  1. Hi!Since I mostly use my PC for gaming I upgrade my GPU every generation to the fastest single GPU card, however I only upgrade my CPU about every 3-4 years. I currently play at 4K resolution and I like to max out every setting in a game. I had a 4770K paired with a GTX 1080 Ti, and since then I upgraded to an RTX 2080 Ti, and I felt like upgrading my ageing CPU as well so I upgraded to a 9900K. Now same as always I plan to buy the fastest single GPU card every generation (3080 Ti unless AMD can top it), but I don't want to upgrade my 9900K for an other 3 years at least. I know that Z390 mobos won't support PCI 4.0 and AMD will the first to support is this summer. My question is: How likely is that future high-end GPUs (the next two generations lets say) are bottlenecked by PCI 3.0? Techpowerup made this review recently:https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_RTX_2080_Ti_PCI-Express_Scaling/It concludes that PCI 2.0 bottlenecks a 2080 Ti but only by a very small margin. Now as I understand PCI 3.0 is twice as fast as PCI 2.0, and we had PCI 3.0 for way longer then 2 GPU generations, which means it took a long time for GPUs to be bottlenecked by PCI 2.0 if the 2080 Ti is the first one. I'm not planning to use 2 GPUs only one so I will be running PCI 3.0 16x. I know this is just speculation, we don't know how fast the next generation GPUs will be but I'm curious of what you guys think. I'm also wondering when my 9900K will become a bottleneck at 4K resolution if I play at max settings, the 2080 Ti can already handle 4K@60 pretty well with current games, so I imagine future GPUs will be able to push much higher frame rates at 4K, question is can the 9900K keep up for an other 3 years?   2. Thanks for the recommendation, I didn't know about Throttlestop, seems more practical. The article where the picture is from says the following: "Next up we have the Blender short run test and here the 95-watt TDP limited configuration can only burst up to 120 watts for 10 seconds. In other words, for about half the test it’s almost fully unleashed, and we were only seeing a 9% reduction in performance." So that means: PL1=95W, Tau=10s,PL2=120W, and thats it right? Or should I use the one from anandtech? PL1=95W, Tau=8s, PL2=118W? They used the 8700K for that one.

  5. This is the CPU core voltage you guys talking about right? But what about all the other 9000 voltage options? I don't even know what most of them are, do I just leave all of them at "auto" and only touch the core voltage? Because in that case it sounds simple enough. So I set both PL1 and PL2 to 95W?
  6. Well as I said, I'm kind of a noob when it comes to this kind of stuff, setting a TDP limit seems easier, I definitely don't want to mess around with voltages, because I have no idea what I'm doing, and I'm afraid that I'll damage my CPU by doing something stupid.

I'm kind of a noob when it comes to this kind of stuff, I just use my PC to play video games My problem is the following: I have an i9 9900K CPU, and it runs too hot with my current CPU cooler if I turn the turbo boost on. I tested it with the "Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool" and temps go as high as 90-95C, however if I turn the turbo off, i get temps like 48-50C under load with the same program, which is great but that leaves me with the 3.6 Ghz base clock. I'm planning to get a better CPU cooler later, but I want to turn to turbo back on until then to get better performance. First i tought I will lower the turbo target frequency of the CPU, but apperantely you can't do that. However according to this article the 9900K has an official 95W Intel spec, but that is not how it's running out of the box. And when you look at the temps there is a significant difference between no TDP limit and the 95W TDP limit, however this has little to no impact in performance when it comes to gaming (which is what I mainly use this PC for). So my question is where can I set this TDP limit in my BIOS? I have an Asus ROG Strix Z390-H mobo. In advance thank you guys for your help!
