  1. Kind of a weird analogy, but understandable. Is it still worth it to try and have the drive repaired or is it essentially a "dead" drive?
  2. I have an HDD that I no longer use since it started malfunctioning, I was advised that it may have been a bad logic board controller. Since then I was able to transfer most of my important files from the drive and no longer use it. However, I'm in need of another drive right now, if I can manage to format the HDD will this fix a bad controller?
  3. Is sagethumbs still reliable? I was looking into it and looked like that people were having stability issues with it? Or are those just isolated cases? Thanks, I've given it a look and it seems pretty solid, does the free version support .psd?
  4. Hello, I'm looking for a good alternative to Adobe Bridge, I can't use Bridge anymore since I don't use the full suite anymore so my remaining adobe apps are acquired through "other" means, I know Bridge is free but I'm not sure it would work with my Adobe apps (and I also find Creative Cloud quite instrusive). Basically I only need something that can preview mostly .psd and .ai files along with other raw photo formats, since Windows' file explorer doesn't. Something that could manage and compile works as PDF like Bridge would be great but not entirely necessary. I've heard of sagethumbs but I keep reading about how it's not supported anymore and not very stable.
  5. Alright, got it. Still, thanks very much for all these info. I'll probably take it to a shop and hope for the best.
  6. Alright thanks. If the controller is the likely issue, I assume formatting the disk won't have any effect? And if not, is this still fixable on my own or should I take it to a specialist?
  7. Update: the hard drive sometimes passes the Long Generic Test and sometimes it disconnects halfway through. I can't manage to run the fix on SeaTools since it also cuts halfway through. I also changed the power cables and the issue is still the same. I'm kind of lost now, could this be caused by malware? Should I just bite the bullet and try to format the disk? I can still transfer small files but it seems that trying to access or even view any large file size (about several GB) disconnects the drive.
  8. Alright thanks. I ran the "self test" on Seatools and it marks the drive as passed though. There is something on the security tab when checking the drive details that says the drive is "Frozen"? Does this have anything to do with the issue or might this be completely unrelated? Edit: On another attempt at a "Short generic test" it disconnects early or halfway through the test. I'm in the middle of running a "Long Generic Test" right now and somehow it isn't disconnected yet.
  9. Hi, is there a utility app I can use for Seagate instead, my hdd is a barracuda 1TB.
  10. Sorry I'm late, but I swapped out the SATA cable on the hard drive for a new one but unfortunately the issue still persists.
  11. I don't have a spare SATA cable or USB enclosure right now, but I'll try and get one asap. I'll update you guys as soon as I get one. But for now what should I do? Should I leave it as is? Or disable the drive in devmgm or take it out completely?
  12. I've checked with Crystal Disk Info and this is what shows up right now.
  13. Sorry, I'm not sure I quite understand, should I try taking out my HDD and try connecting it via a USB port and see if it connects properly there? Right now, the drive is being recognized by Windows but the moment I try to do anything with the files it disconnects/reconnects.
  14. Hi, I'm having this weird issue with my HDD that whenever I try to use it in any way or form it disconnects and reconnects from my PC. The issue started about a month ago but it has gotten progressively worse the past week. Before that I was still able to use it and even play games from the drive. But the past week and a half it has gotten to the point that it's become unusable, I can't even run a disk check or scan because it disconnects as soon as anything is done with it. I've also gotten an occasional "UNEXPECTED STORE EXCEPTION" and "KERNEL DATA INPAGE ERROR" BSoD, but these have not been too frequent, I don't know if these have anything to do with this issue at all though. I was thinking about replacing the hard drive with an ssd but I can't even move the files I need. However my other SSD is working fine. How should I approach this issue? All I've done so far is reseat the ram and reconnect/swap the SATA ports on the motherboard. I don't know how I should go with this, I didn't want to do anything drastic or spend too much money before I know how to move forward with this.
  15. As the title says, I've been consistently getting this type of BSOD. I believe I've triggered the BSOD about 4 times already in the past week or so. I may have a few hunches on what might be causing it but I'm not entirely sure. One is I might be having issues with my HDD, since I've been getting the notification that I've just connected my hard drive after I've logged in already. But crystaldiskinfo indicates "Good" on my HDD so I'm not sure if that's the problem. Another is that I've had an issue with updating Samsung Magician and I think the BSODs started around the same time. But I'm also not sure if they're related or just a coincidence. I've uninstalled Samsung Magician and I'll see how that goes. I'm not sure either if the issue is storage related in any way. Crystaldiskinfo also indicates "Good" on all of my drives. I don't see anything of note in event viewer either. I've read that it could also be caused by bad drivers? But I don't know how to check if I have bad drivers or which drivers to check. I hope to get some advice on how I should proceed with this.
