The ability to quote the entire OP in a thread should be disabled site wide. I will block anyone who quotes the whole fucking thing. If you need to break it up into pieces to answer specific questions, cool. Do it. But to just click the "quote" button and respond, fuck you. You're the kind of person who doesn't use turn signals and who doesn't check before merging into lanes. There's never any reason to quote the whole OP because the person who made the thread is there for a fucking reason. Fucking hell..

If it's particularly excessive (ie quoting the entire PSU tier list or something) then you can report the post as "Something else" and mods can snip the quote out.
Disabling the ability to quote OP would do more harm than good. Considering how often the quote function gets used, it's pretty rare for people to quote excessively long posts. Most people understand forum etiquette and realise that it doesn't look right. Other people are just new and don't know how the forum works or how to remove a quote.
-
@Spotty Good to know. However I do often see "seasoned" users doing this. Guess I'll stick to reporting it as "something else".

I understand your sentiment completely, and in fact this problem extends to this behaviour on any particularly large post, not just OPs of threads. For this reason, when particularly problematic we will generally edit posts to correct this. Unfortunately, I don't believe there's any practical way to disable this option without disabling the ability to quote period, which would be problematic obviously since, as you said, sometimes people want to target specific pieces of a post.

Unless I need to answer a list of questions I never quote OP. Reason being being OP they already get notified when someone posts on their thread.
It does kind of annoy me as well when someone just quotes a wall of text or imbedded videos, or sub-quotes, or some combination of all of that. It's like jeez either highlight what portion you want to reply to or don't quote at all OP gets a notification either way. Like, tf.

Please don't report every instance of this though, just particularly egregious cases where it forces you to do an unreasonable amount of scrolling.

i'd still love to see my mentioned feature @colonel_mortis, but i think it has been suggested before by someone
-
@colonel_mortis out of curiosity, do mods see who the report is from? Like if I report a post for the above reason, do they see "reported by TempestCatto 22:39 8th Dec 2019"? Or is it purely anonymous.
-
I can answer that one for you. It's definitely not anonymous. Some people have received warnings from mods for abusing the report function. They know who filed them.

To be clear, this is extremely rare, I can think of only one or two instances when this has ever happened, and it is only when the person has been given plenty of reminders that their behaviour is grossly inappropriate, when they are clearly abusing the report functionality.

To reiterate I said warnings (as in "reminders") not warning points. Although few & far between I'm sure warning points have occurred as well.
Sometimes I don't pick the best words for what I'm trying to describe and it causes confusion. That's my bad.
