Gegger got a reaction from whm1974 in Do clicky switches get annoying?
to yourself? maybe? personally I've been brute forcing and bottoming out keys since I learned to type, clicks or typing noises are cathartic for me
to others? also maybe, it can be pretty damn annoying for some

Gegger got a reaction from da na in what prvius replies?
I believe that shows up because whoever replied before had their account deleted, but I am not sure about that

Gegger got a reaction from Eschew in Why don't laptops have reset buttons unlike desktops?
some laptops have certain keyboard combos that will force restart/reset, cannot speak for all of them though
for example many Chromebooks have reload + power button acting as reset "button"

I wanted to share a big development in my life with all of my fellow folders.
I don't normally share things like this because it always seems like bragging or something, but all of your collective positivity over the past year that I have been part of the group has really helped me so...
I am a medical physicist. Our job is to perform quality assurance on linear accelerators used for radiation cancer treatments, generate said treatment plans, and provide technical assistance in the treating of the patients receiving those treatments. My training included going to grad school for my master's degree (after leaving my high school teaching position of 10 years), followed by a 2-year residency, and a 3 part board exam process culminating in a 3+ hour oral exam. In the midst of all that, my wife and I moved three times, bought our first house, had two daughters, and braved a global pandemic.
I am happy to say that I recently found out that I passed my oral exam on the first try and am now officially a Diplomat of the American Board of Radiology (DABR).
As I said before, thank you all for your positivity and comradery over the past year. Without knowing it, you all offered me a respite from things and helped me maintain some semblance or sanity. I'm happy to call you all friends.
Cheers and fold on!

Gegger got a reaction from Eschew in Chromebook
you should provide a model number and ideally hardware ID or at least storage, RAM, and CPU specs if you want us to tell you if it's shit or better shit
while you can may be able run Minecraft or other Linux/windows programs if you do some...rigging, if it is possible at all remains to be seen, not to mention the likely horrible performance (ChromeOS does have a thing to run Linux programs now, but it is in beta and may not work well, I have not tested it though)
for example if it has an ARM or AMD CPU, firmware support for legacy BIOS or UEFI booting is either non-existent or not great. in addition, trying to run Windows or dual boot with low storage may be a huge pain in the ass
here is a helpful resource for determining if the device firmware supports other OSes https://wiki.galliumos.org/Hardware_Compatibility (yes, I know this is for GalliumOS but it is fine for seeing firmware compatibility)
some more random things you may want to look through:
https://mrchromebox.tech/#faq - see rest of site, too
https://chrx.org/ - nice for dual booting, I used it on my ChromeBox that has reached EoL in terms of ChromeOS support
