use your kit in 2933MHz.

JayJayJedi reacted to peraPlejer in Memory issues?
You should match the RAM speeds to those supported by the CPU and use it like that. Performance wise, you may or may not lose up to 2FPS in games. I have DDR3 1600Mhz RAM and it may be better to go for faster ones, but speed isn't a main factor. Keep in mind, I am not a professional tech guy.

Most fan headers are rated for 1 amp, so as long as you don't come close or exceed that, you're fine. Most fans have it labelled on there motor hub how many amps they use. Most are usually between .1 and .3 amps at most in most cases.

It's the same as a splitter but in a different form factor. Go with whichever is most convenient. I find simple splitters the easiest for cable management.
The cpu_opt header is just another fan header and probably shares fan settings with the cpu_fan header. If using the same settings works for you, feel free to plug a fan into it. Make sure that the header is set to the appropriate mode (pwm / dc) for the fan.
