I thought I found a solution which involved going into Sounds and using Stereo Mix, but I didn't have that option. Messed around with the drivers, and got it to display, but then it killed the back aux jack so my speakers didn't work. Spent way too long just to get everything back to working, which ultimately removed that stereo mix option.

Hey all, I'm at a loss here. I used to be able to use Realtek Audio Console to mess around with my speakers and headset, but now I can't launch the app, can't find it in the Microsoft Store, and can't find a way to manually install it to save my life. I'm using a headset that uses the aux jack, and some speakers that use the aux jack in the back of the case. I primarily use this for the PC, but lately my buddy and I have been playing the Nintendo Switch, and I usually throw discord on the second monitor and switch the inputs on the primary monitor to the switch. Downside, is the monitor doesn't have speakers, so I just don't get game volume. I noticed the monitor has an aux jack on it, but I can't use the mic when I do this. I used to be able to have the speakers and headset running at the same time if I used the Realtek Audio Console, but that just gives an RPC service error when I try it (which I haven't tried using in a while, so I'm not sure how long that hasn't been working). My hope was to plug the speakers into the monitor to get game volume, use my headset plugged into the PC as normal for mic, and use Realtek to mix the two so I have Discord and game audio, which I'm not even sure if realtek would've picked up the monitors output, but that was the hope. The current solution would just be to plug the speakers into the monitor for game audio, and use my headset with an earcup off to hear the game and discord... but having a newborn, sometimes game volume blasting through the house is less than ideal. I'm half temped to get some sort of usb mixer, but I thought I'd reach out here to see if I'm just an idiot who's over complicating things. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Assuming it's relevant: Monitor is Gigabyte G32qc Motherboard Asus Z690P

So I took it apart and realized I didn't have the appropriately sized screwdrivers to take it all the way apart. Upon removing the back cover, I did find a screw stuck to the back plate that looked an awful lot like a hard drive screw. Sure enough, 1 drive was missing a screw. Reseated the keyboard plug that I could reach (I assume there's another buried on the other end), turned it on for kicks and giggles, and so far seems good to go. I'm betting on that screw messing things up for me because the keyboard ribbon was nice and snug before I reseated it. So if anyone has this issue in the future, ask them if they're an idiot who swapped drives at some point and lost a screw.. lol. Appreciate the help!

I have not. I was hoping someone might have a fix I hadn't thought of before I went pulling it apart, but I probably should take a look. Worth a shot at this point.

I'm not sure if anyone has experienced any of these issues but my Lenovo Legion Y740 just started acting up today. Some of my keys on the keyboard are doing random things now to include: H – types “+9EGH\P-\” J – Opens chrome settings for some reason U – Acts like F11 and full screens things 6 – types “`s56980=” also tries to reload pages. Was doing something else earlier, so this is a new one. 7 – Acts like F11 F keys are doing some random things too, but I never use them so it may but what they usually do... as I never use any except F11 from time to time, couldn't tell a difference. What I've done. 1. I know my windows updated a few days ago but I have used it many times since the update, so I doubt that's the issues. Did another update today, didn't fix anything. 2. Uninstalled drivers, and reinstalled them. 3. Grabbed updated drivers from Lenovo. 4. Verified all keyboard ease of use options are and were already off. 5. Disabled hotkeys from bios as per a google search recommendation. No idea what to do next. This is a new one for me. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Looking for opinions on building a setup for recording only.
Zapawaf replied to Zapawaf's topic in New Builds and Planning
I was using OBS. I can run max settings just fine without it minus ray tracing which I never bothered enabling. If I cap the fps to 60 it records ok, and I've tried 90 fps but when the GPU usage spikes the video gets choppy. -
Hey, Bit of an off question. I have a Lenovo legion Y740 with a 2080 maxq and 16gb ram. I've been able to max settings in less demanding games like csgo and record 1080p 60fps but now with the new MW the game maxes my GPU and recordings are choppy. I lowered settings and capped fps and it records fine, but I get motion sick believe it or not. I've read a few things about offloading the recording to another PC using a capture card (which I also have), but I was curious if I wanted to part together a cheap system strictly just to record, what would be the minimum I would need for purely recording and zero gaming on it?

Can you make secondary SSD your default install location?
Zapawaf replied to Zapawaf's topic in Storage Devices
Just an update. Ethan had me on the right track. But I did just locate this little gem and it worked. Figured I'd post in case anyone else ever cares to do so. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/933700/microsoft-does-not-support-changing-the-location-of-the-program-files -

I'll go dig around and see what I can find. Thank you -
Can you make secondary SSD your default install location?
Zapawaf replied to Zapawaf's topic in Storage Devices
Ahhh. I'll give that a try. It's not really a big deal, but if it works it'd be nice -
This may be a stupid question but here goes. I just purchased a new laptop that has a 256GB M.2 and the secondary is a 1TB SSD. Every time I go to install something, it wants to put it on the 256GB drive. Not really a huge deal, but I was wondering if it's possible to set the 1TB as the primary install location for future installs?

