  1. Yup so the question applies to my AIO, it’s stationary, should the fans inside the case push or pull air through the rad. i also read there is quite a difference of opinion as to whether air should flow into or out of the case through the rad
  2. I know it can. That’s why I suggested it in my original post rather than the 9900k
  3. The software does not require 64 bit executables (it’s available in both 32 and 64 bit executable variants). And the memory footprint of each single thread simulation is <4gig therefore the 32 bit executables can be used. on current hardware, no simulation speed improvement is seen between 32 and 64 bit executables. The dual channel vs quad channel memory configurations, married with differences in IPC and max click speed between Intel and AMD make the decision tricky. hence my asking.
  4. I’ve read the 9900k can’t sustain 5Ghz across all cores, only 2 cores concurrently.
  5. The requirement is to run 8 concurrent single threaded jobs as quickly as possible. The EDA CAD Linux based software is not IO bound, but you are right, it’s a tough call if the memory bandwidth compared to a quad channel configuration would have an impact on simulation time. The assumption is that the 8 concurrent jobs are CPU thread bound. ultimately a hardware evaluation may be required. so dual channel memory 9900ks from intel (Or a quad channel device) Vs which quad channel device from AMD? note, cost is also a consideration, ultra expensive xeons are not on the table.
  6. I’m after some advice. Could somebody please suggest the fastest currently available single thread speed cpu. The cpu needs to have at least 8 cores to run 8x single thread EDA CAD simulations. overclocking is not an option. i’m thinking 9900ks (best IPC and max clock speed combination?) with the fully sustainable 5Ghz on all 8 cores, paired with the fastest memory that cpu supports. (Configured in dual channel). Am I missing something here? Is anything from AMD in the same ballpark?
  7. Simple question really, should a fan setup for an AIO be between the case and rad (pushing air through the rad) or mounted onto the rad (mounted to the case) pulling air through the rad. on a car, the fan on the rad pushes air through, should it be the same for an AIO in a pc?
  8. My son’s HP desktop has an Rx460 card which runs fine on Adrenalin 17.x drivers. As soon as we try to update to 18.x drivers we end up with only a black screen (but monitor reports signal output...... just it’s black) fans in the card aren’t spinning, and the system is now outputting display on the integrated gpu from the motherboard. We’ve tried removing the drivers with DDU and trying again, no joy. Rolling back to 17.x is fine. The pc has a woefully poor psu, and although the 460 doesn’t have a dedicated power connector, I’m speculating that the driver update may be making the card pull too much power out of the pci express slot. he has a 600w supply under the tree for Xmas? So I’m hoping this will solve the issues as I suspect he is hitting some old driver problems when trying to run forza 4 horizons. are these the sorts of symptoms people would expect from an “ under powered card”? ta in advance L
