  1. Hey I think you are right! See my latest post for what (I think) actually happened!
  2. I have some idea about what's happening now, because my symptoms are so similar to the New World 3090 issue. It was mainly EVGA then Gigabyte later. Here is the matching symptoms: - playing a game, suddenly black screens and fan turn to max. - when I turn it back on, the card gets burned. Similarities: - Both 3090 and my 3080ti are high power draw cards - happening in-game - exactly the same symptoms So what I think is happening behind the curtain: - was playing divinity original sin 2, guess some how the engine managed to draw way more power than it is supposed to, like how New World did. This power spike triggered over-current protection which turned the screen black and fans to max. I vaguely remember this is only a one time protection. So when I turn the system back on, no more protection and the card is burned. I have contacted the retailer and I think I will get a replacement or if I can I will try to refund. If I get 30 series card again I will set power draw to 90%, limit FPS, and turn off any overclocks. I would recommend JaysTwoCents' video on this topic, as he did an amazing job explaining.
  3. The smell is definitely from the GPU. I live in the UK which isn't particularly humid. I'll try to test my GPU in other systems, if I can find any.
  4. I am slightly hesitant to borrow another GPU to try... CPU heatsink is fine, I knocked it slightly. I smell burnt plastic smell in the GPU air vent.
  5. Sorry didn't answer fully. Bought it 2 years and 2 months ago, new, I packaged it very well in original packaging (anti static bag, and foams etc). Not using any adapters. Just wondering how it suddenly died 2 days after moving. And the fact that it worked flawlessly for 2 days and just suddenly died.
  6. My friends suspicion is that a power surge killed it. It died during games. And 750W for 3080ti is somewhat sus.
  7. PSU is MSI A750GF, I copied someone else's build list. I was talking to friends and we think the most plausible cause was because 3080ti power surge. I know people have said these GPUs need at least 850W PSUs but I didn't know at the time. GPU is from Gigabyte, still got 1 year warranty left but need to send it back to retailer (in China), which is a pain. Could using the wrong power cable cause this? I might have used a monitor power cable for this but I am 99% sure I didn't.
  8. Original post: I have recently moved house, and I took out the GPU for moving. I was installing the GPU again at the new house, and everything was fine. Then I noticed the white motherboard light was on. I didn't worry too much since everything is working fine. Then two days later, just now, the PC suddenly stopped displaying anything and the fan was spinning on max speed. I shut down the PC and tried to turn it on again but no display. I tried reinstalling the GPU several times and still no display + white light. I also noticed that during the short time I turned on the PC, the GPU heats up really quickly, but the fans are working fine. Since then I noticed a faint plastic smell, I wasn't sure if it's there beforehand. I power it on carefully once more and sniffed the wind, the burned plastic smell is unmistakable. Now the big question is HOW did that happen? What could cause a card to die like that? Need to figure this out before I'm comfortable putting another GPU into this....

  10. Hey guys, I bought the Alienware AW3423DW about 4 days ago, since then I have noticed a dead pixel somewhere near the centre of the screen - the green pixel won't light up. I have the option of returning it (without paying the postage) and just buy another one. I wonder how likely that a monitor will have 1 or more dead pixels? If most of the monitors have 1 or more dead pixels, then I just won't bother. Thanks guys
  11. Oh and the power button no longer turns the machine off when that VGA LED is on, I have to use the power supply to turn it off. It goes like this: I press the power button, machine turns on, LED check thru CPU, DRAM, then VRA and boot, VRA stays on. Press the power button on case and nothing happens.
  12. Hi people, So I just got my 3080ti, and just built my PC with this spec: R7 5800x Gigabyte Eagle 3080ti Asus TUF gaming B550M-plus (wifi) MSI A750GF power supply Phanteks P500A Crucial Ballistix 8Gx2 DDR4 3600 And a NVME SSD from my laptop I have updated the BIOS with USB stick and it worked (the booting LED went off after). Now the white LED (VGA LED) stays on after booting and I don't see a BIOS. I have checked all power cables and they are fine. I don't have a second machine to test with. What could the problem be? Thanks guys! Leo
  13. I would be able to do this with my flatmates laptop and a USB stick right? (An old gaming laptop with Intel CPU) oh btw do I need to empty the USB drive like when you install a system?
  14. I used a 8 pin cable which says CPU on it and a 6+2 which says PCIe
