  1. basically it's a gamble. you do your research, you gather info..but then you roll your dice. IIRC, this forum isn't high on the "grey" market of keys, so you might not get great answers here, one way or the other. IF you're looking for a windows pro key or something, then obviously the best choice is to go to microsfot themselves. From a key vendor you may get a good deal..you may get shafted, so saving a lot of money is no good, because you still don't have it.
  2. I was more wondering if this was something that would let Linux users run Windows software.... Thanks for the explanations....all of this kind of stuff exists in that twilight space of understanding for me... I kinda of get it.. but once I start to grab it, it poofs into smoke.
  3. I wanna step in with a dumb guy question on this.. What will this do for linux? Will it let them run older linux programs? Will it let them run mac programs? Windows? Don't linux programs usually get compiled on the machine they're gonna run on?
  4. I don't know bout Microsoft, but you know Apple's whole deal is about how they don't sell your data...rather than monetizing selling the data, they've moneitized not selling it. If anything, they'd be advising how to do this in a way that's useful, rather than just annoying like GDPR is.
  5. Wouldn't that be the FOZZY flaw? On the Plus side, LMG can get at least 2 if not 3 or more Click bait headlines out of this. And mabye then sempai apple will notice them.
  6. oh bravo...I had wondered why it looked the way it did...seems a bit "un-mac" like to me really.....hadn't put the obvious 2+2 together.
  7. i imagine when the stuff comes out there will be lots of videos from the usual places going over how well it works and where it falls short, but at this stage, it's interesting looking if nothing else.
  8. Back in college I had a program to install on macs in the dorm computer labs. It was a client program, then I'd have the master program on my computer...and when I wanted I could make the Energizer Bunny with Steve Martin's face (I don't know why..I didn't make it) just go marching across the screen. there was a program (also for the mac) that would make a vomit sound when you ejected the floppy disk.
  9. But enough about the UK government, let's discuss quantum computers.
  10. While I appreciate the serious analysis this spur has generated, I'll mention again, as the one who started the side track on a 2-in-1 type thing, I just thing there's something very sci-fi about it :D....likely cuz on Stargate Atlantis, they had devices like that..and in Avatar... I mean, these folding screen phones are dumb as hell..but cool. where's the dumb as hell but cool sci fi tony stark stuff for us mac people?
  11. See, with due respect to your knoweldge as a developer and the entire "Apple ideas aren't just about money makers"... Apple TV+ isn't being treated as a "just nice to have" addition to the streaming cosmos...it's postiitioned as a PREMIUM content provider. There's serious investment going on there...not to fill it out with tons of programs to fill hours...but for elite level content. Which means.. I dunno. Maybe the bits and bobs they've done IS just "why not" in the gaming field... but that really doesn't feel like the Apple way.
  12. This is what I was saying above...just weird little bits here and there...nothing major...nothing you can point to really...just some new API's...controller support...new graphics powers.. it just "feels" like something is brewing. Apple historically doesn't take gaming seriously, but they do take money seriously. And gaming is very much a gateway drug into computer ecosystems....so the logic is all there for _something_ to happen.... Like you said.. "Just “nice to have” or something bigger?" Apple tends to never do stuff "just because"... they have plans...maybe those plans don't develop the way they hoped and they abanndon them and the public is just left going "what was the point of that?" but they're almost always a reason they do something.... shurg. I just love the idea of flip the lid and it becomes a tablet....Again, I have no need for such a device, but it feels so futuristic to me.
  13. Not gonna lie, I'd love an apple device that could work like this...switch between regular OS and like iPad OS by flipping it around.... I have 0 use for such a thing, It's more gimmick than functional...but it just feels like such a sci-fi device that I just want something like it.
  14. I really feel there's something "big" in apple gaming on the horizon...nothing I can point to as evidence...and I'm certainly not the tech level person as you and many in the thread are..it just feels like there's a lot of moving pieces that there's something right out of view about to happen.
  15. I Don't understand what your talking about I don't understand why you're engaging in this... Moose is never in an apple thread for constructive discussion, commentary, or questions.
  16. FWIW, Anthony seemed really pleased with it in his video covering the announcements.,,I got the impression from him that it's a user friendly implementation of the thing the hard core linux geeks use.
  17. Can you give an easy(ish) explanation fo the difference between these? You seem pleased with the solution available while the other option would seem to be better?
  18. I HATE that...happend to me earlier in the month....was needing my printer (well wanting it more than need) and it wasn't feeding paper correctly and I was already over stressed and busy and just couldn't deal with it at the time. ...found out weeks later when I had time to tkae it apart that a hook had fallen off my self into the roller area and once i remvoed that it fine. Not related to the canon issue (though mine is a canon) but relating to the printer you barely use not working when you need it. automated firmware update check. It's rather common...a lot of software calls home on start up to check for updates.
  19. AH... I should think of it more as 16/30 than 1630! That makes it all a lot clearer!
  20. I wish these model numbers were logical.....I mean, I get the irony of me, a mainly apple guy complaiing about confusing model naming, but sheesh.
  21. I think I mentioned earlier in the thread, EA was a major publisher of Apple games in the IIe era. Despite whatever problematicness exists with the current company, there's value in the vintage legacy of the brand. re: the other platform discussion. while I see your points, I don't see them going that way especially with the big games... Apple TV+ isn't just available on Apple Hardware, for example.....(or is it...I suddenly realize as I only use Apple hardware for media comsumption...I don't actually know....well...either this is an example in your favor of mine )
  22. ....ok..I have a 8gig 1070TI.....are these "better"? From comments in this thread...should I be becoming concerned about my card becoming unsupported?
  23. do the model numbers have any meaning? where does a proposed 1630 fit compared to 1060?
