  1. I have an ASUS X99-E-10G and for the past 3 years I've used an ASUS PCE-AC56 WiFi card. In an attempt to install a more Linux-friendly WiFi card, I have been trying to get Intel WiFi working, but things haven't been going smoothly. I tried 3 different Intel Wifi card set-ups, although the first and last may be virtually identical: 1. I purchased this card first, thought it was defective and got a replacement, the replacement also didn't work: http://amzn.com/B07DMDZ888 2. This card also did not work: http://amzn.com/B081N58RMV 3. I purchased this PCIe to NGFF adapter http://amzn.com/B07SCZJ4WB and replaced my laptop's Intel 9260ngw I purchased in Aug 2018 (http://amzn.com/B079QJQF4Y) with a Intel AX200, so I'm using the 9260ngw with the PCIe to NGFF adapter. This is pretty much identical to #1 (see attached photos) Troubleshooting steps I tried for each card: Tried multiple pcie slots, checking device manager and the bios menu in the attached photo, also tried restricting to Gen 2 and Gen 1 on different slots. Troubleshooting steps I tried only with attempt #3: Updated to bios 1201 (didn't know it was available until today) Results so far: I have not seen a single one of these cards show up in device manager in windows, be recognized in fedora, or be recognized in bios as linked as x1 or x4. bios always shows "not present". I haven't managed to get any of them to be recognized by an OS and actually look for WiFi networks. Each configuration I've tried has looked like I made no changes to my PC's hardware. However, when I plug in the bluetooth cable to a USB header, bluetooth will work. I've tried googling around about this but it seems I'm the only idiot trying to use WiFi on a workstation motherboard. If you know something I don't, please write it down below. Thanks - Derek 29 feb 2020 x99e10g_setting.txt
  2. My system is back to the way it was before, CSM enabled, bios 1002, etc. Luckily I did not ruin my RAID configuration in the process (it takes FOREVER to restore it when I do mess it up!). I still want to know if this is normal behavior or if my MB is bad or if the BIOS for this MB has an error in it that has been present in multiple revisions. Getting into bios via windows does work with CSM enabled. ASUS gave me a "feedback form" to fill out and send back to them, and according to the rep, actual engineers will take a look at it and get back to me. Not sure what engineer at ASUS has the time to deal with a customer question but I'm gonna give it a go. This was their response when they offered an RMA and I asked if I could speak to an expert on this MB model before returning the MB. This MB doesn't act up in any other way, so I feel like the outcome of an RMA would be a round trip in the mail for this MB.
  3. I am now finding that in Windows, with CSM set to "Auto", the intel RAID 1 I have configured is not identified by the IRST program in Windows: The manage tab usually shows the RAID 1 configuration, but this is what it says now: Windows still recognizes the mirror: I will again clear CMOS and restore BIOS settings. I wish disabling CSM didn't have to be such a big freaking deal. Also I am noticing that my RGB settings are staying the same, but they are typically reset when I restore defaults in BIOS or I update the BIOS. Weird. Edit: I tried disabling CSM again, this time I did not re-configure the RAID settings after resetting CMOS. I also clicked "load optimized defaults" this time, which reset my RGB settings. The problem then persisted after disabling CSM. It does not seem to be related to IRST RAID then, even though turning CSM off messes up the RAID. I was on hold and the ASUS rep just hung up. He has my callback number though, we shall see what happens with that.
