  1. That's true. It depends on what you/I are comparing it to and under what circumstances. Under load, it is cooler, and I suppose if I had a horrible cooler, to begin with, I would see a larger improvement in temps. The main reason that I thought it should be lower was the difference in the Liquid Temperature (~31c) and the CPU Temperature (44c-60c). I guess that has to do with the thermal conductivity between the CPU and the Cooler, and the speed of the water flowing through it (and the water's ability to remove the heat from the heat sink/block).
  2. I was expecting it to be in the 30s based on my friends' computers. (to be fair, they don't have a 5700x, but still.) It's also not too far off the Air Cooler that I had on it. Are these temps what I should've been expecting? I might uninstall the ASUS. Depends on if I can get it to do what I want with the CPU_FAN header staying at 100% all the time. The NZXT is for the screen on the AIO.
  3. I just got an NZXT Kraken 360mm White RGB AIO and I have it installed on a Ryzen 7 5700x. I am using HWiNFO for temps and also have "Fan Xpert 4" installed through Asus's AI Suite and NZXT CAM installed. My CPU Temps are between 40-60c when Idle while NZXT CAM is reporting that the liquid is 31c. I don't know if I need to take the Cooler back off and apply some of my own thermal paste (I used what was pre-installed on the cooler) I have the Header that comes off the AIO plugged into the CPU_FAN header on my Asus Prime B550-Plus Motherboard with the fan speed set to 100% (I can plug it into the AIO_PUMP header but it looks better and is easier to use the CPU_FAN header). Any Help or suggestions are Welcome, Thanks! IMG20231225225720.jpg
  4. Like I said here: I'll be getting a heatsink soon when I get a few dollars.
  5. I am getting an AIO for Christmas so that won't be an issue. I think a large part of it is the restricted airflow because of the CPU cooler and GPU that make the path to the NVME drive small.
  6. I just took a look at the HR-10 2280 Pro and the Passive. It looks like the pro would be blocked by my graphics card. How is the airflow in your PC?
  7. That's Idle... I just cranked my fans up to 100% and have the door off and it is down to 60°C.
  8. I have been swapping around computer components in my house and swapped out my Asus Prime X470-Pro for an Asus Prime B550-Plus. The X470 had an NVME heat spreader and this new MB does not. I opened up HWiNFO and saw that the drive is at 67°C. Do I need to do something about this? Should I buy a Heat Spreader? Is my drive defective? Drive: Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 2TB [I don't have a temperature before the motherboard swap to compare to.]
  9. Thoughts on the Phanteks M25? What Forms of RGB do you use? Any product suggestions there? I'm curious as to what your PC looks like.
  10. I just ordered an NZXT H6 (Non-RGB because I don't want to deal with their fans). That being said, I want ARGB fans for my case. The case has 3x 120mm on the front, 3x 120mm on top, 1x 120mm on the back, and 2x 140mm on bottom. I have a Ryzen 7 5700x, currently a Asus Prime B550-Plus Motherboard (Likely upgrading to Asus Prime X570-PRO for overclocking headroom and it looks better). I will be getting myself an Asus ROG Strix LC II 360mm AIO for Christmas and I want to have the same (or very similar) fans throughout the case. White, good looking, A-RGB fans that won't murder my wallet are the goal. Ideally if they look similar or are the same as the ones on the AIO, I can save some money. **(I can also 3D Print brackets to adapt the 140mm fan holes on the bottom to 120mm if need be. I am going for a all white build and plan to paint my EVGA 3070ti XC3 Graphics Card Backplate and Shroud. [Looks like this] (Yes, I know it will void the warranty...etc,etc.) [Likely Paint my RAM white too] I primarily want fan advice but overall advice on my ideas is welcome as well. Thanks!
  11. That is true, and I never planned on doing that. I have a method in place where they can just unplug one cable and plug another in and have the internet backup without any extra features until I can come work on things. I'm only about 45 minutes away so its not impossible to make a trip down for the weekend and fix things if need be.
  12. Hello everyone, I recently ran into an intriguing problem with my Lenovo Legion 5 laptop that had me scratching my head. I bought a Logitech K380 keyboard and wanted to connect it via Bluetooth. Oddly enough, the keyboard was easily discoverable by my Oneplus 9 phone and Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, but it never showed up on my laptop. I faced a similar issue with my Logitech M720 mouse when trying to connect it via Bluetooth. After troubleshooting using various methods like running the Windows troubleshooter, reinstalling Bluetooth drivers, factory resetting the keyboard, and even connecting other devices via Bluetooth successfully, I was at a loss. Then, with a little help, I stumbled upon the solution: Press Win + R and type services.msc. Look for "Bluetooth Support Service." If it's set to "Disabled," change it to "Enabled." Right-click and select "Start." To my relief, these steps allowed me to connect the keyboard successfully. For those wondering, the "Bluetooth Support Service" in Windows is responsible for managing all the Bluetooth devices connected to the system. Enabling and starting this service ensures that Windows can manage connections, data transfer, pairing requests, and other essential Bluetooth functions effectively. If this service is disabled or not running, it can prevent the operating system from discovering or connecting with any Bluetooth devices. I hope this post helps anyone who encounters a similar issue with their Lenovo Legion 5. It's a relatively simple solution, but it was certainly a learning experience for me. Feel free to ask any questions or share your experiences below! P.S. This post is just to provide some information to anyone who has had this issue in the past since I was not able to find anything about it on the internet. The solution was actually given to me when I asked ChatGPT for help.
