Video is out on FP. Watching it right now. Terren speaks first so that's good. It'll take a few mins for me to go through but I'll be back with my thoughts.

pewnit reacted to WaggishOhio383 in How to Pin Games from Epic Games Launcher to Start
If you use the Epic Games Launcher, you may have noticed that it does not allow you to pin any of your games to start. And if you're like me, you like having access to all your games from your start menu, rather than cluttering up your desktop with shortcuts. Fortunately, there is a pretty easy workaround to this problem that will allow you to manually pin games from the Epic Games Launcher to your start menu. This tutorial will show you the step by step process of doing this. I've included images of each step inside spoilers in case the instructions are confusing.

First, you'll need to have a desktop shortcut made for the game. If you don't have one, open the Epic Games launcher and navigate to the library tab. Underneath the game cover art, and to the right of the title, you should see a little three dot icon. Click on this icon, and it should bring up a drop-down menu. From this menu, select "Create a Shortcut". You should do this for all the games you don't already have a desktop shortcut for.

Now that you have all the icons on your desktop, you can close out of the Epic Games Launcher. For the next step, you'll need to press Windows + R. This should bring up a small window titled "Run". In this window, type or copy in "shell:start menu", then select "OK". If done correctly, a file explorer window should now appear titled "Start Menu".

Now that you have that folder open, simply drag the shortcuts from your desktop into the file explorer window, and you're done!

One last thing to note is that after doing this, the games may not appear in your start menu immediately. Sometimes they will show up after a few minutes. However, if you want to speed up the process, restarting your computer will make them appear. Another thing you should know is that if you uninstall the games, the start menu shortcuts won't go away on their own. You will have to go back into the start menu folder using the "shell:start menu" command, and delete the shortcuts yourself. Again, you may have to restart your computer for the icon to disappear from the start menu.

Hopefully, this tutorial helped you, and if you have any suggestions to improve it please let me know!

I am sitting 7.5 hands away from my 6 hands monitor.

I had a friend in HS. His dad had lots of money. He invited me over to his house, since his parents weren't in town, and told me to bring my gaming controllers.

I arrive, he opens the door, and there's a life size Mario over his shoulder... His dad had just purchased a 72" plasma TV, and my friend had his Game Cube hooked up to it... I think we sat around a foot away from that sucker while we played games.

Many many years ago my ex decided to go TV shopping. She had one of those ancient 12 inch CRT travel TV's with the built-in VHS sitting maybe 8-10 feet across from her sofa. This was right before flat screen plasmas were the rage and stores were dumping their CRT stock. One day her roommate came home with one of those small fold up travel binoculars that old people use. He threw it over to me and said "Try these bro". Watching the small TV through the binoculars I said "Wow this is like 64 inch wide screen"

So just like VR you can strap binoculars to your head and get big screen enjoyment from your laptop sitting across the room LOL

The issue here is that I know for a fact that Apple doesn't treat all developers the same. I have a friend whose app was not allowed for any updates because it had references to the coronavirus.

The "reference" they are talking about here is a situation that has been in his game since 2016 (iirc) and it says that there's a global virus outbreak. What do you do?

Apple has been screwing over developers for years because they know that they're the only ones that sell to iOS users.

Yeah, that's probably the best for most people on this forum. Most people however, don't seem to care and just want something to kill time with while they're getting their Starbucks or for their kids to play on the family iPad.

Google there are other methods, and the SDK is still open to Epic...actually Epic could even make their own App Store if they wished on Android, which is the big difference.

Epic likely knew this was coming when they tried challenging Apple.  It's not like it's a secret amoungst developers of how Apple would have reacted.

The fact that you have other companies joining though, that part wasn't "well-organized".  Once Epic challenged Apple publicly, the other companies just joined in as some of them as well have had  similar fights or grievances with Apple.  Some of them, I am sure, likely already had a plan in place if Apple decided to impose even tougher restrictions (remember the 30% was just the tip of the iceberg...originally Apple wanted to force the pricing to be the same across other platforms).

With so many big players jumping into support Epic this is going to strike a huge blow to Apple. Look don't get me wrong Epic is scum however the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Apple needs to be put in their place especially when it comes to handing out lawsuits. They can't keep acting like the good guys when trying to sue random small companies for having the letter i in their name or named after a fruit.

I find it strange how countries can somehow dictate how a company does business with their own products.
Like how they dislike Google for having a monopoly on searches... Even though there's plenty of competitors... they just suck. It's not Google's fault if Yahoo, Bing and whichever craptastic search engine out there suck donkey balls compared to Google Search. They aren't forcing anyone to use their search platform either... It's not even the default search engine of most browsers these days (other than chrome).

To me, this is just more government overreach, trying to get something out of Google because they don't even want to try and compete.

Honestly, i've never gone to google.com.au, always google.com, then again it probably gets forwarded to /au or .au. Even so, it just comes up at the bottom saying "Australia". I don't see a clear difference between the two anyway...

New Laws in Australia have forced Google to change the way Google and YouTube work, including the possibility of handing user data over to big news businesses.

    My thoughts
Google has gone out and highlighted the terms "search", "at risk", and "hurting" which shows how Google, and the I personally feel about this. This will have a massive negative impact on how the government, and other organisations can control what we consume and have access to.

Phil Spencer announced on twitter that Microsoft is filing a statement supporting Epic's request to keep access to Apple SDK for Unreal engine. Losing this would mean that games/apps that use Unreal Engine would not be allowed on the App Store.

    My thoughts
In my opinion it is a huge loss for gamers/developers if Epic loses this fight. Although Unreal Engine is not known for their mobile games it is making big advancements in the field allowing for more developers to develop games for the market using their platform. Losing such a large market will just discourage developers from using Unreal in their projects... A couple of Microsoft mobile games are already running on UE so makes sense that they would join in.
