Stormseeker9 reacted to Zando_ in A build for my 11 year old....
The R5 1600 doesn't have an iGPU. No Ryzens do unless there's a G on the end, so there's no output to a monitor without a GPU.
EDIT: Also what PSU are you using that doesn't have a 6 or 8 pin PCIe?

The 1600 has no iGPU, so you won’t be able to display anything until your install the graphics card as the onboard hdmi will get no signal from the CPU.

why buy a cheap first gen when you can get a free loaner chip to update the bios
I didn't even say he had to get a new motherboard im just saying if it comes to that (like if his board is broken like he said) he should.

Stormseeker9 got a reaction from Fasauceome in Worth the upgrade?
May I suggest perhaps looking to AMD; 3900x or the 3950x if that fits within your budget.
I think once you upgrade your cpu you’ll see much faster performance - you have a really strong GPU already.

Stormseeker9 reacted to Spotty in Any tips on how to clean the CPU case
Spray some compressed air at it to clear the dust out. Hold the fans to stop them from spinning so they don't get damaged from being blasted by the air.
You really shouldn't need to clean the CPU [heatsink?] on a weekly basis? If your system is getting that dusty then you should invest in some dust filters for the case and move the system to a less dusty environment.

Stormseeker9 reacted to kelvinhall05 in New monitor came with a dead pixel, should i swap it for a new one?
Yes. You bought a brand-new monitor. It has a defect. It would be stupid to *not* return it.

Thanks!
Both Tdie and Tctl are the same value according to the "sensors" command, so I don't think I have that bug. I did try modifying the fan curve to be 20 degrees lower, but it didn't have any effect whatsoever on the CPU overheating to 94.2 degrees - only 0.8 degrees away from its maximum rated temperature.
It looks like my options are to either:
Stop folding (I miss out on precious PPD) Keep folding with the stock cooler (I have to put up with a loud fan that is running 24/7 while the CPU is only able to boost about 80-130 MHz) Spend $35 on an air cooler and five minutes installing it I think I'll take the third option.
But in better news, I just hit my first 100 WU for the month last night
