  1. Also, I couldn't find a thread regarding the WAN show, so please direct me there if once exists.
  2. I just finished watching the WAN show from December 18. (yeah, I'm a few days behind) It seemed like Linus isn't aware of the term 50 Cent Party (五毛, wǔmáo). It's used, generally, to refer to shills for the CCP. It insinuates the people advocating for the CCP are being paid to make their posts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_Cent_Party
  3. I use the Holmes Small Room hepa-type for my bedroom. https://www.amazon.com/Holmes-Small-3-Speed-Purifier-Operation/dp/B00EDTKEE6/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1544408418&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=air+purifier&refinements=p_89%3AHolmes&psc=1 Then I use an upright panasonic for my living room/kitchen. I can't remember if it's true hepa or not. I've got two of each, and they work great for me with a dog. (and keeping my girlfriend happy because she can't handle even the slightest smell of dog) But I couldn't tell you if they make a huge difference with dust. For that I use a roomba 690. I don't usually have the ac or a heater running. I keep the balcony door and kitchen window open, with only a bug screen, but dust isn't an issue. If you think the dust is coming through a window, maybe try getting some kind of filter paper and tacking it to the screen?
  4. But why i9? If you can't justify each and every part, then you're potentially wasting money. And if you want someone to donate to help you, you need a more concrete answer than something "seems" the best.
  5. Time isn't a concern. It's actually been sitting in my closet for almost a year now. I was cleaning and found it again. I'm really just tired of carrying the alienware (and I want to sell it while it still has some value) Time-wise, I could just let it sit on my workbench until I can get to it. If it takes a year, or never gets finished, I just enjoy this kind of stuff. As for proprietary, I am going to start looking in to modern dell boards and see if any are similar to the layout. If I can get a similar non-working board for cheap, I can work on finding a way to make it fit. Which might be what I'm looking for. The idea isn't to make it a power house. Just to have some fun while making it more modern. Thanks for the replies
  6. have you ran a memtest? I bought my desktop cheap from someone running linux mint. He didn't tell me he was having issues, but when I switched the OS to Win10, I started getting blue screens and other issues doing seemingly mundane tasks that would randomly cause crashes. Ran a memtest with one stick in the mobo at a time. (4 x 8GB sticks took a really long time to do a full check) Found the bad stick and replaced it, never had an issue since.
  7. Hi all, Backstory: I really, really like my Dell D620 business laptop chassis. I've generally used it to take to work to do personal study or to screw around online. Unfortunately it's just getting too old to do even that. I want to upgrade it, but I know I'm at peak D620, because when I got it there wasn't any ram, wi-fi chip, hdd, or battery pack. While I currently lug around my alienware, I want to remove that strain from my back. I could just go buy a new laptop, but where's the fun in that? I know the D630 mobo will fit in the D620 chassis with some very minor modification. So perhaps there's an even more modern opportunity. I have no problem modding the case and have access to a 3d printer with the ability to create my own custom pieces as necessary. This is a pretty weird request, so bear with me. I'd like to find a replacement motherboard to put in the same chassis, because I really like it. But the point is to put in a newer spec mobo, not just a replacement. I'm not trying to find a custom motherboard, but somewhere I could figure out if a modern motherboard would fit into the chassis where I could put my own upgrades (modern proc, mem, etc.) Before anyone tells me I'm crazy and wasting my time, etc. I have a an Alienware 14, and a desktop with AMD A10, 32GB vengeance, and a 1050Ti This seemed like a fun project to me, but I can't find any info. If someone has a link to a site with various board specs(read: dimensions) that would be awesome. TL;DR Really like my old Dell D620, looking for a modern mobo to finagle into the chassis Thanks in advance for any suggestions
