  1. You might be able to reinstall windows without touching your files but I can't garuntee that. Worst case I would just pull the drive, get a mini SATA to USB dock, and buy a copy of easeus recovery software and run a deep scan. You should be able to get most all your files back that way. You will need another computer for this.
  2. Something like this should work: https://www.amazon.com/Syba-Adapter-Optical-Drive-Components/dp/B0081IOSOW You may need an adapter cable like this one too: https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Slimline-SATA-Adapter-Power/dp/B009JXKQ9O/ref=m_pd_aw_sim_sccl_1/133-8690134-4267223?pd_rd_w=NozHi&content-id=amzn1.sym.ab892632-7199-44ab-af68-cc822d588fe0&pf_rd_p=ab892632-7199-44ab-af68-cc822d588fe0&pf_rd_r=RPQB6P270VXH5QJJNCBP&pd_rd_wg=iQxaz&pd_rd_r=1d8b57f4-9f04-4fa1-8e46-b60213363b2a&pd_rd_i=B009JXKQ9O&psc=1
  3. I think Windows 7 did this. It would look like it was updating but it would get stuck mid update because the laptop wasn't plugged in. Supposedly Windows 10 allows updates without wall power, but I have a feeling the internet is lying to me when I look that up. This may have been what happened to OP. Not being plugged in it got stuck mid update and when the battery died, it corrupted their machine.
  4. Was your laptop not plugged in while updating? If so the battery may have died mid update and corrupted your Windows install. You can try system recovery, and that should keep your files, it'll just "fix" Windows. Otherwise it's also possible the HDD or hybrid SSD/HDD (depends on which model you have) is failing/failed. If that's the case, shut it off and buy a SATA to USB dock, get a recovery software like EaseUS and you should be able to recover your work (you'll need a different computer for that though).
  5. FACTS. HO scale or no scale imo. N is too small and anything else isn't as appealing and fun to work with as HO. It would be fun if they could set up a small loop to test motion blur when taking stills, and rolling shutter speed when filming.
  6. This would be great for simulator games, where you have functions and actions that you might constantly use. Like lights, auto pilots, detaching or attaching a trailer or other piece of equipment. I may actually buy one of these myself, seems hella useful.
  7. Howdy! Long story short, I'm thinking of making the jump from iOS to Android. My only concern is the music app. On iOS I can "heart" a song and then sort the songs I "heart" into their own unique playlist. Sort of like a favourites, if you will. I can do this in the music app on the phone itself as well as in carplay. I can't seem to find out if I can do the same thing on Android's music player. Is there an app similar to Apple's on Android that allows me to do this? Or is there a way to do this on Android natively? The music I have is all free stuff I've downloaded over the years (mostly from SoundCloud). Thanks in advance!
  8. Hmm. That's something I never considered. I have a cheaper Canon (SL3) and the only aftermarket lens I have is way better than the crappy kit lenses. I have my eyes on a nice Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 DG OS HSM | S, but that's still more than I can afford right now. I've always liked the way my photos turn out when using Canon bodies (mostly landscape and some nature) but seeing this I think I'll switch to something else when I grow into a full size sensor.
  9. Ah I forgot about that one ^.^; My B. Point still stands tho. You're probably right. I guess that's what happens when you like a company too much. I mean, I truthfully bought my LTT screwdriver solely because they won't make the black shaft after it sells out (so I've heard). But then again I will have good use for it, so it's not really in vain (I just didn't plan on buying it as soon as I did).
  10. I agree with you. One is a notebook for jotting down notes, one is a big book detailing the company's history. Although I have a big book, similar in size, about John Deere. Very nice pages, massive high res images and pages of descriptions. My mom gifted it to me and it costed her about 40 bucks. It does the same thing as Apple's book - it details the companies history, models, etc. If mass produced, there's no reason for Apple's book to cost more than 40 bucks either. Unless Apple anticipates it being very very low volume, or the publisher ripped them off big time and now they gotta make up the cost. Otherwise they're ripping people off, once again. 1k for a monitor stand that's less useful than the stand that comes with any cheapo gaming monitor. I like some of their products, but I don't like their predatory business practices.