I'll give it a look. I've never heard of them.

Lenovo has a legion y740 with a 2080 maxq for $1800. I don't know much about Lenovo other than the tablets we carry at Verizon which are awful. But they're also "budget tablets". I'm thinking about trying it out if I'm not going to find a better bargain. I was hoping I'd get lucky and find an open box or certified refurbished.

Yes I am

I'm in the market for a new gaming laptop. I'd like to stick around 17" display, and if I can swing it, a 2080. I'd like to keep it under $2k USD. I don't care about weight, bulk, portability etc. I'm never far from an outlet so battery doesn't matter to me. I recently posted asking about a Lenovo legion, and realized maybe I should've just asked about general recommendations instead.

Looking at laptops. Lenovo Legion Y740 17"?
Zapawaf replied to Zapawaf's topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Yes I'm in the US. I really do like the larger screens. Weight and bulk doesn't really matter to me. I've been lugging this one around for years in a backpack and it's still serving me well (aside from not being able to play any modern titles). I'd like to be able to game on it. I do some video editing using Sony vegas but just personal footage. That's just a bonus, my main care is gaming. My buddy just got an Acer predator and that 17" 144Hz display looks nice. Also, battery life doesn't matter to me either as I'm never far from an outlet. If they made a PC case with a monitor built in I'd lug around a small desktop. Bulk doesn't bother me at all. -
I have an Asus ROG G751JM that's served me well these past 4+ years. When I had HPs the hinges would break in a couple years, so I've been pleased one the first laptop I spent a decent chunk on. I wanted to stick with Asus for around the $1500 mark again and I stumbled across this Lenovo Legion Y740 17" for $1800 on sale from $2300. Thoughts?

Best 17" gaming laptop around 2k?
Zapawaf replied to Zapawaf's topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Aside from the terrible reviews on the predator I was looking at, growing up they always seemed cheap for what you could get for the same money elsewhere. I guess it's probably a Ford vs Chevy type deal honestly. They may be awesome now, but when I was looking at laptops way way back, they seemed bad. -
Hello guys and gals, My ASUS ROG G751JM is feeling a bit dated these days, and I've been looking into laptops. But I was also considering maybe a small portable rig. I was looking at the SilverStone SST-RVZ03B as it's around the size of my Xbox One S and I've lugged that around many times and the RVA03 seems to be pretty similar in size, but it isn't compatible with Micro ATX. After looking at the difference between ATX and ITX, I'm leaning more towards the Micro ATX. Are there any cases that are close in size? I'm not finding really anything. Or is it possible to make the SilverStone fit.

Best 17" gaming laptop around 2k?
Zapawaf replied to Zapawaf's topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
I had looked at the Acer Predator and the Omen. I have my reservations with Acer, and the reviews for the one I was looking, at which was around $600 off, were pretty bad. Thanks for the tip on the RTX laptops. Looks like they're supposed to come out at the end of the month. Since I'm not rushing out to buy anything right this second, might be worth the wait.. But I would expect the price to be a little out of my range. We will see. -
Best 17" gaming laptop around 2k?
Zapawaf replied to Zapawaf's topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
I live in the US, budget is around the $2,000 USD range. Bulk/weight doesn't bother me, battery also doesn't particularly matter either because I'm always near power, and I'd really prefer to stick with the 17.3" unless there's a 15 that just blows everything else away in that price range. Side note, don't really care about touch screen, I've had touch on my last 2 laptops and hardly ever use it. -
Hi guys, I currently have an ASUS ROG g751jm ---> https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232383 and I'm shopping around for a 17" laptop in the $2k price range. Little back story. I used to love my HP DV6 then DV7 (if I recall correct) but I always had a hinge break and eventually the screen would go. The day before my last deployment, the hinge went on my DV7 and I needed something in a hurry, so I went down to my local best buy. Had literally no idea what I wanted, didn't do any research, and pretty much just grabbed the "best" thing they had considering I was leaving the next day for the better part of a year. I've actually really enjoyed this machine, and it's held up well considering I purchased it early 2015 and it's survived both being tossed around in a back pack, and I lug it back and forth to work daily. Through my work we sometimes get some decent deals on select brands, so I've mostly been looking at Omen, Dell, and Acer (only 3 brands listed on our benefits page), but I'm curious what everyone else suggests. This laptop was by far the most expensive I've purchased at around $1,500, but it's also held up about 4 years. I don't mind paying a little more if it means better longevity. Considering before this I was getting about 2 years out of my laptops.. granted, I wasn't as careful with my things in my younger years.. ? I've also considered something lighter with an external gpu, but up until this year I really hardly knew anything about the PC world so I'm not sure if that's even reasonable, or if that would become an annoyance with how frequently I'm playing games on it. What's everyone's thoughts?

Laptop shows 16gb ram but have 8gb installed
Zapawaf replied to Zapawaf's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Now it shows 12. Interesting. I didn't realize there was more tucked away somewhere. Thanks for the suggestions.
