I guess it's also not quite possible to create some sort of a 'general purpose memory' that are both fast enough for the GPU and have low latency enough for CPU and other stuffs is it?
And cheap enough for people to buy it? I dunno..

It's ok. It should work for all titles without HDR as far as I know. If a game has HDR then you can just enable HDR in Windows and your monitor and you can then set it in game.

about the sam thing, i see in my bios indeed an option for "above 4g memory/cryptocurrency mining"
im guessing this is what i have to enable to allow my pc tomorrow to enable sam in the radeon software? should i enable this today already or wait and only after i confirmed that the gpu works as it should when booting up the pc and after having downloaded the necessary radeon drivers?
And also thank you for the link @emothxughtsYou should wait until the hardware is ready. Enabling on unsupported hardware can cause some issues.
All I think you need to enable is "above 4g decoding". I can check on my system to be sure.
Yes.
Above 4G decoding: enabled
Resize bar: auto
Some other thing is disabled.

no unfortunately it isn't but you don't need to worry as it only benefits with better cpus and 4k monitors where a lot of vram is used at one time. For SAM to work you will need a 5000 series cpu and 500 series mobo
This is not true. SAM is actually fully working on Ryzen 3000 and B450 boards. The board needs to have the BIOS update for that but most at least have that to download.
OP: Install the latest driver, yes.

Online it looks like the socket needs DDR 200/266 MHz memory in a so-dimm form factor... And tbh with you the memory you've got looks like the right thing to me but maybe it's the wrong gen. Is there a sticker on the RAM with some identifying info?
Sorry right. SO-DIMM.
I couldn't find what gen it needs, but good job on that.

It's a newer generation RAM. Laptop might need DDR2 SDRAM or something and your chips may be DDR3. So wont fit.

I got freezes and reboots sometimes while gaming with my 6900xt and a RMX 650. Upgraded to RMX 850 and no issue since. Probably due to transient spikes.

I got a FX-8350 and a GTX 970 that doesn't fit in the chassis. So would cost nothing apart from some metal work. Oh right it doesn't have a CPU cooler or hard drives but I got plenty of drives.

Not noticable.

Are you sure the laptop in question support NVMe and not just SATA M.2?

As he said, yes.

Why not keep the 1050 until you can afford the upgrade? Spending money on some temporary upgrade will just reduce your budget. I get it. The 1050 is not very good, but isn't it better to get a better GPU once than two decent GPUs?

See if it shows up if you try this.
Open cmd as admin and run commands
diskpart list disk
See it now? If you do it will be listed with a number like this
If you are sure you can see the drive input following commands with the appropriate disk number instead of typenumber
BEWARE ALL DATA ON DISK WILL BE LOST IF YOU PROCEED
sel disk TYPENUMBER clean exit
Can you see it in disk management now?

paying 5 years in advance for "auto drive" that never arrives
I really hope this never arrives. If it do arrive no road will be safe.

it seems to be working for them because now people think 2000+ is "good value" (for a 4090) lol...
I know. Crazy times man... Crazy times.
I shudder to think about future generations though. Hope this rig will last a long long time before something breaks.

zzzz....so you think your computer is representative of all others?
Your scientific /statistical method lacks!!!
Hard to speak to such profound logic.
I think it's representative of someone who cleans out his junk and maintains the system. Did YOU even try to use DDU?

Wow,
As I mentioned, v 23.1.2 was rock stable.
v 23.2.1 caused lock screen
Rolling back immediately and no lock screen since.
Pretty simple test, pretty irrefutable results.
IDK why you find it so hard to understand.
Yeah, it was an unstable release.
It is not complex.
I get a lock screen everytime I boot but it goes away when I press my PIN.
I find it hard to understand because I have no issue and I think there are underlying causes unrelated to the driver.

but it only cost half as much, so the clear winner imo . actually incredible value. and yes that was still true during the price hikes , up to a point.
i could have never bought a 2080ti, a 3070 was a complete nobrainer instead
Oh snap. I don't know why I somehow though this was about 4070 (Ti).
Yeah 3070 was pretty good. 1080Ti and such cards IMO are just there to entice buyers shopping at a lower end. I can't imagine much money is made at such price points, but when you're top of the benchmarks many buyers will think they should buy the little sibling.
16 minutes ago, Mark Kaine said:Technically they just doubled the prices for "midrange" ?
Yes, yes they did and also downgraded the memory to X060 card standard.

The drivers can have compatibility issues with certain configurations and workloads.
Or maybe it's just not the driver. Heh.

Just because you don't have problems doesn't mean that there are no issues with that driver.
Every time people complain about AMD drivers there are people that say that they don't have issues and portray the people complaining about the issue as if they made it up.
How is my card or driver different compared with other peoples?
Could there be something else causing these people issues, such as viruses but they just updated driver and blames it on that? Could there be incompetence? If it truly was driver issues then why don't I have issues? I didn't get a special driver? Clearly there is something else at fault.
-
This is just bullshit ...again.
I have no issue.
