  1. due to a shitty mobo design, inserting a GPU damaged one of my audio cables for the front panel. its not the end of the world because I can use the mobo ports instead, but it would be nice if I was able to use the front panel mic port by repairing the cable. I have 2 spare cases I can take parts from if that will help me at all. if anyone has any idea how i should go about this id appreciate the help.
  2. yup, I knew It might cause driver issues to go from intel to amd so completely new install
  3. im using the motherboard ports. I know its not my mic because 1: it was working perfectly before. 2: I get two different results using different ports on the new board. as for noise removal, ive tried to turn off every noise altering setting I can. and also bosted the mic as high as it will go in windows.
  4. I don't have blue yeti unfortunately.
  5. I recently changed my mobo and cpu. now if I plug my mic in the front audio jack it picks up my voice as a deafening buzzing mess. if I plug it in the rear panel its super quiet. my old mobo used Realtek audio and I had a bunch of settings in there I can change, but on this one I cant find any software like that. new mobo is X370 gaming pro carbon. any help would be appreciated.
  6. lol, not nightmares. just an annoyance. thanks for the link
  7. don't understand why they're there cos I have never seen any oem partitions on other drives at all, let alone this many. and one in particular is fairly large. id rather have that space for files. as for boot data and recovery, I already have an image back up drive so no need for data recovery on the drive. as for the boot data...this drive has no OS on it so why does it need boot data?
  8. ok thanks, good to know they wont have an effect. could you please tell me what they are for if they arnt just junk?
  9. I just formatted a 1TB hard drive but it still has a bunch of OEM partitions on it. " 260mb healthy (efi system partition) /// 899.67gb /// winre_drv 1000mb ntfs healthy (oem partition) /// Lenovo_part 30gb ntfs healthy (oem partition) /// 500mb healthy (oem partion). " why is there so much OEM crap on here and will this affect me trying to use this drive to install windows on in a new PC, or restoring an image back up on to?
  10. it might be a UK thing, im not sure. quite a few people around here call it that, infact its more common than calling it a USB stick.
  11. what on earth...so somehow...my parents who know nothing about pcs have managed to partion a memory stick. why would you even do that?!...fml… thanks for the help spotty.
  12. so I need to make a new windows boot thingy. I grabbed a random mem stick I had lying around. when I plug it in my pc shows TWO new drives being recognised. REMOVABLE (D:) and REMOVABLE (H:) if I unplug the usb, both disappear. plug it back in, they both reappear again. what the fuck is going on? ive never seen anything like this before. I need to wipe this thing to use to set up windows but this had just thrown me off completely.
  13. that's great. thanks a lot for all the tips and suggestions
  14. this is what I looked at before, it was on sale and just went up a bit in price. https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-ProLiant-DL380-G7-CTO-2x-Xeon-Quad-Hex-Core-Rack-Server-2U-583914-B21/172659529482?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=471462081912&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 bare in mind that for my purposes, even 16gb of ram is overkill for most tasks.
  15. ooof. considering I could get something half the cost that would have the same power for what I need that seems kind steep. ? if it was just £20 more for some slightly better power efficiency then id do that. but for 2x the cost I cant really justify it.
  16. I think overall power shouldn't be too much of an issue because they wont be on a lot of the time. and noise isn't too bad either. main priority is high performance at low cost. I would happily pay a little extra though for lower power consumption
  17. problem is my main rig is now full of GPUs. I even modded cards so that I could fit more in. so to use GPUs id have to build a new PC anyway. so id be looking at: mobo £70, psu, £50, cpu £100, ram £120, HDD £30. case £40 and now im already at £290 before even buying a mid range GPU. so CPUs are the way to go. + they can be used for more things. like I can off load physics sims onto it and stuff.
  18. I might be able to use another room...im not sure. as for program: blender can use GPU and CPU.
  19. dosnt look too bad, but no ram or HDD/SSD included so that's gonna add even more to the cost. I think overall I have more options and better prices from buying a server.
  20. mainly cos it seems easier to get: 1. ones you can customise to what you need. 2. because there seem to be more that have 2x CPUs
  21. ok...so a couple of things im thinking of. this server would not be in a rack. so could I take the top off, unplug the fans. then run fans off of molex form my main rig to aid cool the CPUs instead? they may be weaker, but theyd have the advantage that the case was open and therefore the heat could escape more easily. my main concern with this is that ive heard some servers will refuse to boot if things are unplugged/damaged. a more extreme option would be to replace the stock heatsinks with a beefier cooler. that way even a regular fan could do the job.
  22. what makes them a pain exactly? I know these things need to keep cool, but I wouldn't be ditching the fans, just replacing.
  23. yea, ive seen some servers in videos when i was researching. as far as noise goes I was thinking of buying replacement fans but im not sure if id run into compatibility issues. and the program im planning to use to transfer the files does it over wifi. as an example one of my typical files for 3D is about 50mb. but the plugin ill be using sends it in advance so its ready when I need it, so speed shouldn't be a big deal unless its really stupid slow.
