If using Linux really *feels better* to you (as it does for me), you'll eventually find yourself buying a PC specifically to use it with Linux. And then you might make some other compromises, but none of them will be failing to use the hardware you have.

And there is also some hardware hat you won't be using to their full potential on Windows because it limits you in other ways. So for example, with storage devices, you can buy a single Optane disk to get some crude tiered storage, but you can't use an arbitrary RAID of NVMe drives for tiered storage like you can on Linux. Or, alternatively, you may not be able to get the same kind of balance between storage capacity and redundancy out of an array of disks as you can with RAID-Z. And you can't leverage the features of your flash storage which make them great devices to take snapshots on with Windows since it doesn't have any copy-on-write root filesystem options.

Your point is mostly a good one for people with existing hardware that they bought without consideration of Linux, though. ?

    1. Customization. Don't like your desktop? you can change it out for a completely different one. In the case of KDE from there you can customize it to the point that two people running KDE might look like they have two completely different DE's. Don't want to fiddle around with themes, animations, and the like? Gnome is a highly polished and simplified experience focused on ease of use and support for any form factor. (side note Windows 10 multiple desktop system is almost a direct rip from how Gnome does it). have a low end or old system that you want to run efficiently lightweight desktops like Mate, XFCE, and LXQT/LXDE can breath life into a
system that you want to run well over having shininess.

    2. CUSTOMIZATION (read: choices) don't like the backend that manages your system services? change it for a different one. don't like your audio management backend? change it for a different one! DON'T LIKE GNU????? you get the point... everything in your system can be replaced with something else. linux is a modular design everything can be replaced with something else if you really want to.

    3. KDE Connect. it's basically apple continuity except for Linux and Android. it lets you do nearly everything that continuity does except for phone calls ( but it will pause video playback on your pc when you get a call) and you aren't locked to using KDE as your desktop to use this software.

    4. gaming. it may not be as robust as windows but thanks to advancements from WINE DXVK and VALVE it's at least in a far better place than macs are. there are some rare cases where a game running in wine may actually perform better than it does on windows. this is especially true with much older titles as Wine is better equipped to handle them in some cases than windows compatibility mode.

    5. QEMU/LIBVIRT. love linux but still have some software or games that you absolutely need Windows or OSX to run? run them in a virtual machine. in many cases you will need to build your computer with this purpose in mind, but it is really rewarding to be able to run and actively switch between two Operating system on the same pc with no reboots. To my knowledge no other VM software comes close to QEMU for doing GPU passthrough. especially not for the low low price of free. speaking of...

    6. IT'S FREE. free as in speech and as in beer. yes there are distributions of linux that cost money in the corporate space but in the end user space it's basically all free to download and use. add to that, most of the software you use in linux is also free.

This is the JJanck, my JJ40, "like planck, " build.  (Yes, that is a quote from the KPRepublic site)

Switchwise, I am running mainly gateron browns, with a single blue that I stole from a switch test kit.

The caps are a sublimated DSA kit from PimpMyKeyboard.

I 3d printed the case and plate using my own design because the one from OLKB wasn't good enough.

    TODO:

Iterate the case design to use heat pressed inserts and standoffs instead of screwing directly into the plastic.

    Buy a proper metal plate.

Actually screw the plate into the case.

Paint the new case if I ever get around to actually designing and printing it.

Apple has a plant in Texas. I thought I heard that they were going to bring production of the Mac Pro to that plant.

That being said, the Mac Pro is DoA. AMD Killed it with their EPYC chips. Even the high end Xeon in the Mac Pro is garbo in comparison. In addition to that Navi has come out and all the work put into the Vega Pro II Duo seems to have been for nothing.

I second the GMMK. While they don't offer Cherry MX Blue, they off the top of my head offer Gateron Blue which is a clone of the Cherry MX Blue. The GMMK also comes with optional keycaps if you want an all-in-one solution.

What are you ranting about and how do tablets have anything even remotely in common with this device? No one ever stated or inferred that this phone was for mainstream use. If that’s your focus then by all means continue to bask in your walled ecosystem of ignorance. Not everyone is an apple tool that wants to do things the way apple forces you to and for good reason but I guess expecting you to comprehend that is asking too much. There’s a reason the Linux community often refers someone to read the documentation. It prevents statements like yours that clearly show a lack of understanding leading to hyperbole. Wanting privacy and full control over your possessions doesn’t make you a “FOSS-obsessed cultists” and it’s a sad state of affairs that corporations like your precious apple have motivated a team to step up and provide this themselves.

One thing you are correct about however is that it’s “only a phone”. It’s not a tracking beacon or spy tool to harvest data from under the guise of whatever excuse the company’s marketing team can come up with that month.

Does this device have issues? Certainly. But, it’s a first gen product not being financially backed by shareholders. I’m not sure what your expectations were but obviously very skewed if you think a device that hasn’t even released yet and has a completely different use case is going to be comparable to an 11th gen iphone for selfie takers.

    No.

Not selling, storing insecurely, or revealing my data is something I believe to be an unalienable right. If a company decides to do anything with my data, other than use it for the services I freely (or even pay) to use, then they should be punished very harshly by a governing body of peers who will determine on a case by case bases the correct course of action to take against an offending company, affiliates, and specifically involved employees. (pardon me, am abit drunk on cough syrup)

They don't know how much effort to get those service up and running, so they take it for granted. Nothing is free, even if you protect your privacy there always someone take benefit (like privacy company). So basically end users will always pay one way or another. And using VPN won't stop facebook / google mining your data.