  13. I'm going off to college and am keeping computers running at my parents house for various things while I'm in a dorm
  14. So what you suggest is that I set up a VPN, pihole, and home assistant to get started and wait on the router until I get more knowledgeable? Do you have any suggestions for when It comes to Using VPN's to connect locally? How can I more securely connect to my current game servers? I use Windows Right Now and Teamviewer but want to swap to linux once I know how
  15. How should I go about backing up my main drive then? I'm currently thinking about using the System as a Router rather than buying a Ubiquiti Dream Machine to save some money. I plan to use Pfsense on Proxmox and run Pihole, a VPN, and Unifi control for my access points.
  16. Seeing as it doesn't look like I will be able to do what I want with a NAS and larger storage drives (because I don't have any atm and am limited to 2.5 inch drives)... What would be the best way to have pairs of drives (ex. 2x 120gb SSDs / 2x500gb HDDs / Possibly 4x 500GB drives to get 1TB storage?) and have them so that they are exact copies of each other to run small game servers that don't take too much storage and other services like home-assistant? Can I group drives like that and not include all 8 drives? Can I run the OS off of the two SSDs or is it only possible to have one? Is it even worth doing this?
  17. Ok, I'll definitely look into Unraid then. Are there any limitations when using docker with Unraid vs when using it with Ubuntu? If there are available resources, I'd also like to experiment with running a minecraft server as a test environment before I put it on my main game server system. Would there be any issues with storage with that since it is always creating more data as the world is procedurally generated? Would I put it on the SSD/Drive that the other containers are on or would It have to tie to the NAS array somehow? Update: After briefly looking at Unraid, the price seems a bit extreme for what I want to do. are there any cheaper alternatives?
  18. Is it possible to run docker with Unraid or no? Not that it really matters since I don't know how to use either yet so... learning either wouldn't make much difference I suppose.
  19. I will, I was just hoping to get pointed in the right direction and wanted to see if anyone has any experience with what I'm wanting to do. I read that Unraid is hard to run VMs and Containers in comparison to ubuntu/Linux is that true?
  20. So what you are saying is that I should have one drive for the system, running Ubuntu or whatever, loading docker containers, and other small stuff that doesn't need backups? And if I want to make a backup, send it to the NAS array? With anything that isn't a "program file" put on the NAS array, ie: backups, photos, movies, shows, etc?
  21. How should I go about the storage? Can I use the drives that are in the raid (Nas/Unraid) for the Plex server, Home Assistant, etc? or will I have to have separate drives for those and then the NAS for all my other files and back those services up to the nas? How does that work?
  22. I read somewhere that people had lots of issues doing it. I'm pretty new to Linux and docker and most things server related, my only real experience is setting up octoprint (on Ubuntu server) on an old laptop for my Ender 3 S1 Pro.
  23. Hello Linus Tech Tips community, I'm reaching out for advice on setting up a home server. I've recently acquired a Dell PowerEdge R430 equipped with two Intel Xeon E5-2620 v3 6-core CPUs @2.4Ghz and 32GB of DDR4 ECC Memory. The server has 8 hot-swappable 2.5-inch hard drive bays and my goal is to utilize them as a home NAS with redundancy. One of the challenges I am looking to overcome involves utilizing various hard drives of differing sizes. Ideally, I would like to incrementally increase the storage over time by swapping out any selected drive with a higher capacity one, without compromising the entire storage setup. Is this a feasible concept, and if so, could anyone provide some pointers on how to go about it? In addition to serving as a NAS, I would like to run a few services on the same machine, including a Plex server, Home Assistant, and possibly Nextcloud (or similar services). I understand that hosting multiple services concurrently could potentially present some issues. Could anyone shed light on what potential pitfalls I might encounter, and how best to avoid them? As for the software side of things, I plan on running Ubuntu and using Docker containers to compartmentalize the different services. However, I've come across information suggesting that running a NAS service in a Docker container might not be the best practice. Could anyone provide their experience or perspective on this? I appreciate any guidance on this matter and look forward to learning from everyone's experiences and insights. Thanks in advance!
