As well as what @fasauceome and @LukeTheCoder05 said, you should probably know that RAM has diminishing returns on gaming performance. Doing creative tasks or running TONS of programs at once (that's why servers have a ton of ram) would be the only reasons that you would need anything over about 16Gb.

16Gb seems to be the standard for most gamers.

After 3200 MHz, the diminishing returns kicks in hard so 3000 is fine.

On top of that, next gen Ryzen is improving core to core latency, so faster ram will have even less of a difference.

There's no point since 3000-3200MHz is the sweet spot for Ryzen.

I would recommend a 360mm AIO simply becouse they are pritty much the only AIO size that beats top end air coolers. But they are expensive.
280MM AIO's are matched by big boy air coolers like the DarkRock Pro 4 and NH-D15, so imo you should get one of those instead.

There really aren't. The few exceptions are usually because of aggressive DRM, rather than the game actually utilizing it. Other than that it's something that was clearly added afterwards. Similar to how 2008-ish games will go full throttle one one core and lightly use a second. Dual core was just being adopted as mainstream, thus the shift.

Take a look at the latest Steam hardware survey. You have to design threading with certain expectations. Designing it for four cores (with optimizations for more later) gives you a target audience of roughly 70%. Designing it for 6 cores means only roughly 10% of people will meet the minimum requirements.

I don't think you appreciate just how difficult multi-threading is.

Except for factory boosts they weren't overclocked. Seems that the Vengeance is the clear winner.

Alright that is good to know. I will go with Vengeance then. Thanks for the help everyone :).

You realize hundreds of games are released every year, right? Two exceptions doesn't mean much. One of those is probably only because of the DRM.

None of us know the future, but if history tells us anything then it will be many years before mainstream adoption. Multi-threading on a CPU isn't an easy process to divide up for games. When dual cores came it, it took many years for them to be adopted into game development. It was the same with quad cores, and we're seeing the same trend in hexacore. There's no reason to believe that it will change until most gamers have at least hexacore CPU's. Developers program a game with a mainstream system in mind, and then sometimes add tweaks that will improve performance on the high end.

Lag is rarely a PSU issue, its either a Drive, Settings or other SOFTWARE Issue. Ie its totally normal at that point for the Software you're using.

Man you're worried about absolutely nothing. A 240mm radiator, save some super thin crappy ones, can cool a high end GPU perfectly fine. Much less a CPU that uses 1/3 the power... You certainly do not need a 280 or a 360 to cool a CPU.

Based on the information I have received, I will likely be going with a 2600/x, and then upgrading once Zen 2 drops. It is worth the wait, especially since I will not be gaming on 1440p or 4k as soon as I am finished with the build.

NPDPdev reacted to AvogadrosDog in i5-8600k Vs. Ryzen 7 2700X
If you want to go AMD then just pick up a 2600, OC to 2600(X) level and use the money saved towards Zen 2 where there's a good chance you'll get a really good CPU for your needs at a budget price. i5-8600k is good for gaming (although the difference between the 8600k and 2600(X)/2700(X) at 1080p is almost non-noticeable) and better than AMD for intel-optimised adobe programmes. My only issue with the i5-8600k is you're getting a 6c/6t CPU for the price of an AMD 8c/16t CPU - intel pricing is just not attractive at the moment with Ryzen running about.

But like with all PC building it depends on your needs and budget so good luck!

i cannot recommend a 8600k for a 2018/19 build due to a lack of threads, it's even worse for editing as it goes to 100% on writes, also bottlenecks your download speed if you have a fast connection, 2600->zen 2 next year or just a flat out 2700x is the solution here. zen 2 is gonna be alot faster than the 2700x.

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but if I bought a prepaid Cricket or At&t phone, and put in the Cricket sim card that I'm currently using, I'm assuming that the device doesn't have any special modifications to software other than carrier apps and boot animation, and it will react like any other phone not advertised as prepaid. Is my somewhat long statement correct? For the most part anyways. The phone I'm talking about is the Cricket Moto G6 Forge.

    Thanks.