  4. So I have repeated this problem with bios versions 1002, 903, 802, and 603. In each one if CSM is disabled you cannot get into the bios at all (at least on this MB). I have tried it both with CSM disabled and secure boot enabled and CSM disabled and secure boot set to "Other OS". It does not seem to matter which I use, if CSM is disabled, so is bios (On this specific board). Still unclear whether or not this is normal, the ASUS rep I'm on the phone with now has me on hold so he can do some research on the board. I wish the last guy had done this. Edit: I'm tired of all this messing around, I'm going to go back to bios 1002 and try setting CSM to "Auto" Edit: Even "Auto" locks me out of bios entirely, just like 'Disabled"
  5. So when I do that in windows the computer restarts and goes to windows again. It really doesn't want me in bios settings. I'm trying the battery thing now. Hopefully I'll still be able to get my RAID back. Usually when I switch the controller to raid at first boot the raid comes back as if nothing happened. Edit: on hold with ASUS right now. Edit: ASUS representative gave me a case number and told me to try an earlier BIOS version and if that doesn't fix it I should send the board in. Every time I have sent a board into ASUS it has come back "tested" and zero issues found.... Also I previously sent in this X99-E-10G and they sent it back with some sort of glue (or very hard thermal paste) in the CPU socket. It was only covering a few pins and I was able to get it out without damaging them, but because of that experience I really do NOT want to send this board to them again.
  6. GPU to display via displayport. Specs: i7-6950x (new Intel RMA replacement in January) 64GB Corsair RAM EVGA FTW3 1080Ti Samsung 960 EVO boot drive I have just booted it with no bootable drives to try and get into bios (trying to get into bios through windows just rebooted to windows again), and it is just sitting on the code B6 which says "Clean-up of NVRAM" This configuration was all working flawlessly for a few years now until I disabled CSM. Edit: since it seemed there was no other way, I pressed the clear CMOS button. However, now it has stopped at code 76 with all of the fans running very fast. Codes 73-77 say "PCH DXE Initialization (PCH Module Specific)". I feel like I have lost control of this thing.
  7. Oh ok, that is helpful. Yeah I am using the latest bios. I have reflashed it recently too.
  8. I have noticed that if I disable the compatibility support module (CSM) in the bios settings of the ASUS X99-E-10G, the computer does not display anything on the screen until windows has fully booted, and it does not respond to my pressing delete, F8, or F2 while it is booting up. I have an Intel RAID 1 set up as well, and the IRST menu usually appears during the boot sequence, but this too is gone. The only way I have to get into the bios now is by using the "direct key" shortcut, but since my case doesn't have a reset button I have to open the case and short the pins. I have fast boot disabled. I should be able to have CSM disabled and still get into the bios settings during the boot sequence, right? Any help is much appreciated. Edit: I was wrong, even the "direct key" shortcut won't take me into bios, it just boots windows. This is frustrating. Why would ASUS design this to lock you out of bios if you disable CSM?
  9. I just reinstalled on my main drive bc I don't currently have a spare I could use for it, and I was anticipating it fixing the problem, but the hardware encoding is still disabled. This is really odd and disappointing.
  10. I was hoping this question wasn't coming haha, I figured a fresh install of windows would fix it, but I really don't want to have to do that again. I haven't gone a full year with the same windows install since like 2012
  11. ok with the wifi card in pci slot 3 I can still only use software rendering. I think it probably is a software issue but why isn't reinstalling helping. This is weird. It worked perfectly with my i7-8500k.
  12. alright, I'll put it back and see what happens haha. I hope I don't have to leave it there for adobe to work. I feel like it will either limit airflow or increase fan noise during games The more I use adobe the more it seems like its normal state is "not working" lol
  13. I reinstalled the drivers and all adobe programs. Completely removed adobe from my PC and then reinstalled only Premiere and the media encoder program. I also installed an older version of the driver and that didn't help. When I first uninstalled the driver and tried to reinstall however, Nvidia said that its driver wasn't compatible with this version of windows. After a restart that error disappeared.
  14. Oh you were thinking the hardware encoding would work if I moved the wifi card there? Darn, I thought you were just curious what device manager would say if I moved the wifi card there, and now I have already moved it back without testing the hardware rendering settings. Anyway, when I had the wifi card in PCI slot 3, this is what device manager said: Which is weird, it says they are both on the same PCIe slot. A photo of the card: It seems every time I move the card it gives it a new number, as you can see it says Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adapter #3. Before it said #2. That is because I had it in PCI slot #5 before. I recently combined my usb 2.0 extension with my USB 3.0 card so that I could conserve PCI slots and possibly add another PCI SSD without covering one of my GPU fans.
