Stormseeker9 got a reaction from BiG StroOnZ in Just built a pc with a 7800xt and am wondering how afmf works, how to turn it on, and if it’s worth using in general, thanks!
Think this article explains it well

Stormseeker9 reacted to emosun in Using intel igpu as main + amd dgpu as for games only doesnt work anymore.
ok , a 20 watts drop isn't in any way a significant amount of power unless you live in a tent and are powering the pc with a car battery in the middle of nowhere.
that again has no relation or bearing to something that would be considered useful.
I think what may be happening here is you are under the impression that your main gpu wasn't designed to work as a 2d display device or somehow isn't able to do it efficiency while overestimating how significant a few watts or a few mb of ram is on a modern system.

Stormseeker9 reacted to Hinjima in Which to buy? (CPU)
I think the 5800x is a decent upgrade over your current 2700x. Yes the 5800X3D is faster but that doesn't make the 5800x slow!
€135 premium for the 5800X3D might actually be worth it if you want to use a higher end GPU. Have a look through this.

Stormseeker9 reacted to SupaKomputa in Which to buy? (CPU)
I would wait for 5700x3d or 5500x3d if you wanna get cheaper.
edit: Any X3D chips are worth it for gaming. even the 5600x3d beat 5700x in most games.

Stormseeker9 reacted to SorryBella in Best upgrade path for current setup? 2700x/2070/B450
nope.
Yes and honestly that would be it for Cities, most simulator titles, and F1 series for as long as they stick to EGO. If you have stock cooler you need an aftermarket cooler but after that as long as your case is pretty well ventilated you can run it on stock settings.

5800X3D. I got Assetto Corsa, Payday 3, F1 series, and probably soon enough Forza Motorsport.

On the money. Not every board can handle the high end Zen amperage demand but your board should be fine.

Stormseeker9 got a reaction from Why_Me in Best upgrade path for current setup? 2700x/2070/B450
gotcha, thanks.
So if I understand corretly, either the 5700x or go the extra mile for the 5800x3d? As the latter would be the best 'new' cpu for my current gen mobo?

Stormseeker9 got a reaction from Alinz in Power Supply has only 6 pin PCIE Cables but the GPU requires 8 pin.
Definitely instability.

Stormseeker9 reacted to Eigenvektor in intel vs amd
That question would make sense if AMD and Intel each only manufactured a single CPU. To make a comparison, you'd need to be looking at specific CPU models. The difference essentially always comes down to absolute performance and price/performance.
There's virtually nothing an AMD CPU can do that an Intel CPU can't and vice versa (at least in the consumer space), so at the end of the day it comes down to: How much money are you willing to spend on a CPU, which model offers the best bang for the buck at that price point.

Stormseeker9 reacted to Zando_ in NTIA recently calls changes for mobile app markets
Man. As someone who enjoys using an iPhone for the sheer simplicity and reliability of it, and has a lot of older/non-techie family members on them, I don't like the idea of 3rd party app stores, as companies will likely require them and refuse to publish a version to the native iOS app store. Basically, if you can get everything you need done in the walled garden, they are really nice.

Stormseeker9 reacted to --SID-- in Would a 500w power Supply Work for my build?
Do you come here to teach us a lesson or do you come here for good advice? I know you don't want to hear you bought a piece of crap but it is what it is.

Stormseeker9 reacted to DoctorNick in NEW PSU - connectors, is the new standard an issue
Not to be rude or anything, but half of what you're saying doesn't make any sense. You got a 3080, yes. Does it have the new power connector? If yes what converter does it use? If its the bad one, that can't bend without catching fire, then maybe just get another. Just to clarify CPU 8 pin EPS is different from PCI-e 6+2 pin connectors. ALso your instability issues might be ram related, considering you're using 6000mhz. Might want to check that out. Also if you got any OC or PBO enabled on the CPU, maybe test with default settings aka auto in BIOS. (you can just reset to optimized defaults/aka factory)

Absolute unit of a PSU. You’ll be fine, very solid choice

I always recommend Corsair RMx series - if available to you, you can have a look at these as well as a replacement

Stormseeker9 got a reaction from andrewmp6 in psu doesn't fit in case
Be sure to check that the pc manufacturer has not used proprietary connections, as then a new psu won’t work. Looking at you Dell.

Have you checked CPU temps? Is there adequate thermal paste / good contact?
what OS are you running?

Stormseeker9 got a reaction from JKRsega in MSI B450m Mortar Max is it 5000 series ready ?
Oh shit haha, I see where I went wrong 😑 my bad!
I thought ryzen 2000 was zen 2… and thus 3000 zen 3. I forgot that zen 3 was a 5xxx SKU.
as you can see, I haven’t built a new pc since then (sign)

Stormseeker9 got a reaction from deadlou666 in 3060 vs 2060
If you are upgrading to 1440p/144hz down the line, I’d fork out the extra £60 for longevity reasons and the extra performance.
-
Stormseeker9 got a reaction from deadlou666 in 3060 vs 2060
I would opt for the 3060, one gen newer and more performance than 2060
-
Stormseeker9 reacted to deadlou666 in Should i buy it?
At this price you may be able to get a 2060 but if not then yes that's a good price especially in Europe.