  11. Why thank you ^.^ She's the lovely Dolly Dalmatian (from 101 Dalamtian Street) by DeadYoung45 on dA. (I have a thing for her ;-; )
  12. If you were a true enthusiast you'd know Apple is very anti right to repair, along with making indie repair shops lives a living hell if they try and fix something (RE: Louis Rossmann). You'd know Apple loves to charge 600 bucks (or more) for a motherboard replacement on a laptop, when all the problem is, is a small easily replaced component costing 4 bucks (granted, you need the skill and tools to replace it, but they could still do that if they cared). You'd also know how horrible and exploitative the working conditions are in their sweatshops. You'd know that you can build a computer yourself with better hardware for over 1k less in some cases (But I'll admit, sometimes you simply do need MacOS for something, I get that) I could go on, but I'll stop there. My point is, Apple makes decent products - I'll admit that. I like my old iPhone 6s and I like the look and feel of iOS more than Android. But Apple likes to think they're king of the market, that if you don't have one of their products that you're not a "pro." Fact of the matter is, the crown they wear is from Burger King. It's cardboard, it's not real, and it reeks to low hell of gluttony and pride. No one company makes the best product or tool for the job. For some, that's a Macbook, for others, it's a Chromebook. Same goes for tools. As others have said, 70 bucks for a ratcheting screwdriver is not that obscene. You can spend over 100 bucks on a good set. Most of us buying it will use it to build the occasional computer, tear down a laptop, and maybe fix a loose door hinge in the house. You can spend 383 dollars on a SnapOn torque wrench or you can spend 20 bucks on one from Harbor Freight. The difference? I would never use the HF one if I was a mechanic working daily on cars, I'd pay the money for the SnapOn - there's a reason mechanics use them. That said, I personally own a HF torque wrench. I use it rarely, maybe no more than 4 or 5 times in a year. It works perfect for me in that case. The same can be said about LTT's screwdriver or backpack. They didn't design a product to be used once in a blue moon, they designed a product to be daily driven, and to withstand that kind of use and abuse. If you can't put two and two together to figure that out, well then us berating you is about all we can do at this point. No one is white knighting LTT here, we're simply saying to look at it objectively. Something Apple fanatics seem to struggle with.
  13. Man unless I missed a vid, I literally didn't know this was a thing (not that I could have made it anyway). Where/when was this announced? I first heard about it in yesterday's video about that little baby server they used as a cache. I also randomly happened upon this thread just now. So maybe I just live under a rock with a starfish that eats Krabby Patties at 3am?
  14. Just don't use it as an eating surface. Unless you want chopped Cheetos all on your crotch.
  15. Curious about how well a laptop, tablet, etc would be protected from a substantial fall while in this bag. I've only crashed once, at low speed, but I was ejected off the bike into the middle of both travel lanes (thank fuck the road was closed. I ignored the road closed sign like a dingus). I didn't have my backpack on me, but I did ruin a pair of jeans and tore up my Carhartt jacket abit. This LTT bag is hella expensive, I'm just hoping it really is worth it as I like to buy things once if I can.
  16. @LinusTech I'm interested in this too. I ride as well but have only been caught in one downpour. My old Field and Stream backpack stayed perfectly dry inside. I think it was made of a similar type material to wetsuits though. It has since ripped at a known fail point at the zipper and they discontinued that bag.
  17. This is like that guy that bought one of those American Airlines tickets that you can use for whenever/wherever and it got revoked because it costed the company so much money. This is why you need a team of lawyers to write out all the legal-ese in fine print.
  18. This font is fucking with my dyslexia hard core. I'm legitimately getting motion sick. Looks like I'm logging off till April 2nd.
  19. This should be pinned. I don't ever see myself going to Windows 11. I will legit be switching to Linux permanently. But to be fair, idk what the fuck I'm gonna do for the rest of my family, so this is hugely helpful. Thank you.
  20. Some BIOS's have a setting that allows you to disable the use of a dedicated GPU, like the one you're trying to use. I can't seem to find a manual for your specific board. But in the BIOS, there might be a "Chipset" tab, enter there, then enter "System Agent (SA) Configuration", and there should be an option called "Internal Graphics" try setting to AUTO. There is also an option called "Primary Display" set that to AUTO as well. I just pulled this from a motherboard with the same chipset as yours, I'm not sure it's the exact same board as yours. But should be pretty similar.
  21. You might have to pop into the BIOS and find a setting to enable discreet graphics.
  22. The amount of AMC or GME stonks I could buy for the price of one these damn things...
