If you are talking about general content, thats more about videos and sponsor spots being shot at different times and sponsor agreements being active at different times. So editor and marketing team decide which sponsor will be on the video at any time. This is classic way of doing things, and LTT is hardly any channel doing it.

This is not how sponsors for LMG work. LMG doesn't sponsor almost anything, they rely on sponsors to operate themselves. I'm sure if any local company that has consumer, prosumer or even small business tech and contact them for sponsor spot, it would be evaluated equally to big, global names.

I got fired for trying to get them to fix their absolutely horrendous cybersecurity (such as "press F12 to view last 4 of SSN of any repair techin the nation pastor present employed", "change 1 number to give yourself complete system admin privlidges", ACE, etc).  Stay far, far away.

@Steve Chan PM me for proof if interested, happy to help however possible (including call recordings).

chairitable reacted to Virixiss in Thoughts on Asurion
    Please do not.

I worked for Asurion both directly as a mobile repair technician doing warranty work, and as a repair tech for UBreakIFix, which I worked for during the Asurion buyout. Asurion calls their service warranty. It's not, it's very bad insurance. Repairs and replacements require deductibles, their service is full of weasel clauses to avoid paying out to their customers, and horrendous business practices are pushed on employees in order to sell the service to customers who do not want it. Some of the examples that steam my buns thinking back on the experience:
Scheduling customer appointments when they can clearly see that a needed part is not in inventory, then throwing techs under the bus when a customer is kicked back to them. HEAVILY pushing their new "Home Plus" plan, to the point where employees had negative reflections on their reviews if they were unable to sell plans. We were actually encouraged to sell the plan without the customer's knowledge just to keep Asurion happy with the sign-up rates, doing shit like selling them a phone case, but actually signing them up for Home Plus instead, since the cost was the same to the customer at point-of-sale. Send customers to our stores with devices that were going to be automatically rejected by Asurion, despite the customers telling Asurion that some kind of out-of-scope repair was needed. (Broken back glass on iPhones was a common reason to turn customers away, as an example.) They sell their plans with the idea that almost everything electronic in your home is covered, but have a nasty reputation for rejecting almost everything that you can claim. Laptop need a replacement battery? That's normal wear-and-tear and is not covered. Smart thermostat fried due to a power surge? Sorry, that's a problem for your electric company to fix, and not covered under the plan. I have watched 2 Asurion reps actually argue with each other about how their Home Plus service actually works, and almost every rep from their call center has a different idea of how the service works, which means your device may or may not be covered depending on who picks up the phone that day. After quitting the company, I decided to open a small repair shop on my own with my personal tools and knowledge, only to get called by Asurion lawyers under an apparent non-compete clause that I could not find evidence for. But I couldn't afford a legal fight, so my business failed just after starting. (I include this to be transparent with you that I am not completely unbiased, but I did leave the company before deciding to try to start the business.) Basically, Asurion purchased uBreakiFix as a front for their repair services. Instead of expanding their repair capabilities, they swiveled HARD into pushing for their warranty service and began firing employees and closing stores downsizing when sign-up quotas were not met. Their entire business model is to sell an "extended warranty" to as many people as possible, then weasel out of their responsibilities as often as possible to keep their pockets full.

This is not a company that LMG should associate with, in my opinion.

Went to the website. First thing I see is a fake limited time special offer countdown. Closing the page and opening it again in incognito mode resets the countdown to 20 minutes. Go through to the order page and it's showing the same fake limited time offer countdown but now it's counting down in deciseconds (seriously?)
When the countdown reaches 0 it simply removes the "Deal ends in" countdown element from the page but the same offer still shows.

These fake countdowns are used to trick prospective customers in to a false sense of urgency to push people to purchase on impulse without properly considering what they're subscribing to. If you need to rush customers to sign up before they think about it for a few minutes then it's probably a bad deal. I know LMG has taken issues with sponsors misleading customers with these fake countdowns in the past (cough Nord cough).

Using misleading pressure sales tactics along with the complaints about how difficult it is to cancel the subscription are pretty big red flags for me and gives me the impression that they're probably a pretty scummy company that I wouldn't buy from.

That doesn't address most of my comment. I'm not someone who's against AI and I've used ChatGPT to make my own automations before. But there's a very fine line between use and abuse when it comes to this technology and nothing about their website indicates the former. Even just looking at their blog posts they don't seem to be an upstanding company.

Their website reads like a NFT/blockchain pitch without the NFT/blockchain part and I think it's clear they're cutting a lot of corners with their company. Maybe in 18 months if they've built a track record and have shown that they won't abuse or encourage others to abuse AI then it'd be appropriate to have them as a sponsor. But right now with the lack of regulations and the attitudes shown from tech startups in emerging industries over the past 4 decades it just doesn't seem like a good idea to promote a company like Magical with very little track record.

