  1. Your 1070 will be the bottleneck whether you go with 8700k or 3700X.. Which is what you want.. I really hope you decide on the 3700X.. I'm installing my new X570 now..
  2. Same thing with my X470 Crosshair VII.. @nick name linked me this https://www.overclock.net/forum/13-amd-general/1728878-ryzen-3000-memory-fabric-x370-x470-x570.html I haven't looked at it yet but I'm about to be home so I can play with it. I think we need a BIOS update, honestly.. I can use Ryzen Master to set the frequency to 3600mhz but once I touch the timings my PC crashes and I need to reset CMOS. I also read too work your way to to preferred frequency by increasing it 200mhz each time.. Memory training basically..
  3. If you want MSI get the MEG ACE or Pro Carbon. I went with Asus, personally.. But ya I agree about the 3700X, better value and better upgrade path, if it even matters..
  4. I think OP is talking about the B450 Pro Carbon, which is a tiny bit better than the Tomahawk and plain better than the Steel Legend.. I'm testing my 3700X and am having memory problems on my Crosshair VII.. The new X570 Hero will be here today!
  5. Here's a thought.. I added an NVMe for load times with large files and 32GB RAM (not sure if that's needed, if not then just delete one). 6. They're pretty similar.. The 3200c14 might be a little faster on paper due to the lower timings but either set should be able to run at the others specs.. They should overclock about the same. Ryzen generally benefits from higher RAM frequency, so that's more important than the timings.. Get high frequency and then lower the timings.. c17 is fine, and is better than 3200c16, it's a little cheaper and will perform great for general gaming/computing.. You don't really need B Die, it's not as valuable for regular users as it was with 1st and 2nd gen..
  7. For motherboard, get a decent X570 or high end X470 (depending on features you're interested in). I grabbed the X570 Crosshair VIII Hero myself as I think it's one of the better options out there, MSI, Gigabyte and Asrock also have solid choices when it comes to X570.. If you go X470, you need to pay closer attention because some boards are definitely better than others.. RAM, grab a nice 3600MHz kit. PSU.. I also wanted a quiet build and so I opted for the Seasonic Prime Ultra Titanium due to it's low noise level (fan doesn't even kick on in ECO mode). Corsair makes great quiet units as well, a simple RMx series PSU will do. Be quiet makes a few decent ones as well. Refer to the PSU tier list in my sig and get something from Tier B and up. For CPU fan, I like the Dark Rock Pro 4 or the Noctua NH-D15 for low noise level.
  8. Nah you're good.. If I was on a budget that's the board I would get.. But I would also consider just the 3600 as it's a great CPU on it's own and then maybe a higher tier motherboard.. But hey, if B450 has the features you need then you're all set!
  9. The Pro is better! If the pricing is the same don't even worry about the difference, just get the Pro lol.
  10. Sorry everyone is badgering you about Ryzen.. Especially when it seems your mind is already made up lol. Try to grab a Gigabyte Aorus board, this Aorus Pro is the same price as the Tomahawk, in the US (not sure about Norway), and should handle a good overclock on the 9700K.
  11. Just plug in as many CPU connectors you have available.. Can't hurt anything but you really shouldn't need it.. That's up to you.. For the M2 heatsink, just use the motherboards heatsinks only.. You shouldn't need the thin piece of metal.. My SX8200 Pro also came with one and I don't use it either..
  12. It's mostly due to lower voltage creating more thermal headroom.. The cooler the card, the higher it can clock..
  13. Crosshair VII Hero. Followed by Taichi and Gaming 7. Followed by Pro Carbon and Strix.
  14. Is don't order from there.. If it looks to good to be true it probably is! I grabbed the VIII Hero but even the Strix looks like a great option! X470 is also very capable.. I'm sure you could manage to fit the 2070s in there, I'm at work so I can't really play with it right now..
  15. I grabbed the VIII Hero last night! I think that's a solid option compared to the competition. I went back and forth between that and the MEG ACE and finally decided to grab the Hero. I had the VII Hero and its a great performer!
  16. Looks good to me and I think the 5700XT is a great choice! What motherboard are you considering?
  17. Now is a great time to build a Ryzen system! AMD promised to keep AM4 compatibility until 2020, possibly longer.. The time is almost up but at least it's a better value than Intel.. I recommend getting a high end X470 or decent X570 for the higher end skus. I just upgraded to the X570 Crosshair VIII Hero and Ryzen 3700X (8 core). That leaves me 2 BIG options for upgrades without needing AMD to release new processors.. The 3900X and 3950X are 12 and 16 core processors that work on AM4 and would be a healthy upgrade for anyone needing that much processing power over something like the 3700X. I think the 3700X will suit my needs quite well but at least I know there are bigger/better options if need be.. Intels current Z390 only goes as high as their 8 core 9900k.. I don't think there's been a better time in the last decade!
  18. You'll be fine. Definitely no reason to downgrade GPU. I would just grab the 3600 and try an overclock anyway, I don't think the X variant is worth $50+.. I use a Ryzen 2600 and Radeon VII without a problem at 1440p 144hz. The 3600 will be a better gaming CPU so just grab one of those ?
  19. I've already updated the BIOS on this same board for 3rd gen.. It should work just fine but may need some ironing out..
  20. There's nothing on Amazon in the US either except a couple motherboards. Kind of lame, honestly.. I should have purchased this morning from Newegg..
  21. X470 BIOS updates allow higher RAM frequencies than before. My Crosshair VII can go up to 4200MHz (I'm running 3533c15), according to the new BIOS.. I would just grab an X570, though, and not worry about anything lol. Unless you're really on a budget, in which case I would recommend the B450 Tomahawk or Pro Carbon.
  22. Right now I have a 2600 and play high refresh 1440p. 3rd gen will only improve upone this. You don't need an expensive X570 board.. I also believe there are problems with BIOS and drivers related to 3rd gen CPUs, I would give it a few days but either way, you can still get a great system with Ryzen for less..
