I need a laptop for mechanical engineering. My school is recommending a 2000$ dell precision: Precision 5560 - 11th Generation Intel Core i7-11800H - 16 GB Memory (RAM) - 512 GB Solid State Drive (SSD) - 1920x1200 Display - Nvidia Quadro T1200 Graphics - Windows 10 Pro I will need to run programs such as solid works so I know I need a windows laptop. I’d like good battery life and for it to be portable. 14-15 inch is good. If possible I dont really want a laptop which looks like a “gaming laptop” with all the RGB and stuff. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on what I can use. Do I really need a laptop with a Quadro GPU or can I get away with something such as the acer swift X? Thanks for any help

Motherboard: Asrock extreme3 gen3 CPU: i5-2500k Ram: corsair vengeance 1 8gb stick I have a gtx 1050ti which works with the motherboard. I also have a really old amd graphics card that also works in this computer which I pulled from a dell XPS 420. My IGPU used to work but I have been using dedicated graphics and now I cant get my IGPU to work. The rig shows an error message on the little LED display when I try to boot with IGPU. Does anyone know how to fix this so that I can use this rig with IGPU.

Running things like word on one monitor does not use lots of system resources.

Yes it is and with the lower prices for ddr3 it would be a good idea.

Your cpu can not keep up with that graphics card. You can check to see if your laptop is overheating and Mabey try replacing thermal paste or adding a cooling mat and fans.

You should try to make shure that both of your ram sticks are working. Also check to see if there are any blackened or charred contacts on your ram.

You should replace the psu, upgrade the power supply and the ram. Also overclocking can help you. A hyper212 evo could be a good cpu cooler upgrade if you are not hardcore overclocking this cpu. If your bios has overclocking profiles then you can easily overclock or just look up videos of others overclocking on your motherboard.

If you are just playing games you might not even need the 16gb ram. Your gpu should be fine too, you should just upgrade to a Xeon, just make shure that your bios is up do date.

I would get the 2600k build if you are using your current GPU. I would definitely avoid the 4790k build as for 50$ more you are getting much more in the 4960x and the ram and the motherboard. If you get the top tier model you can even sell some of the ram and replace the cpu with a Xeon and get back some money.

Have you checked your cpu, Gpu, and ram usage to see if there is somehow somewhere a bottleneck or problem?

If it posts at all, the cpu should be fine

A used Rx 470 4gb, or 8gb would probably be great for you. If you are not editing videos, you might not even need something this powerful.

Your setup is fine for watching videos at the resolution of your monitor or higher. If you plan to play games your graphics card will bottleneck your cpu and you will not be able to play at the native resolution of your monitor at 60hz in most games.

I just changed this and I installed a new cmos battery. Now my motherboard wont turn on. It gives me error messages but there is no video output. I think its bricked but im not shure IMG_1652.mov

If you plan to uppgrade the ram in the future you should probably get 8gb single chanell but if you are fine with 8gb you might as well use dual channel. Also if you want a cheep build you might want to consitter buying used parts and getting way better preformance with the money you spend but this is sometimes more complicated.

Im installing macos onto a z68 extreme3 zen3 motherboard with one 8gb stick on corsair vengence ddr3 ram and an i5 2500k. I am able to get into the macos installer but my internal harddrives do not show up. I can see them in Bios but they do not show up in the installer so I can not do the install. Does anyone know how to fix this? (I have tried erasing the drive, reformating it to mac os extended journaled, and puting the sataharddrive onto an external sata to usb where it shows up but will not install onto because its an external drive)

Im open to any suggestions for the ssd or anything

I was wondering if anyone here has tried out the lenovo x390. Im looking at the model with the i5, 16gb ram, fingerprint sencer and ir senser camera. I hope to attach it to my 4k monitor via thunderbolt and was wondering how the intigrated graphics can handel this. I know that the thunderbolt port is x2 but I was wondering if anyone has used an egpu with it. Also if anyone knows how good the thermals are on the x390, that would be great to know.

I was wondering if anyone has used a seagate firecuda for running VMs and how well it works. I am only looking to run like 2 VMs but I would like decent loading speeds on them and their harddrives. I am looking to run ubuntu server and possibly macos.

The 7700k is still very new and relevent.
