FezBoy reacted to dizmo in Google Pixel 4a release pushed back again.
A couple of months won't change anything. People will still be interested, especially if it launches at the rumored pricing.
The 5a is still very, very far away; no one interested in the 4a is going to be like "oh, I guess I might as well wait another 9 months and get the 5a."
If they are, they weren't that interested to begin with.

The Pixel 5 is twice the price. It's in a different league.

That said, it is an odd move. It's almost like they don't want to hold an online only event.

Ok so I just did that tonight ... I was tired of waiting for my kailh speed copper to arrive and I went and underssed my redragon k552 to put the switches in the gmmk barebones.   So I'm now using it with the outemu blue and YMDK double shot pbt keycaps with o-rings.

So first impression.  The case is full aluminum top with plastic base.  It's kinda slim but quite sturdy.  There's a keycap puller included in the base of the keyboard and a keyswitch puller is included in the box as well as 2 keycaps (one orange escape key and one meant to replace some from the bottom row with the glorious logo), some stickers, cable, a 90 deg adapter for the cable and some replacement anti-slip feet.

So installing the switches was really easy and you just have to be careful to place them the right way so you don't bend a pin.  After that well install the keycaps and enjoy.  You don't have to install any software for basic use of the keyboard.  There's rgb lightning with 8 fixed color and rainbow mode with quite a nice amount of mode and lighting effect and 5 light steps from off to full.  The cable is a bit stiff but it doesn't bother me that much.

Typing on it feels really nice and the board doesn't move while typing.  Even tho those blue outemu are quite annoyingly loud I think they sounds a bit quieter in the gmmk than they were in their original home, the redragon k552, while using the same keycaps and o-rings I'm using now.

I can't wait to receive my kailh speed copper and try them out.  I also ordered some dsa profile keycaps cause I feel the oem profile is just a bit too high for my taste.

Well that's bout it for my first impressions.  In short if feels quite solid and I like to type on it.  It's the best feeling I had while typing with mechanical keyboard.  I still think that my old membrane keyboard is easier to type on probably cause of the lower weight of the keys and lower height of the keycaps.

Pixar actually didn't fully raytrace a movie until Monster's University: https://www.neogaf.com/threads/pixar-uses-real-raytracing-for-first-time-in-monsters-university.569821/
Up until then they used a variety of shortcuts to reduce render times.

Well, A. It's a demo. B. It's not a good idea to base what the future console will have because of what's available on 7 year old $400 hardware.

Which is exactly what I said. Though I don't know if it's realistically capable of bringing super high poly assets in at that kind of distance. And then logically, that draw distance changes with resolution. A single pixel on 1080p is far larger than a single pixel at 4k, so logically the draw distance on 4k should be 4x further. It seems more likely things will still pop in at a certain distance, but then just have smooth geometry transitions from there. It's hard to tell, because there's a definite possibility that doing things this way will in fact reduce the actual number of rendered polygons, so it could help push draw distance. Time will tell.

Anyways, as for my own curiosity and biases, UE4.25 has included first order ambisonic rendering and convoluted reverb, which is cool. I also finally got an explanation of what the difference is between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd order ambisonics. It's basically just directional resolution, with 1 being lowest and 3 being highest. They also explain the differences between ambisonics, VSS, and HRTF, which agrees with me in my personal vendetta against @an actual squirrel about what binaural audio is.
If the time stamp doesn't work correctly, go to 1:08:00 for the sound field/ambisonics intro that leads into the soundfield demo, and then explaining how it works and how it differs from VSS and can be used in conjunction with HRTF for binaural output.

It looks awesome and all, but i doubt it will look anything like that when it`s actually out on the ps5 ,it will look good, but not as good as that video.
I`ve seen plenty of trialers of gameplay footage running on a xboxox,ps4 pro to know that it won`t look like that lol

I wouldn't say better, just different.  Microsoft's engine is designed exclusively for flying over outdoor environments.  Its ability to pull data from the cloud is amazing, but it's highly limited in some ways.  You probably wouldn't use UE5 for a flight sim, but it looks to be outstanding for most anything on the ground.

There's still work to be done. The world may look more real, but the character still hasn't caught up to it: It looks like a plastic toy doll walking around the real world.

They talk about their cloth simulation system, yet they are only able to simulate a single simple thing with it. The flags, tarps, and clothes other than her scarf are static, even though at times there is a significant amount of wind noise.

The fluid simulation still isn't perfect, there is some non realistic behavior behind the characters legs when she's in the stream.

The light ball in her hand was nice, but lackluster in terms of effects around it.

And they didn't even attempt to do a hair simulation.
All of what I just said isn't to say that what they've done here isn't amazing, it's just to say that there is room for computationally expensive things to be done yet, all of which are candidates for GPU acceleration.

Additionally, modern GPU technologies, like Tensor, bring the possibility of NPC AIs that are driven by actual AIs.

Desktop graphics cards are leaps and bounds from what's in even the most modern consoles, and I'm sure that game developers will use them to great effect to augment the new capabilities of this engine system.

This, people, is why we don't want single port computers. Forget about the absolute clusterfuck if that single port gets damaged, you can't even turn it off and use any external devices at all.

I'll stick to my half inch thicker laptops with an array of ports thanks

Why even be in Shitafornia anyway? Higher taxes than Jamaica on 4/20, Government more stupid than some of the trolls on 4chan, and with weather that's too hot to boot. Just find a nice big ass field, claim it, declare it independent from the state, then file for statehood with the federal government. Then you can form your own - no bullshit - state government and profit.

you can run it on FAR lower end systems, like say a raspberry pi 0.
this is on an overclocked pi0, but it still drops frames in an n64 emulator. this is where you would notice a benefit from running the game natively.

My first interaction with a mechanical keyboard (outside of using them when I was younger and that was all there was) was a year ago when a coworker brought in one of his ‘old gaming keyboards’ to replace his at work. The first time I used it, I was in love. He quit not long after and took it with him. I tracked him down online recently and figured out switches it had (MX Brown)

Now, a year later, I am waiting for my first mechanical to come in today. I ordered a Durgod Taurus K320 with MX Brown switches. I am already looking into a second board.  The idea of a 60 or 65% is appealing. I want to get a demo set of switches to find what I may like more. I am leaning towards a Gloriois GMMK at the moment.

I feel like I have slipped down a very dangerous rabbit hole.
