airborne spoon got a reaction from Needfuldoer in Fastest way transfer files onto NAS
My old NAS took a crap and I had to transfer all the files (11tb) to a new spare 18tb drive. But when I did that it was all on one system with a live USB of Ubuntu.

I have been building a new NAS with server hardware and it should be operational today once the ECC RAM arrives in the mail.

I will be installing trueNAS and using it for Plex. I have a fiber 10GB line between my gaming PC and the server. When I built it years ago using old gaming PC components I just transferred in Windows via drag and drop. It took quite a while and I only had like 5tb at that time.

Is there a faster way to transfer that many files either in windows or Ubuntu?
I used rsync to transfer them originally during my recent troubles via terminal and it took about 17 hours.

Interesting well if I had a USB3 carrier I would do that but all I have is an old one from like 2007 that uses a mini-USB plug. So the old run a temp SATA cable to a HDD sitting next to the case is what I'm rolling with lol

    Sorry for misunderstanding.
I have no problem running "unsupported" RAM in my old HP/Dell servers so non ECC RAM should work fine. Worst case scenario you sell your old RAM if it does not work

Ok so this is what i found and since its cheap'ish i figured why not, shipped it cost me $300

    Dell PowerEdge R730XD 14B LFF
    2x Intel Xeon E5-2660 V4 2.00GHz 14 Core
    No RAM
    No Raid
    No NIC
    8x 3.5" Trays - 6x Blanks

although in hindsight maybe i should get ECC RAM or will the standard DDR4 2600 64GB (16GBx4) work fine for my use-case of a plex truenas server

Well nothing works… however, I put the original boot drive (M.2) in my gaming rig and it booted just like it's supposed to, to truenas.

Sooooo I'm gonna Frankenstein it around to find what is broken. My gaming rig is hard line water so I'm gonna start with the PSU and hopefully that's what the prob is 🤷‍♂️😂

Hi in the year 2023, Twitter lost a tremendous amount of importance, it was also heavily criticized by Luke and Linus for it actions and policies.
Can we at least stop using Twitter for necessary messages or Giveaways? People who do not have an account on Twitter get locked out of the LTT Verse.

Thank you guys for considering an alternative.

Here is what I finally finished with. Cut off the wall wort from the TV and installed a cigarette lighter plug. I installed 3x cigarette lighter ports in the wall so 1 is for the TV, 1 is for the USB adapter to power my firestick, and 1 spare.

Going back 10 years would be great. Think about it, I got 99 problems and money could solve 98 of them.

Yeah I'm retired now but if I had more money and I made 1 small change a few years ago I'd be in an entirely better place right now. (That small change is to not call a annoying person a cunt on Facebook, why do Americans hate that word so much BTW?)

That is one of many safety features all cars should have. Imagine if you break sharply with your car and the fuel is flushing around. That would have the very same effect as overfilling the tank.
Don't worry about it, don't stretch it. It's a total non-issue. Fill the tank until the pump stops, add a little bit more if you wish, but don't overdo it. If you overdo it once in a while it's still not the end of the world.

I can honestly say I never heard from someone who had damaged their EVAP system with "too much fuel". You just find a lot of people who try to spread awareness for this issue and not a single victim.

My question is is that legal up there in America's hat?

Well this turned into a soapbox, sorry. Also join the military the pay is excellent just learn how to balance a budget.

In the US it's federal law that wages can be discussed amongst workers and anyone regardless of any "policy" the business has.

I would think something like this would be a common law in any first world country. Like the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act that is the same in the US as it is in Canada and from what I can tell it's the same for the EU as well.

This is why I like working for the federal government anyone can see how much I make and that's the way it should be (E7, 19 years). I DGAF, also it allows for people to see how I am able to live the extravagant lifestyle I have. I should be able to Google random business x, worker title x pay is this.

Pay transparency should be a lot more common that it currently is. I mean I don't care how much the Jones' nextdoor make to live like that but if I did I'd know they were drowning in debt because they don't get paid shot 😂

Now you can make the argument that people in the same position one may get paid more than the other and in the civilian world that makes sense based on stuff like Jane has more responsibility than Dave type of situations. But in the army we just put people with more rank in higher positions of authority thus means Susan makes more than Johnny because she is a Staff Sergeant and Johnny is a Sergeant. Regardless people should be allowed to discuss their pay that way they can understand why they make less than someone else and can work to show they should be that person's peer in pay.

Also sometimes peers will have different workloads. Like I currently have a very chill position that doesn't require a hell of a lot of work, and I get to drive around and just talk to people and help solve their problems all day. But some other SFC (peers) have a large workload and are constantly working hard. However, the majority of the time the guy that's working harder, usually is short staffed or is very bad at delegating tasks. Even in all the other positions I've held in the last 20 years I will delegate that way the workload is separated according to rank/position and I mean plenty of time since some work that was several steps below my grade but it's good to be in the trenches with the people you are in charge of. It keeps you grounded and up to snuff on the basics and also shows your subordinates that you know what you're talking about when you say to do something a certain way.

But why would people have their brights on the freeway or in a city? like i live in the middle of nowhere 40 miles to the nearest town nowhere and that road has a lot of traffic but most folks are goo with turning them down when another car approaches. I dont see why someone would need brights on in a city.

Yeah it prob is illegal to wear 2 buds in a lot of places but that's another reason i say only wear one. Also if you're wearing a helmet nobody can see your ears anyway, its one of those things that if done responsibly its fine and screw the law. It'd be like a front license place ticket most of the time when that is given its because the driver was pulled over for something else and the cop decided to start writing up everything else.

I use 1 headphone in my left ear while I'm on the Harley (01 Dyna super glide sport). It used to be easier as i had an old pair of headphones and i just cut off the right bud. but now since there are no 3.5mm jacks i have to use BT buds and they are all so big and bulky the best I've found so far is a skullcandy one for like $40 and it feels loose and falls out but stays in my helmet occasionally and yeah I've tried all the different sized pieces that come with it to make the fit better.

Also i have to wear a full face helmet or a 3/4 helmet because the BT ones tend to be shitty and fall out so no more half helmets till i can find a BT bud that will stay in while being hit with 80-90 MPH winds.
Also my full face helmet has an space where i can install a BT receiver and install built in speakers by the ear area into the helmet itself but i did that once and it lasted like a month, the battery was trash and the speakers sounded like garbage.
Last thing wearing a bud in both ears is a safety hazard even at low volume it takes away from being able to hear the road around you and that's not a good idea. I've been riding for over 30 years and cagers don't pay attention to bikes so ya gotta pay double attention as a bike rider.

Like right now i go to the 192 address to access the TruNAS part but to add files i have to use a networked shared folder on my desktop.

What software and or hardware do i need to be able to do this? Any videos or guides y'all can recommend to help me learn how to do this? I have PIA VPN, and i also have Tailscale but i don't use that one very much
