  1. GTA V likes vsync otherwise it's not smooth. You could also try disabling shader cache in Nvidia control panel.
  2. If you want to do the online mission stuff (apart from ones that require other players) just start a private match with yourself!
  3. Also don't use the Game works graphics stuff, it's resource intensive and not that impressive/necessary. Except enhanced rain, I like that.
  4. Expect low/med at 1080p30fps. It's an amazing game, one of the best I've ever played. Ran through it at 4K30fps and was not disappointed. Edit Don't use in-game FPS cap. It's broken. Just stick Vsync on and cap to 30 using RTSS.
  5. My XP gaming PC (32 bit) is more or less finished and it's lovely. I was wondering what essential software or tweaks to the system I should do, to get the best experience. I've already got the following software: RTSS (for solid frame times/limits) RadeonPro (Vsync, AA, AF) TweakUI Specs: CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 215 GPU: ATI Radeon X1900 XTX RAM: 2GB DDR3 (single stick, which I might upgrade later to a dual channel 4GB kit) I've done a couple of things to tweak performance but nothing major and just thought I'd ask folks in case I've not thought of something.
  6. Thanks @Jon Jon I used that video to do the thermal paste, it didn't cover the fan motor though
  7. Ok guys I figured it out. That tiny white disc in the last picture in the OP is a plastic washer. I gently removed it by pushing a thin blade underneath it's edge, and the fan blade just slid out, exposing the motor and where I need to clean etc.
  8. Hey guys I could use some help and haven't found anything on Google. I want to apply some new grease inside the fan motor on this GPU but I don't see any obvious ways to get to it. Take a look at the attached. Can anyone please advise?
  9. Digital Foundry have an analysis. A locked 1080p60 Ultra isn't possible with either a 1060, RX 580, 1070 or a Vega 56. RTX 2080 Ti can't manage 4k60 Ultra.
  10. Make sure you either use the Game mode (sometimes a display option like Vivid etc), or set the HDMI input on the TV to PC (sometimes called RGB). Otherwise you'll get bad input lag and those post-processing features that ruin image quality.
  11. 970 is a very capable card, great even for a budget 4K experience (High/30fps, more for older games, all game dependent) when overclocked. You'll struggle now with newer titles due to VRAM, especially with larger texture files. If you can upgrade now a 1070/2060 would be a good jump for Ultra/1080p60 gaming.
  12. Don't worry mate they're legit. Actually owned by IGN.
  13. Developers and publishers. They're about as legit as you can get. Why do you ask?
  14. I run Skyrim SE at 50hz on my 4K TV, but Skyrim doesn't care and runs at 60hz anyway. So to get the game to use that I set Windows to 50hz, open the game (which overrides and runs at 60hz), alt-tab to desktop and then back to the game and voilà! Skyrim at 50hz. You could try that method.
  15. I ran this game using an i5 8400 and an overclocked GTX 970 at 1440p with a mix of high and medium settings at a locked 30fps.
  16. Ok thinking about it I made the right call with the C2D E8600. I was XP right up to 7, so for my build its about right. Plus I still have a bunch of DDR2 RAM lying around.
  17. Hmm... maybe I shouldn't have cheated and instead gone for an AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 or something.
  18. Update: regarding the GPU I've taken the plunge and gone for a Radeon X1900 XTX 512 Mb. Late gen XP card.
  19. @campy great post mate, I was thinking an ATI card of the era... Edit - 4870 is too powerful for what I want. I've been cheeky on the CPU, but want to get a card from 2005/2006 era I think.
  20. I'm kind of interested in the E8600 now. Benchmarks really well. I can get one off eBay now for less than £10 + delivery. Should I jump in?
  21. Hey folks I'm planning a "retro" XP build, and while I haven't settled on whether I want to use components of the era, or low end modern gear yet (if anyone has any thoughts feel free to suggest), I can't decide which type of CPU to go for. Most XP era games, and even some later ones, really only need a fast single core CPU. However would I be shooting myself in the foot if I don't get a strong dual core one instead? I don't really plan on playing Crysis on this thing, probably only the following kind of titles: Strategy (AoE, Empire Earth, Civ) RPGs (Oblivion, KotoR) Far Cry / Doom 3 / Half Life 1 & 2
  22. Did any of you download those NoCD Cracks back in the day, because you couldn't be bothered putting the disc in every time you wanted to play the game? I did on a few games that I'd throw many hours into. Age of Empires, Elder Scrolls etc.
