  1. Good on them for recycling this stuff instead of sending it to landfill. There are a lot of gamers who can't afford the latest and greatest.
  2. I don't think the CPU performance is a huge issue. The phone feels fast, I'm not waiting for stuff. I guess maybe if you are a hardcore phone gamer...
  3. Your storage device is not going to like being switched between computers randomly...
  4. Where does the energy come from?
  5. What is the idle power draw on those things? Come to that, what's the quiescent power draw of Linus' house?
  6. There is one huge flaw with this. Most business machines and an increasing number of consumer ones are encrypted. Bitlocker enabled by default. It can't decrypt those drives.
  7. Thanks. About the stability, I do wonder about potential issues in KiCad and Inkscape. Probably not the sort of thing that Intel are interested in fixing.
  8. My GPU is dying. It's an old 1 slot FirePro Radeon. I mostly do CAD (KiCad), vector graphics (Inkscape), and video encoding for archival (quality is important). Two 4k monitors. No modern gaming. Looking at an Intel ARC 380 6GB. I read that their video encoding is good quality and it should be okay for everything else. Cost around £135. Not looking to spend any more than that unless there is a very compelling reason to. Any other good options?
  9. Lenovo hobble the gaming machines with things like not fully supporting their docks, to force you to buy their workstations.
  10. I was looking at these kinds of machines. Maybe not the full battleship ones, just big enough for 2x NVMe drives, socketed RAM, and of course decent CPU performance. It might be more expensive than a desktop, but if I can have one machine instead of a desktop and laptop, I save overall.
  11. Speaking of batteries, the ability to run at maximum performance without one would be nice. No point heating that battery up while in desktop mode, it just wears it out.
  12. Actually one other thing they need - remote power button. There is no standard for USB or Thunderbolt power buttons like the ones on docks. I need a Thunderbolt dock with video, plenty of USB, and a power button. Then the laptop can go under the desk when not travelling.
  13. 4x Thunderbolt ports on the AMD one? 2x NVMe? Sold.
