  1. Thanks for all of the info much appreciated. The range extender is only to get wifi in my back yard and for the nest camera I have. I will look into the Aruba switches again I dont remember seeing a short one. Thanks again.
  2. I am installing a home network in my home. I currently have 23 cat 6 cables run throughout the house into a network cabinet in my office closet. . I will be connecting 4 TV’s, 2 PS4’s, 5 computers, 1 network / plex server, 1 range extender, and 1 network printer. The rest are extra connection points in the house. I was looking to purchase a used network switch off of Ebay and I am not sure what to get. I currently don’t have any use for POE besides the range extender for the backyard but if it has it I can just not use it. As for managed or unmanaged I could go either way. I don’t have much network knowledge so I don’t know how much managing I will be doing. I think having 4 SFP ports would be useful if i understand how to use them correctly. I would plug in my server, router, one PC and the range extender. The faster speeds for those 4 items sounds like it would most useful. I was going to just pick one but found out that my network cabinet is only 14 inches deep from the front rails to the back of the cabinet. Most switches are 17.5 deep it seems. I did fine some 10 inches deep but at this point not sure what to do. Any suggestions on brands and model numbers would be greatly appreciated. My budget is 125 to 200 US.
  3. Thanks for the information I will look into additional PCIE slots. I will have to look up what a RAMdisk is that is a new one for me.
  4. Ok so just an FYI about me. I know just enough about building PC's to get my self in trouble. When it comes to networking and stuff like that I know almost nothing and my biggest issues is picking motherboards and video cards. I have gutted a bedroom and am making it a home office and installing a network cabinet with a 48 port switch. I Will have 5 computers connected to it 4 tv's PS4's and so on everything will get internet that way im hoping. So my server will be my Plex server and storage for all the PC's. I have a old NZXT Phantom Case I will be putting it in. The parts I have Picked so far are: Processor = AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (should be able to handle what ever I toss at it.) ( I could go with Intell i59600k same price and can use on board graphics so don't need video card. What MB to get though?) https://www.newegg.com/amd-ryzen-5-3600/p/N82E16819113569?Item=N82E16819113569 Motherboard = Asus TUF gaming B550-Plus (I picked for the 6 sata ports and the 2.5Gb Lan) https://www.newegg.com/asus-tuf-gaming-b550-plus/p/N82E16813119313?Item=N82E16813119313 Ram = Corsair 32Gb https://www.newegg.com/corsair-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820236678?Item=N82E16820236678 Power Supply = Seasonic Prime PX-850 Platinum (Went with Platinum for Efficiency) https://www.newegg.com/seasonic-prime-ultra-platinum-ssr-850pd-850w/p/N82E16817151209?Item=N82E16817151209 Storage = 6 Western Digital Red 6Tb Drives In Raid 6 Will depend on what is the better price at time of purchase. https://www.newegg.com/red-wd60efax-6tb/p/1Z4-0002-00MY7?Item=1Z4-0002-00MY7 Boot Drive = Will be M.2 Currently undecided but will also use for Plex data directory might split and use one for boot and one for plex MB can take 2 if I remember correctly. Now for the questions. 1. Will this Mb work for what i want to use it for? 2. Is the ram the correct speed and type? 3. Is raid 6 the way to go? I like the redundancy of being able to loose 2 disk. I was thinking of getting a external to do backups to and keeping it off site just in case. 4. What Operating system do i use? my plan was to just use windows since i have never used anything else. But I have been watching things on unraid and it sounds good I like that I can just add drives when ever needed and can just do one at a time of any size but does not sound secure. If I do backups will it matter much? 5.Speaking of adding hard drives. Only 6 sata ports do i use them for a raid 6 or get some type of card to do it? (here is where i am completely lost?) if i want to add in the future i know they have sata ports on a m.2 is that worth it? even then i need a port for a SSD to take place of the m.2 i am using? This is very complicated to many options. Ill end it here and see how it goes. I THANK YOU ALL FOR PUTTING UP WITH ME AND FOR ALL THE INFO, HELP AND ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE ME.
  5. My current PC is a i7-9700K @ 3.60Ghz 16.0 GB ram I am planning on purchasing a new video card either a Nvidia RTX3070 or a Radeon depending on specs and pricing. I want to run 3 screens I do gaming watching movies and everything else PC's are for. I would like something that has a really nice picture, bright I hate dim screens and a higher refresh rate so no motion blur. The 2 screens I was looking at are the AOC CQ27G2 27" Super Curved Frameless Gaming Monitor QHD 2K, 1500R Curved VA, 1ms, 144Hz, FreeSync, Height adjustable, https://www.newegg.com/aoc-cq27g2-27/p/0JC-0016-002N7?Description=CQ27G2&cm_re=CQ27G2-_-0JC-0016-002N7-_-Product&quicklink=true Normal pricing $250 and the AOC C27G2Z 27" Curved Frameless Ultra-Fast Gaming Monitor, FHD 1080p, 0.5ms 240Hz, FreeSync, HDMI/DP/VGA, Height Adjustable, 3-Year Zero Dead Pixel Guarantee, Black, 27" FHD Curved https://us.aoc.com/en/gaming-monitors/c27g2z Normal pricing $300 any help and opinions are appreciated if i am going in the complete wrong direction and you know of a better idea let me know my budget for each monitor is basically 300 kinda don't wanna go over that. Thanks again
  6. I have a case with a mother board ram cpu. I need to get hard drives either way i go so they are a wash so i need a SSD, Power supply. I was concerned that the CPU i have wouldn't hold up for multiple users. I have 3 kids with tablets 2 Play Stations and multiple PCs and Tvs with Plex so many opportunities for use. Right now they don't use it much but in the future I feel it would get used quite a bit? I know i can run it on that PC i have just don't want to set it up then have to redo it over in the near future. Also i think there was an issue with the MB i had i was going to send it out to be checked out and if expensive just toss it and replace with new one but still need to contact manufacturer. thanks again for the help.
