You will be fine .Plenty of cooling going on in your case.Just remember the top card will run warmer than the bottom card. When i ran my 7970 Ghz Editions in X-fire the top card ran @ 80c while the bottom ran at 65c under full load.
I bought a PNY 650 Ti once from Bestbuy while my 6870 was at vacationing at rma land. Had it for two weeks it was a good card.
6870 came back, returned it a got all my cash back(can someone say Rental cards)
Man..... i did not see that shipping was unavailable. All i saw was add to cart.
That confirms it...... strike two i'm out.
ps Linus probably has one just laying around.
Just laying there in a pile of unused Motherboards
IF i remember correctly when i had my Sapphire R9 290X in my rig after gaming it would idle @65c. They are designed to run at 95 so your idle temps are going to be higher than normal cards. They also take a longer time to cool down.Thats why i slapped a Vapor X cooler on it.
Check it out (shameless plug) http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/95948-r9-290x-with-vapor-x-cooler
GPU's are my Kryptonite......Sapphire 6870,6970,7970 GHZ edition,7970 GHZ edition Toxic,GTX 680,GTX Titan,Sapphire R9 290X,and MSI GTX 780 TI Gaming.
When will the madness end?
Here's a run with valley no overclock just in uber mode.Fan speed set to up to 60%,and max temp set 80c in Catalyst Control Center.
Got a black screen with hard reboot while running it for 15 min(Valley benchmark). I think its because those mosfet heat sinks are not nailed down.
Will be ordering some thermal adhesive. That will teach those mini heat sinks.Anyways here a shot.
Ps ....i cant even hear the fans speed up.When it was on the 7970 you could hear those fans working.
I was bored so i took the Vapor X cooler off my Sapphire 7970 GHZ Edition.(ps i still got the Toxic version)
I then installed it on my Sapphire R9 290X. I installed some gpu thermal pads, and small heat sinks on the power mosfet's.They're half way sticking and drooping.
I will buy some thermal adhesive and reapply them. But for now its in the rig and working.I will remove it,order some adhesive, and re install the 780Ti .
For now here are some pics.
calm before the storm
clean up (eye of the storm)
removed stock heat sink (in the thick of the storm)
whew..! winds subsiding.
(storm passing)
clear sky's again.
