  1. Similar to my build and I have been very happy so far. I am running: Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Ultra Motherboard i9-9900K Cooler Master ML240L RGB (too small OC'd - this was my only mistake - should've went with Corsair H150i or at least 3 fans with RGB that synced with my motherboard) same ram similar HD - 970 EVO 1 TB 1000W PS - overkill (future planning) Gigabyte Aorus RTX 2080 TI Xtreme Waterforce 11G My only mistake was my CPU cooling - fine at stock speeds but should've went better for OC'ing- will upgrade later Don't go with faster than 3200MHz ram unless it is approved by the motherboard manufacturer Good luck and have fun!
  2. For anyone following this old thread. I finally am confident enough to try some unclocking. I have tried both manually in the bios and using Gigabyte's software. I am running at 5 GHz on all 8 cores and a Vcore of 1.35V. I am watching the temps, voltages, and frequency on all the cores on the CPU and the GPU. Nothing above 85C yet. The ambient temp is cool in my office so that is helping. I haven't stressed it yet, just benchmarked. I have benchmarked using the free version of 3DMark Time Spy 1.0 and achieved a score of 14513, that's a graphics score of 15197 and a CPU score of 11564. Oh, for a monitor, I am using Acer's Z35 Predator 35 inch Curved 2560 x 1080 G-Sync monitor on Game mode 144-200 MHz. I could push the system farther but will run like this for now as I am happy with the performance and do not want to shorten the lifespan of my machine. I tried 5.1 GHz and a Vcore of 1.375 v but it crapped out 3/4 of the way through boot. Thanks everyone, it has been fun.
  3. Hello, Here is an outline of my build: Cooler Master Mastercase MC500M Cooler Master V1000 Full Modular Power Supply Cooler Master Masterliquid ML240L RGB Gigabyte Aorus Ultra Z390 Motherboard i9-9900K CPU G-Skill Trident Z RGB 32 Gb (4X8Gb) DDR4-3200 MHz RAM Samsung 970 EVO M.@ NVMe 1 Tb Internal SSD RedDragon Mouse & Keyboard Windows 10 Home 64 bit I already had and installed a GC Alpine Ridge PCIe card to give Thunderbolt 3 ports for a external GPU with a AMD Radeon Saphire RX 580 8 Gb Nitro+ video card which I plan on using until I can get the RTX 2080 TI I want. I ended up pulling the RX580 from the eGPU and installing it directly into my PC so it would cooperate better with my HTC Vive and Steam gaming. It all runs fine except for the following three items: 1- I installed the ML240L as per the instructions, or so I think, but none of the case fans work at all. Only the ML240L and RX580 cooling work. 2- My front panel usb 3.0 ports do not work as they should. There are two cables coming from the front panel and only one usb 3.0 plug on the motherboard. One is a double cable (I assume for two of the three usb 3.0 ports) and one is a single cable(I assume for the third usb 3.0 port) I was advised to but a Y-cable adapter and in the photos you will see a double cable plugged into one branch of the Y and the single cable plugged into the other. Only one of the three usb 3.0 ports works properly. I get the windows message "USB device not recognized" on the two that do not work properly. 3- Lastly, the MC500M case also, in addition to the fans has a RGB LED partition plate directly above the power supply that is plugged in and not working. I am pretty certain that problem 1 and 3 are part of the same problem and I tried to contact Cooler Master but failed. This is the third computer I have built in my lifetime but I am essentially a newbie. Much has changed in 35 years. I am pretty proud of this build and would like it to be perfect if possible. Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
  4. Well, the verdict is in. It works with the Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Ultra approved G-Skill Trident Z RGB ram at 3200MHz and not with the Patriot Viper ram at 4133 MHz. Now to play with and tweak and benchmark.
  5. Update from the newbie for anyone following this thread. It should be entitled "Live & Learn". My 16 Gb (2X8) Patriot Viper 4133 ram came in and I fired up my beast for the first time. I knew I was taking a risk with this ram since it was not on the Gigabyte Aorus Ultra approved list for 4133 ram but the price was too good not to try. It would not boot. I double-checked all my wiring but no luck, so I returned the Patriot Viper 4133 ram and ordered 32 Gb (4X8) Trident Z RGB 3200 ram that was on the approved list. Slower, yes, but more Gb to hopefully appease me. More money than brains I suppose. Then, a wave of fear came over me, what if I didn't have the Cooler Master ML240L that you all justifiably gave me heck for purchasing connected to right plugs on the motherboard? That would have also cause it not to boot. We will know in two to three weeks when the new ram arrives in the mail.....stay tuned.
  6. Wow, thanks for all the feedback everyone. Well, I already have the ML240L cooler so I will see how it goes and get a better one later if it does nor suit my needs. Yah, I dropped the ball in that regard by not doing my homework there. Thanks again for the suggestions.
  7. I have the following for my build: Cooler Master Mastercase MC500M Cooler Master V1000 1000W 80+Gold PS Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Ultra Motherboard Cooler Master MasterLiquid Lite ML240L RGB AIO Liquid CPU Cooler i9-9900K CPU Samsung 970 EVO M.2 NVMe 1 Tb Internal SSD Patriot Viper 16 Gb (2x8Gb) DDR4-4133 Windows 10 Home 64 bit so far. I will be adding a Gigabyte - GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB AORUS XTREME WATERFORCE Video Card in March or April. - DONE! Monitor - Acer Z35 35 inch curved 2560 x 1080 in Gaming Mode 144-200 MHz. In the mean time I will run off of the HDMI port or I have a GC-Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt card and a eGPU with a Radeon Saphire RX 580 Nitro+ that I could use until I get the RTX 2080 TI. I video edit and game. Tell me what you think. Am I nuts? Then this summer, a better monitor and 2 more sticks of ram. I'm just 1080p now.
  8. Hello, Newbie here. Be gentle please. I purchased a Gigabyte GC-Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt 3 add-in card not realizing the motherboard had to have a compatible Thunderbolt 3 header on it to support it. Oh well. This was to support a Thunderbolt 3 eGPU that I have. I am considering building my own PC and like the AMD Threadripper 2950X. I have been unable to find a motherboard that supports both. I know I could live without the add-in card and eGPU but do not want $1000Cdn in tech to sit collecting dust. I could just go with an Intel setup but an Intel CPU with similar benchmarking is about $1400Cdn more. Thank you in advance.