  7. I have a old PC that I can use to make a Plex server but need to buy some parts. So I was thinking of buying an old server instead. I am looking for opinions and i am also looking for pros and cons of both. (link below of a potential server i was looking at). https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-PowerEdge-R620-Server-2-00GHz-16-Cores-32GB-RAM-4-Trays-/192757366586?hash=item2ce13bff3a The pc i have is a I7 2600k with 16BG of ram. thanks again for every ones help
  8. I found these 2 cards I know they are over 300 but i did a quick search and that under 300 dream died kinda quick. I don't see why one is about 50 bucks more then the other one? I dont see much of a difference in them. $322 - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=27N-0023-000U3 $369 - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=27N-0023-000U2
  9. I do have a budget i wish money was no object. I went with HD Radeon 6900 because I wanted to be able to run Different things on up to 3 screens and a TV with no issue and I would like it to be a good picture while doing it. I don,t need anything capable of 4K. I don't plan on overclocking but i would like to have the option encase the future would require me to. Those cards are more then i can spend I would say if i can stay under 300 for a video card that would be good. For the most part i am happy with the card i have. Occasionally one screen would not turn on so i would shut down PC and change port for that screen to a different one and it would work again. Other then that no problems that i know of. That window that i had spoken about popping up actually didn't close instantly. I am assuming it is the same but i have enclosed a pic of the screen. Thanks again for the suggestion.
  10. I do some gaming store lots of movies music and family photos. I use my PC to watch most of all my TV i watch. I use Skype while gaming and will also have the TV playing. I know it is overkill for what i need but i would rather have more then not enough and would rather have a PC last me a long time and not have to keep upgrading. Might make it a home server at some point but not sure yet.
  11. Hello and thank you all for your suggestions in advance. I am going to build a new PC and use some of the old parts temporarily. I want to be able to hook up 2 to 3 screens and a TV. I also want to set up 4 hard drives in a Raid 0+1 Case = Thermaltake Tower 900 (cause it looks awesome) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N1GP2GZ/?coliid=I21MELUK357WLB&colid=4RP6YS18VISN&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it CPU = i7-9700K https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HHN6KBZ/?coliid=I1V2N6TMOA0LZM&colid=2BRI7I7EF4HBC&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Motherboard = I have narrowed down to 3 but i am open to options since i am not sure if they are good for my needs. Would like to stay under 300 like closer to $250ish dont care about brand just want good quality and to be fast. also with these motherboards do i need a raid card or is it built in (sorry raid illiterate) https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813145090 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813145110 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813145089 Hard drive = I have a 480gb SSD for my operating system and programs and i want to hook 4 of the following up for my Raid 0+1. If they are not the right ones please let me know. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822146116 Video card = My current card is AMD Radeon HD6900 I will start out using this card in the new PC and will need to get another and put this one back in the old pc for the kids to use. No idea what i should go with? ideas helpful. Thanks again for your time
  12. Not exactly no other issues. For a while i was getting a glitter effect when watching videos. Also the glitter effect was only in the video the rest of the screen was normal. The window that pops up is not during booting it is while the pc is on and i am using it and random from what i can tell. I believe i did clean and add new thermal paste on the CPU. On the video card i only removed the cover didn't take anything else apart. I will try removing the battery and see if the auto overclock starts working.
  13. Ok my system is a I7 2600K @3.4GHz 16Gb of ram 64bit Windows 10 sandisk 480GB SSD for operating system Video card is AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series (I have 2 Screens and a TV hooked to it now) Mother board MSI P67A - GD80 (Has a button to automatically overclock) So i installed a game eve and when i went to play i heard a Fan go into super speed and sounded like it was going to explode. So i opened up the PC and the dust was out of control. So i took off the stock fan that came with the CPU and the video card. Took the case off the video card full of dust cleaned everything and reinstalled. While installing the video card i hit the power button and PC started to turn on. Reached around quick to the back and flipped the switch on the power supply. when i turned on the PC it would just constantly restart over and over. Come to find out If i turn off the overclocking button on the mother board it would start up fine? So currently it works but I do get window that pops up and is black like a dos window with some writing that i cant read cause it flashes to fast. My plan is to build new and use old parts for a kids PC. but i need to figure out what part is the problem. I am guessing the CPU is fine so either the video card or the motherboard is dead (hopefully the Motherboard).? Any ideas is greatly appreciated. BTW I have tried to do a complete reinstall of windows no help. and i ran a check of the ram and i was told it is working correctly.