SorryBella mentioned IFTTT and if you look at their website that's the perfect example of what you want to see. https://ifttt.com/

When you land on Magical's page the first thing you see is "4.6 stars 3,200+ reviews" and a big shiny almost 5 stars alongside a heavily exaggerated slogan of "Make tasks disappear. Like magic." followed by heavy emphasis on using AI with their product. Then you have a heavy emphasis on testimony as you scroll down the page including large claims. Replace AI with VPN and their website would look right at home. Or any other industry known for similar marketing techniques. Compare that with IFTTT's website. They start with a really sensible straight to the point statement "Automation for business and home" followed with "Save time and get more done". They're not trying to use AI as a sales term they're using their actual product to sell you. It doesn't matter to the end user how it works what matters is what it does and IFTTT nail this perfectly. They use AI not as a marketing term to sell you something but as an explanation for how some of their products work. Their website focuses on what their products provide not how they work and that theme is overarching throughout the whole website. Magical has a heavy focus on "AI" and how their product works instead of focusing on what it does. This SCREAMS "blockchain". We've literally just come out of a craze where people were promising "blockchain" as some new technology and advertised it in the exact same way Magical is now.

Now Magical might not be following the same footsteps as the companies touting blockchain as a solution were but if that's the case they shouldn't have copied the same marketing techniques. When you copy the same techniques as scammers for your website you should expect to be treated like one. I just don't see how a company with ethics or good judgement could end up with the website they have. I'm still quite convinced they've used AI to produce a lot of the content on their website. It reads like it was lifted straight from a ChatGPT scam page.

Did what I could.  Thankfully things kept running while I was gone, and some preloading helped early on when I couldn't really run much with people sleeping next to things.  I *THINK* I should hit my goal of 1m points for the event, which is a new high for me by a lot (still CPU only folding for me).  LONG LIVE THE FOLD!

I guess I am the lucky one - for the better part of 7 years now I've been doing F@H with four GPU's in my rig.. and have NEVER touched mining or even considered it. The sheer obscurity of it all and pitiful returns are the biggest turn-off. But the fact that mining has resulted in both a GPU shortage and price hike since the first crypto boom back in 2018 shows that the practice is having a much bigger and substantially negative effect on the entire PC community. This goes well beyond the average user. In fact, it hurts the average user - I am unable to get a replacement GPU now should one of my aging cards fail. Assuming I do find one, I'm paying $1800 for it instead of the $800 these were running for previously. And then I've only managed to get one card, not four identical.

The advent of mining farms is perhaps the biggest example of where this madness has led, and just like illegal weed grow farms, is a catalyst for all kinds of shady activity. It's no surprise you need to be at that scale to become actually profitable with crypto and get rich quick. These locations aren't being kept secret because they fear their expensive equipment - it's because they're most likely stealing electricity and don't want to be caught. You certainly don't expect to find thousands of antminers inside a barn in the middle of a field... and then discover the owner was receiving subsidized electricity meant for agricultural use.

Maybe I should have bought 10 water-cooled 1080's back when they were first available for $800/unit and sold six of them a year later brand new for $1600 a pop. Pretty sure there were many out there who made a nice buck that way profiting off the situation... and still do today.

Don't think that guy in the black leather jacket is so innocent either. Why is it that nVidia released mining specific cards at prices way higher than gaming cards... and NOT the other way around??? As long as they can profit off of the situation they sure as hell won't be doing anything any time soon to help things get back to where they were. Yet it would be a pretty simple fix to nerf a gaming card to make it unsuitable for mining similarly to how Quadro cards are optimized for what they do.

Norton/AVG/McAfee all have their issues - I stopped using them years ago. Even without the bloat and resource hogging they would constantly nag you for updates/upgrades, refreshes and a never ending stream of pop ups to move you over from their free version to a PAID subscription. There is a limit to the madness and BS I can put up with from a single piece of software getting in my face all the time and stopping me from getting what I need done.

The badges are assigned by Mods after the datasheet produces a list of people who qualify. What events have you participated in, I have copies of all past datasheets so can look them up for you. but I  can tell you, it has been checked and doubled checked by 3-5 people each event. We haven't missed anyone yet despite the fact I've had probably 100 people over the last couple years messaging me telling me they most certainly participated.

You're correctly signed up, see the list here:
Do confirm your folding name is correct (your folding name is the same name as your forum name, correct?)

The badges for the events are handed out 'automatically', as in moderators by hand, gave out the badges for previous events. But you still had to comply by the minimum requirements (x amount of days active, y amount of points, etc.). Keep in mind this event doesn't have a badge associated with it.

So just confirm your folding name is correct and fold as much as possible (or at least until the minimum requirements of this event, which are listed in the first post of this thread) and you're good.

The thing that pisses me off is that all of my BANKING institutions have limitations on how long and complex my password can be. That pisses me off. I can understand not letting me use control characters or characters that will screw with the programming (as a programmer who has tried to parse song names with all sorts of characters in them, I know how much of a pain this is.), but for the love of christ let me make it as long as I want.
