  1. Contacted the retailer. They were pretty certain the mobo was busted and asked me to return it. Thanks for your effort @BetteBalterZen !
  2. I've now tried connecting three different SATA drives. None show up in BIOS. All slots shows as "Not Present". Could the mobo be busted?
  3. The m.2 shows up as GPT, while the Win10 USB Stick shows to be MBR. I did, however, install win10 on the m.2 from my main computer and then put it back into the troublesome build. Still no luck..
  4. @BetteBalterZen Thanks for your feedback! I can absolutely see how that might be a major issue. I've tried both m.2 slots - same result. I've got the m.2 in my main computer now. Am I blind or does Disk Manager not tell you if the drive is MBR or GPT?
  5. Hi @BetteBalterZen Putting BIOS to CSM did not help detecting the SSD. I've tried putting the SSD in my main computer, and it detects it fine. I've formatted it to NTFS. CMS did put some fancy red lines in the corners of my screen when trying to boot the Win10 USB stick tho - Progress!
  6. Trying to install Win 10 on a new build, however I'm only getting a black screen when trying to boot from the Win10 USB stick. Mobo: MSI MPG B550 GAMING PLUS CPU: AMD Athlon 200GE RAM: Corsair Value Select DDR4 2400MHz 8GB I've tried re-seating both the CPU and the RAM. I've also tried boot sticks for Ubuntu and HiveOS, both with the same result as the Win10. Flashed the BIOS to the latest version with the same result. The mobo is also not detecting the m.2: Kingston A2000 250GB NVMe This makes me think maybe the mobo is to blame? I'm not fmailiar with MSI mobos. Could there be some setting I'm missing? Gratefull for any help. Cheers!
  7. Hi! Ever since I updated BIOS the thermals on my computer have gone up. They used to sit around 32c at idle, now it's struggling to keep under 40 - which really makes a difference in accoustics... Looking at AMD Ryzen Master it seems like the CPU won't "settle down" at idle. The core speeds bounce from 2050 to 4175 GHz, while the Voltage bounces between 1.325 to 1.4v. The temperature bounces between 38c - 47c. Needless to say: I would like to see temperatures back to where they were before the update. Specs: MOBO: ASUS Zenith Extreme BIOS running everything on Auto (except for XMP) CPU: TR2950X CPU cooler: Fractal Design Celsius S36 w/ 3x Noctua NF-F12 The case also runs 3x intake fans + 1x outtake.
  8. Hi! I'm absolutely blank on the topic, so forgive me if there is an obvious answer to my question: I'm running four sticks of HyperX Fury DDR4 3466MHz 32GB (https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/HX434C19FBK2_32.pdf) on a ASUS Zenith Extreme with a Threadripper 2950X. I've never been able to run stable at anything above 2933 MHz (currently running DOCP at 2933 with everything else set to auto. DOCP at 3466 will not boot). Is there a way to make the memory run at 3466, as the vendor sais it should? Cheers
  9. Now to the part where I answer my own question! - The BIOS update reset the clock speeds, making the CPU run hotter. The more you know..
  10. Hi there - I'm experiencing higher than normal CPU idle temps. Short version: Windows update Saw CPU spikes up to 46% whilst idle BIOS update - blue screen of death upon reboot - windows repair No CPU spikes, but CPU temps are hard to keep under 46c, even at idle Detailed version: Relevant specs: Any ideas? ---- Whilst removing the cooler to change out the thermal pase I also realized the Fractal Design Celsius S36 really does not have a lot of contact surface on the TR2950X (see attached image). Any ideas as to what would be a better alternative?
  11. I'm running Unraid myself, and I have no experience using anything else.. so I can't really recommend any free options, as you've expressed to be looking for. Should you want to spend a few buck I can recommend Unraid warmly, though
  12. I just built one myself. Ended up going with a Fractal Design Node 804 as it houses 10x 3.5" disks and 2x 2.5". It's not terribly large - I've chucked it under one of the steps in my staircase. I got a fantastic deal on a Ryzen 5 2600 that had been used for 4 months. It is overkill, but nice to have at times, especially running vms. My box runs 16GB of RAM, but usually hovers around 36% utilization.. As for the PCIe SATA Controller I've ordered the LSI SAS 9207-8i from eBay as it is listed as "works out of the box" on the Unraid hardware compatibility list and was highly regarded on the Unraid forums. Remember to get the right cables for your controller - these tends to be the SFF-8087 to 4xSATA. Also: I ran into the issue where my PSU did not come with all the SATA power cables I needed to power all the drives. And boiiii do Cooler Master want you pay a pretty penny for an extra cable - so make sure yours come with all the cables you'll need.
  13. Yes, as long as you keep the enclosures and connector hubs there is no reason why you can't reverse this later on.
  14. My router is behind my landlord's router. While playing Apex Legends whilst connected to my router I'm experiencing an issue where all data center ping is -1ms and all packet loss is 100%. When I bypass my router, data center stats return to normal. This is, however, not a viable solution, as I need to be connected with other devices on my network. I've set up port forwarding for Apex and EA on my router. What am I missing?
  15. For the sake of interest I turned both off. Unfortunately it made no difference. My landlord wanted to have an extra backup for his files. A lot of them are photos. So: many and small files. The loading times in explorer/finder is significantly slower. Both in listing folders/files and in previewing and opening them. I did see something funny though: while streaming a video file, from my network the server would list outbound eth speeds of between 7-9 Mbps, whilst streaming the same file from my landlords network the server would list speeds of between 4-6 Mbps.
