I will definitely be looking into both! Ham radios rack up in price fast though 🫠

Which type of radio would be the best for an at home system? CB, Ham, etc.
If your goal is 'Truckers' it'll probably be CB radio. You don't need a licence for CB, however you'll find more contacts (and a much deeper experience) with Ham radio, which you'll need a licence.

Would I be allowed to use one without a permit? If I do need one, where and how would I obtain one?
You do not need a licence to own a radio and listen (in most countries this is fine). You don't need a licence to broadcast on CB using a CB radio.
You will need a licence to broadcast with a Ham radio.

Would I be allowed to ask people questions in the first place? Could there be a way to talk to them that wouldn’t impede on their job?
CB is open to the airwaves to whoever is listening. You might not get truckers. You might just get other people like yourself trying to find people to chat.
You're not going to get into trouble trying to start a conversation on CB, just as long as you don't interrupt or broadcast on emergency frequencies.
If you go down the Ham route, then the study you do for your licence will train you in all you need to know for your licence level.

What would I need to set up an at home station? How much should I spend on such a thing?
Really depends where you start out. Radio much like PC gaming is a hobby you can spend as much or as little as you want.

Is it possible to run a traditional microphone, like a Rode NT-1, into the radio to use instead of the hand-transmitter? Can a radio be ran through a audio interface, like a motu m-2?
I mean, yes you can. Most radios it would require a bit of custom work, but there's a lot of Hams out there running with broadcast quality microphones.

Ham Radio Crash Course is an excellent source of learning material on YouTube.
Don't let the cranky old hams hold you back. The amateur radio hobby is a massive rabbit hole of awesome tech. From Morse code, to TV to satellite communications and all kinds of digital modes. It's not just old school truckers running  AM/FM CB radios.

Yes, run while you still can! Your wallet and your SO will thank you for it.

But in all seriousness, I got my license shortly after I got my EE degree, since I didn't really have to study anything new to pass the exam at that point and it seemed like a good thing to have for professional reasons. I'm more of a lurker though, I mostly listen because the fun in it for me is building custom equipment. That being said, I fear I might be a few steps further along in the equipment hoarding scheme, I'm currently running an R&S SMH with TCXO option as carrier source, and I'm using an Agilent/Keysight scope card as SDR input.

HAM Radio stuff has always been one of my "maybe one day" type of interests. But in my country you need a license to broadcast, and the equipment is not exactly cheap, so the furthest i have gotten with this has been dialing with local online radios you can manually tune yourself, and listening.

Packet radio especially interests me, but it seems so extremely niche.

Hebdomad got a reaction from Arcanekitten in Tesla parts catalogue now available in postive moves in right to repair.
Much like Apple, energy company Tesla hasn't made it easy for DIY folks to repair it's products. This has now changed as Tesla has released spare parts catalogue for all three of its current vehicle models (S, 3, X) with easier access to spare parts presumably to follow.

    https://electrek.co/2018/10/29/tesla-parts-catalog-model-3-model-s-model-x-roadster-public/

If you've followed the adventures of Rich Rebuilds on YouTube you'd know how difficult it is to get spare parts Tesla with wreckers and abandoned cars being the only real source of parts. A few business savvy types like EV West have even cashed in on the rarity of these parts by collecting wrecks and selling entire drivetrains for EV enthusiast.

It's yet to be seen how easy the process is to access these parts and manuals but it's great to see Tesla make progress when it comes to supplying spare parts and repairs manuals to independent workshops and DIY enthusiasts.

Apple however will likely make it even more difficult to repair your own devices. If Apple ever ends up making a car as it's long been rumoured. Expect your Apple car to brick itself if you try to change a flat tire without an authorised Apple repair technician.

    *edit*

It should also be noted that Tesla has been working on this for over a year. Tesla might only be a "start up" but it's also a billion dollar company with lots moving parts like legal, engineering, Elons Ego etc... Not only would they have to deal with a ever changing and upgrading models (Tesla doesn't do yearly refreshes but they throw in upgrades/production changes as soon as they can) but all the documentation would have to be signed off by a dozen of so people from all the different departments to make sure it's all 100% correct.

I've had some success with Piriform Recuva.

The main tip I have is that you will want to dismount the drive in Windows before starting the recovery process. Don't allow any software to write to the disk (put it in read only mode if you can), since any data written can corrupt data you're trying to recover.

Sounds like you are doing a pitch for a media relations job.

Examples of tweets would be examples of tweets you would send as part of this campaign.
    Same goes for Instagram.
I would also add as a note below these examples explaining why you posted the content and how it supports the overall media campaign and why the content is fit for the platform you are posting on.

I'll use Linus Tech Tips Instagram as an example. But you should make your own posts as examples for your own campaign.
" Linus is a hot boy " Fits with the brand and corporate image of Linus Tech Tips.
Post is made to be humorous and shareable whilst showing of the technological and humorous side of Linus Tech Tips by making a joke using a high tech camera. Content is suitable for Instagram as it's highly visual with minimal text.

Hours upon hours of raw 4K / 8K footage. New videos every day. It adds up. You'll see they're always referring to previous episodes/videos so keeping hold of the footage is important.

Hebdomad reacted to BrightCandle in sous vide with water cooled pc
The problem is watercooling components are very much designed to be sub 50C and cooking is typically 50C+. Most components might get to 50C odd but the water doesn't, the water shouldn't really be above 35C in a system (ambient + 10C) although in hot climates that could be more like 40 or even 45.  You would have to specifically under cool (too few radiators) so that the water temperature rose that high, which would put the components a lot higher, maybe 75-80 C and then you would be potentially in the cooking range.

Sous vide however is all about precise temperatures for potentially up to 72 hours depending on what you are cooking so its going to be quite hard to get the temperature right. Plausible and possible but it will at a minimum damage the water tubing and the pump, neither of which is designed to be that hot.

    sous vide*
love the idea, and it makes sense, if you just run ur fans at a low rpm and maybe just use 1 120mm radiator for a cpu and gpu, u could achieve 70-80 degree celcius temps, which would be ideal for sous vide and work fine for gaming.

Might not work too well. Computer temps fluctuate pretty heavily as you do stuff, and sous vide requires a constant, steady temperature.
I suppose though if you wanted to run a stress-test for 5 hours to cook dinner, then go for it rofl.

Hebdomad got a reaction from Razarza in Vinyl Wrapping. A newbies attempt.
So I decided on a whim to play around with vinyl wrapping a pc case.
The plan was rather simple at first. Buy uber tacky looking wrap, stick it on. Done.
Not the case. It takes a little more skill to do it right than I might have thought.

If you are a newbie at vinyl wrapping like me, firstly I would recommend doing something small and flat. Like the top of a mouse. I tend to do things stupid hard way, so I went with a PC case. Why is this harder? The answer is hard edges. Anything more than a hard 45 degree angle will mean you’ll need to get the heat gun out. Corners are also tough to do right.

A word of warning with your heat gun, too hot and you’ll wrinkle the vinyl.

So I’ve spent a whole bunch of money on a mod that looks rather horrendous.
Could this have turned out better? Yes, but I would need a lot more skill. I would also need to grab some vinyl that did not look so horrendously bad. But hey, some people might actually like this, each to their own taste. I’ll probably be ripping this lot off. Lucky for me vinyl can be removed without damage.

Was it a waste of money? probaly. Did I learn a lot? yes, I certainly did.
