Derkoli reacted to Capra Audio in I used AliExpress parts to build DankPods headphones
I would like to preface this with the fact that I was not aware of the plan when I initially sent these files. When a representative of LMG reached out to a Discord server I was in for recommendations regarding DIY headphones and parts and brands, I responded saying that I was making a design intended to be entirely DIY’d. I released it, and your representative was sent the link to the project and the files. That was the extent of my interaction.

I do realize part of this is on me for not inquiring deeper on the cause of this, and I should have done my due diligence in trying to find out more. When someone reaches out and asks for a DIY headphone project, I am going to try to provide them the best possible one I can find or make. It was my understanding that they would be shown as instructed, possibly in a head to head comparison of multiple DIY headphones.

If I had known this was the plan from the beginning, or even what this ended up turning out to be, I wouldn’t have participated in the way I did. If anything I would have been fine making a test bed for this project that was totally separate to goof around on! I’m seeing negative impressions of my passion project from your audience and curious comments about even being able to make these yourself despite having the files linked. I understand that you can’t control your audience, or that all of them will get the intent you had, it’s just a bit hard to see those things about something you worked on for the community, aimed at folks just like them to make themselves.

I had all the intent to have these be accessible, and having more visibility helps that, I just had hoped that more would grasp the idea that these are good sounding headphones that you can make yourself from this video. I feel like things could have gone better for all parties involved and I wouldn’t have been upset at all if LMG had asked me for something specifically for this. I guess to me this just feels like a missed opportunity.

This is the first I hearing of us coordinating anything about this project with you directly. I'll inquire about how expectations were set.

If it helps at all, I can relate to your frustration. Every comment I see about how bad this review is makes me want to put my fist through the screen and shout "what part of any of this made it sound like a review??"

The thing is, when 1M people watch something, if even 1% completely miss the point, that will be 10,000 people. No getting away from it.

I think most people are pretty clear that we made no attempt to build this properly because it wasn't the point.

Maybe there will be an opportunity to do a DIY headphone project where we build the Satyr 1 for real. I was very impressed by many aspects of the design and I think it could be a cool topic. It just wasn't the topic today and I'm sorry if you felt misled 😞

Yes, this is very possible and simple to do.

Connect your soundcard to the RCA input on the subwoofer, then connect the RCA output of the subwoofer to a random input of your choice on the Denon amplifier. The subwoofer will behave as the crossover, and then once youve balanced the subwoofer volume wise with the Klipsch speakers, you can adjust the overall system volume with the soundcard or windows.

Derkoli got a reaction from mononymous in any usb dac features subwoofer audio output?
Even the most basic Genelec subwoofers feature a built in crossover system.

You'd run two XLR's from your 200m DAC to the subwoofer, then the two outputs of the subwoofer would go to your 8010ap's. The subwoofer handles all the crossover stuff.

Derkoli reacted to Psittac in I've discussed e-waste and network firewalls, now hemp speakers!
That's cool and all, but quality speakers last for decades.  I don't know if it's really much of an e-waste problem and the cones are a very small part of the whole thing.

Probably not, unless your current DAC is pretty broken.

I have a hard time distinguishing between DAC's even on really expensive speakers.

For 1k CAD, I'd just maximise the speaker quality and get a 2.0 setup.

Either nab a pair of S2000MK3's (if you have an optical output on either your PC or TV), or you can push your budget a bit and get the S3000Pro instead.

Both are an excellent choice and come with a remote so you're not screwing around with getting up to adjust volumes.

If you want to upgrade to a 5.1 or 7.1 in the future, then you can simply buy a receiver with pre-out's and keep using these as your front channels.

    Lol what gameplay??

You saw nothing of gameplay outside a couple brief chases and a shoot out or 2 The vast majority of the footage was recorded in a white featureless test environment showing animations or some AI stuff.

You literally know NOTHING about how the game plays aside from its gonna play similar to a GTA game surprize surprize. You didn't need a leak to tell you that.

You know why game devs are so cagey about showing ANYTHING early or even confirming the existence of projects? Its because of commentary like this.

My only USB chargers don't have PPS, so my S22 Ultra will only charge at 10W.

Fibre was finally ran down my street, so I had 900Mbps fibre service installed into my house. Quite an upgrade to my old 60-70Mbps down and 12Mbps up service.

So I nabbed an Adtran 621X ONT to terminate the fibre I had installed.

Also just ordered a Samsung S22 Ultra, will post photos tomorrow when it arrives. 🙂

Dude how loud are you listening?

Your surround receiver is rated to 125W per channel at 8 ohms.

Your mains are quite efficient, so they should be getting incredibly loud.

First I'd go through all your settings and check you don't have some weird limiter turned on, or anything like that.

If your amp is really clipping, you can always add a seperate power amplifier to your setup as your receiver has pre-outs. Something from Crown, QSC, Apart, LAB Gruppen and some other manufacturers would work well.

Really, if your budget allows, getting a seperate processor (takes in HDMI and other sources, spits out audio into seperate analogue channels) and power amplifier (just boosts the signal to give it to your speakers) is always best IMO.

Derkoli reacted to Blademaster91 in what phone do you like more.
Samsung provides 4 OS updates, and 5 years of security updates.
And how often you have to restart your phone is just an anecdotal claim, also seems like a bunch of BS to me because no matter how magical iPhone users think their phone is, the phone is still gonna need a restart to apply an update. Also many companies are going to track you regardless, you have to be delusional to think Apple doesn't track you either.
It definitely does if the bloatware is spyware.
The iPhone 14 pro max starts at $1100, for one with 256GB.
Although launch prices are pointless as a Sony Xperia Pro I is $1199 for the 512GB, a Samsung S22 Ultra 512GB is around $1000 and a Samsung Z Fold 4 is a niche phone so of course its going to be expensive.

Judging by the frequency response of your mains,

    Set the LPF to 80Hz.

Set the phase by listening to some music and fiddling with it. What ever settings sounds best, keep it to that.

If you have the methods to measure your systems FR available, then use whatever setting measures best.

My grip with it is that it encourages him to act like that because it's him, like a "get out of jail card", whatever he do is just Linus being Linus, this is a thing that shouldn't be encouraged, he isn't a kid anymore, he has to learn that he isn't the center of the universe and his acts has consequences.
