A broke AF high school student from India, whose loneliness has given rise to a passion for computing, though I have just started to scratch the surface when it comes to being very knowledgeable, and am a noob compared to the Gods out here, I still wanna be like these Gods one day. I repair, build, troubleshoot systems, build systems for ppl, do easy Arduino projects, I develop poor, but "gets the work done"apps and websites for charity. Been a massive LMG fan. 1. I have an Asus 14 inch notebook - Vivobook 14 M409DA. It's two months old. It has a Ryzen 3250u (2nd gen, Zen+) (2.6~3.5GHz 2c4t) (TDP 15W) with an integrated vega 3 After a video conference for one hour, the CPU is under 11-16% usage maintaining ~1.4GHz , fluctuating. and the iGpu is at 4-10% usage. THE CPU AND GPU MAINTAIN 50°c CONSTANTLY Are these temps OK? The ambient temperature here is pretty warm...coz india. Also, the laptop has a macbook air 2020 like heat pipe-less cooling design. At idle...it's at around 39-42°c with the cpu at 1-3%...and the gpu at 0-1% use. The chassis never feels warm tho. It also remains dead silent. Should I be concerned about the temperatures? If these are high, are they high enough to reduce longevity for my system?
  2. I have an asus vivobook 14 M409DA....it's a month old...Ryzen 3 3250u (2c,4t @2.6-3.5Ghz)(integrated vega 3 iGpu) The laptop has his weird cooling design.. similiar to the 2020 macbook air...where there are no heat pipes..there is a tiny heatsink on the cpu, over which the fan blows air...and exhausts it from the other side. Due to this the thing gets hot...idles at 45°c. What I mostly do on it is attending google meet classes....during those, when charging it is 60-65°c and when full charged/on battery 55-60°c....these temps are sustained for hours...though it drops two or three degrees over time...there are one second spikes to 70+ when I open some program like word.. Cpu usage during a class is ~11% with the iGpu at ~3% Under load it gets around 80, might see higher spikes but never cracks 90 It never feels hot tho. Will these temps damage or reduce the longevity of my system? I need to use this device for a looong time. So it will suck if it dies soon. What should I do about it? I can't change the thermal paste coz that voids the warranty and there are no fan controls, third party fan software doesn't work either. It is kinda unusual for such a low tdp (15w) chip to have these temps. A frnd of mine has an acer aspire 3 with a lower clocked, but similiar intel chip, 4417 u, but with a sane heat pipe equipped cooling system, and he barely sees temps over 45 in meetings.. I'm even more concerned about the reduced longevity, coz after hitting the heatsink, the hot air travels over a part of the logic board...that part doesn't have any chips..but has a lot of smd resistors and capacitors...so am worried it can damage the logic board too. This is giving me a lotta stress, any help will be appreciated.
  3. Friend owns an Acer "Aspire 3 A315 53 (Pentium 4417u/4GB soldered + 4GB SODIMM DDR4/SSD+HDD). It’s a year old. Suddenly shut down today morning, following a few seconds of rattling/buzzing noise from the speakers. Not sure if it showed BSOD, he had gone away for a moment. However, the sound was present even when the screen had turned black. This was followed by a complete shutdown. He had Ms-word, browser and Spotify on. No connected devices. Running on stable AC at ~60%. It felt mildly warm. The device is often used for these activities, besides video conferences, streaming and occasional gaming. Won’t turn on. Static black screen. Display backlight turns on for a few seconds before turning off. Fans don’t spin on pressing power (they never did and started spinning after some time when things heated up.) The HDD is spinning, the vibrations can be felt. Blue Power LED flashes once and stays solid for 5 seconds or so, then flashes again(loop). Charging LED turns on as usual when plugged in. He tried hard resetting by pressing the button down for 10s, did not work. External display won’t work either. Have not removed the battery yet (it’s pretty hard to, here.)he did not notice any symptoms of a short or burn on the MOBO. He tried removing and reseating the removable stick of ram. Did not work either way. Requesting help troubleshooting. Thanks in advance!
  4. Hi. I have an asus laptop with an SSD boot drive and a mass storage hard drive. I bought this cooling pad/laptop incliner for it. The fans spinning cause mild vibration. Can this vibration damage my hard drive? The device has this blue rubber brace around the drive to safeguard it from vibration...but still curious.. Will it damage the drive?
  5. Thank you so much sir/Ma'am , for the help. I used diskpart right now..and you were right, and there is this inaccessible 200mb fat32 partition. Grub that's where grub is .. And as u said...there is not gonna be much problem if I install windows on the new drive, so I'm doing that ig...
  6. Apologies for being a complete noob. Guys, all i wanna do is get windows running on the SSD, as linux makes the touchpad crappy(tried a lot of things...doesn't help.). So... Will the grub cause a problem? If I freshly install windows on the SSD, will I be able to boot without the grub coming in the way? In that case can I just leave the ubuntu Boot partition?will it cause a problem?
  7. Anyway to do it without a live media? I have one flash drive only, and I wanted to test if installing windows on the SSD works....so removed the live media and it's now installing windows...
  8. My asus laptop has a hdd with three partitions one of which has windows And a blank new SSD. I installed linux mint on the ssd for a while. It booted with grub. but due to poor touchpads support I wanted to uninstall it. I booted into a live linux usb and formatted the SSD. Did the same from windows and formatted the SSD to NTFS..it now shows up as a blank 111gb drive, as it was unused. However, the in the boot menu, ubuntu still shows up and opens up grub when selected....I tried deleting the boot partition from bios, it didn't work. No wifi files anywhere ... What do I do? I want to completely clear the SSD and remove the grub..
  9. I use an asus vivobook 14 Got new m.2 SSD Installed it...but but BIOS won't recognise it..so booted into windows on hdd and, after installing gpt on it..it is recognised... I tried installing linux from a flash drive...it is still recognised... But bios only recognises one drive.. windows boot manager.. So if i install linux on the SSD...will it be recognised?
  10. Not sure but..ig that's not bad...it keeps loading assets from the hdd right? Try defrag tho..run multiple tests, maybe windows was installing a n update, that would make the disk activity shoot up..or maybe the disk is not in its greatest health anymore.
  11. Try stuff like minitool, I used it..it's free..u can migrate OS or straight up clone the disk/partition....just make sure the hdd is defragged, idk y..it causes probs otherwise.
  12. I have a perpetually hot asus, Ryzen laptop, and was thinking of running ubuntu mate on it. Does linux, being lighter than Windows, help lower temps? Is there a significant difference in perf. Between ubuntu mate and mint mate? Do I get the precision trackpad features of windows like gestures on linux? Especially the switch workspaces thing. Will my fingerprint reader unlock work on it? I am very new to the linux environment. Kindly help.
  13. Like Intel chips, do Ryzen mobile chips also have throttle and shutdown failsafes to prevent damage from overheating?
  14. I just bought a new ASUS VivoBook M409DA , with a Ryzen 3 3250u APU. The laptop has a crappy cooling design, resembling the Macbook air 2020, the fan just blows over the tiny heatsink over the CPU, with no heatpipes. It run HOT all the time, and for some reason the fans just wont ramp up when needed. So i need to manually speed 'em up. The trouble is. . . .. .I can't. HWiNFO Speedfan Argus Afterburner Open hardware monitor Notebook FanControl Tried all of them, ALL OF THEM FAILED. some of them couldn't even detect a fan controller(they didn't show the option to change speed). No BIOS or Driver options exist. the same for the asus control panel What do i do? I really need to change the speed. I will eventually run Linux, so am rooting for the lm-sensors/fancontrol there.....but i think it might fail too... WHAT DO I DO??