  16. I'm looking to buy an old Samsung flagship used, particularly one from the S10 line but I have some questions. I've already found some decent deals for one of each(S10e/S10/S10+) and I'm just choosing from one of them. However I remembered the issue from a few months ago with old Samsung batteries being more susceptible to bloat if not used for extended periods of time. Is this something that I should particularly concerned about, like is it very common? Could I just buy the phone and have the battery replaced? Or is it a non-issue if the phone was regularly used? If it matters, all the S10 I'm choosing from are of the Exynos variant.
  17. Thanks for the reassurances, this is the first time I've played games on an actual gaming laptop so this is news to me. I'll still try to record the fans when I can and update the post.
  18. Might be a weird question but, I just recently got the HP Victus 15 and I'm fairly happy with it in all aspects, except for the fan noise. I haven't owned a laptop in a fairly long time, and this is my first experience with a dedicated gaming laptop. I have been for the most part a desktop user. But I'm getting this high pitched fan noise when I play games, I don't have a recording at the moment but I could somewhat compare it to bad coil whine or literally a plane engine (memes and kidding aside). I didn't get this high pitched fan noise in my old previous laptop which was an Acer Aspire 3, the fans got loud but it wasn't high pitched. But I assume its because this is a more powerful machine? Is this normal or is it grounds for RMA? I am still within the laptop's direct replacement window and I would like to know if I've gotten a problematic unit. And if it is normal, is there any way I could reduce the noise even when the fan is on full blast?
  19. Hello, for a little context, I was asked to choose a laptop for someone but will also serve as a secondary machine for me as well. They really prefer something from HP and we've ended up on the Victus. It will be mostly used for office apps, but I also intend to use it for some illustration/graphics apps (Illustrator, Corelldraw, Clip Studio etc.) and some light video editing. As for games, I only intend to play some esports titles and a few jrpgs, I think Genshin would probably the most "demanding" game I would install on it. I thought about getting the one with a 3050ti with an intel CPU but I've read that there isn't a huge difference from 3050 and 3050ti, and the one with a 3060 costs about $200(converted) more where I'm from, and the difference is a bit steep for me, Though, would this be good enough for this use case or are there any glaring issues with the Victus? Is there anything else that I should look out for?
  20. Sorry, I have no idea how to set up a VM or where to get one, and I think I read somewhere that they don't particularly handle games very well? Correct me if I am wrong though.
  21. Looking for an android emulator primarily for games that's most relatively safe-ish, it seems no matter where I look there's always someone with X issue with Y emulator. Also with good AMD CPU/GPU compatibility. I don't really play anything too demanding on emulators, mostly just casual and gacha games. Currently, I'm using Mumu Emulator, and so far I've had little problems (except for the occasional stutters ever since I tried switching to OpenGL and back to DirectX modes). The only reason I want to switch is because Nikke isn't supported on Mumu, (ridiculous I know) and they want you to update to Mumu X which they admittedly say have poor AMD compatibility. I used to have Bluestacks but I have bad performance issues on Bluestacks, presumably also poor AMD compatibility. And I can't use Google Play's emulator beta since their installation process currently doesn't allow you to change the installation path and requires 10GB of free space on the C: drive and I don't have space yet. I'm just looking for something that doesn't have too much bloat and won't try to mine crypto on my PC.
  22. Alright, thanks for these insights as well, I guess I'm leaning towards the HyperX now.
  23. I was asked to get a cheap over-ear headset for someone, something with passable audio and a decent mic. Something that isn't completely terrible. My budget is around $20-50. Some of the options I've looked at were the Razer Kraken X and HyperX Stinger Core. It'll be mainly used for online video calls and casual content consumption. I've only looked at budget gaming headsets so far since they were the only decent options I could think of. If anybody can share their experiences with these or have better recommendations it'd be greatly appreciated.
  24. Thanks for this as well. Where I live the Samsung 980 at full price costs about the same as the cheapest dram SSD (that I could find at least) which is the Teamgroup MP34 and Crucial P5, but for some reason dramless SSDs are on sale more often here. Though the SN 570 is just about $5 cheaper than the Samsung 980.
