The last thing I can think of is to verify the usb. Checksum the download and re-dd. Also try changing the format on the usb, I can't remember offhand but maybe ntfs is what Win10 likes? I always use 1mb block size too however, have had some luck in the past by increasing that although I highly doubt that's the problem here. Okay, I looked everything over again and the only thing I don't see (besides the iso which I'll assume is clean) is a hardware list. I'd guess that windows wants to infect, ahem, install on every bit of hardware out there so I'm just stabbing in the dark. Have you checked the compatibility list?

Yes. Although without any specificity to your laptop its hard to advise specifically. So here is a general answer. Do some research first. You should verify the flavor of linux you're trying to install will actually work for you. Find your windows 10 key and save it somewhere for later use. Make a bootable win10 usb for later use. (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10) Install linux.

Just in case anyone comes across this thread needing the same question answered. 1. Right-click on desktop and choose "Display Settings". 2. Scroll down to "Multiple Displays" and choose your preferred option. 3. ???? 4. Profit.

Remember that this is actually a 1060M (M for Mobile?Micro?), not the same as a tower build; this is for laptops. I'm not sure if that matters or not ultimately although it's always worthwhile to work with accurate info

Thanks again for the feedback. I'll reconsider, re-evaluate and possibly rescind the change. I first read these statements right after you posted it and spent some time thinking it over. One of the points that came to mind is in regards to lifespan, upgrading, adding and replacing parts. If I were to put off the TI for a few years, lets say, and buy the 2080() now. Eventually I'll likely end up with the TI and even at the reduced price have ended up paying the same as if I'd bought it now. ((2080($800) + deflated TI($800) = same$ in the end($1600)))

Starting to really pick apart the build and have changed a few things; most notably the cpu and gpu. After doing a bit of digging I see no need for the 2080ti as it seems to be looking forward to the future of Raytracing, not really needed at this point compared to the cost. I'm even on the fence about moving this to the 1080ti as most reviews put the 'performance per dollar' higher than either of the 2080's. I've also been looking into the cpu and again it seems a better fit might be the i7-8700k. Comparing the i9-9900k to the i7-8700k the i9 gets about 0.3-0.5% increase in fps at 1440p+ although costs about twice as much. While budget ultimately isn't much of a concern to me, value is. And the difference of ~1% fps compared to the ~$1k doesn't seem to be validated. My primary monitor is a 144/1440, so no issues there. Eventually I do plan on upgrading both monitors to 4k, once the tech has stabilized a bit. After everything is said and done the budget for this build will likely be around 5k (monitors, external redundant drives, etc etc) however, I'm only focused on the case and everything inside at the moment

Just kinda plugged these items in to get the ball rolling and, over the next few days, I'll be digging into each of them a bit better. Honestly, I haven't read many of the product details on anything listed with much scrutiny yet.

Heh, you're answering all my questions before I even ask them! Wasn't sure, as I hadn't read through product details on everything yet, so I just added the network card. I agree on both counts regarding the optical drive. However, I was thinking I'd likely just put it on my shelf until that one in a million need comes up. I can't even remember when I used one last but better safe than sorry! Also I agree with your thoughts on ram however I think I will end up going with that size only for expansion possibilities. If I went with the cheaper route here it would take over all the slots and if I were to upgrade they'd just be tossed anyway -- playing for the long game here! Thanks for suggestions on Case too. I have little clue on which one I'll end up with although I'm pretty sure I want a big guy for this project. The power supply was a stab in the dark, the builder says I'm only using >500w but I'm sure that'll jump up, 850 sounds reasonable. I also agree with the sentiments on changing up the hard drive(s). Although I'll likely keep one of these and choose something cheaper and bigger for a slave. I'm also a bit curious about the Compatibility Issues -- <i>The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports. I still need to do a bit more reading and researching, nothing set in stone here. Just plugged a few things in to the system builder as a foundation moving forward. Here's where I'm at right now. Budget seems fine although we might end up a touch over the 3k mark, which matters only in relativity to how far over that mark we go! I have the same question. I've been a fan on LTT for a long time now and have been considering building a new rig, was it providence that "what cpu to buy" video was just released(a few days ago)?!! Admittedly, I'm more of a software kinda guy and know quite little about hardware. Budget isn't an issue here however, value is; up to about 3k is where I'm looking. Asking for help with a complete build; from the case to everything inside it. Geographically I'm in Washington state somewhere between Portland and Seattle. Currently my main games are Rust, Path of Exile, 7 Days to Die and the like -- prefer heavy RPG with a touch of pvp type games; Vanilla to Wrath and a 1 month tour of every WoW xpac. Additionally I'd prefer, although its not needed, to be able to dual boot Linux. If there's a hardware limitation just discard Linux considerations as I'm already considering making the old rig Linux Dedicated. For "high-end gaming" it was suggested i5-8600k or i7-9700k. Is the 9700 that much better? I don't mind taking my time to build this, where needed. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
