It continually blows my mind people *willingly* install spyware in their own homes and computers, and then act shocked and outraged when it's used against them.

    why arent they failing
media streaming seems to be preferred over owning these days
and considering next gen of people they dont care to own things

That was the last guy, Don Matrick. Phil Spencer was a mid level executive at the time, and knew they were making a mistake. Actually Phil Spencer has been righting the ship every since he took the lead.

In fact, if you follow gaming news closely, Microsoft has been doing way more gamer-friendly stuff than Sony for a couple of years now:

    - Backwards compatibility for a lot of games from 360 to Xbox One (while Sony has no back-compat, just PS Now, which is expensive and doesn't work)
    - Supporting cross-platform multiplayer (while Sony has been actively combatting this)
    - Game pass subscription is amazing value (while Sony has been jacking up the price of PS Plus and removing 'free' PS3 and Vita games from the service you pay a fee for)

I don't care either way, I am just surprised people are still "fanboying" over Sony, even though they have been doing anti-gamer stuff ever since the PS4 has been market leader. (and yes, I own a PS4 and not an Xbox One, I kinda wish I bought an Xbox instead).

So it might be a good idea to unban Proton users.

    My Thoughts:
Anyone that understands the basics of how SIM cards work honestly shouldn't be surprised at this revelation. SIM cards are IN FACT a computer. They have their own processor, storage, and RAM as well as a variety of applications installed, some accessible via the phone and some not. SIM cards are extremely capable of a variety of tasks and should definitely be considered one of the weakest links in a mobile device. Regardless, it does look like some government contractors and other government entities are actively using this exploit. Thankfully, it looks like most US carriers should not be affected... How non-US carriers are affected are yet to be seen.

GanGan42 reacted to Beskamir in Parents Don't Like Phones At Schools
It should be up to the student to decide if they want their phone to be a distraction or a helpful tool. Being able to quickly google something can be better than stopping the entire class to ask a trivial or off topic question so even though most people would prefer to distract themselves with their phones I think we shouldn't punish those that would use their phone to aid their learning.

GanGan42 reacted to vanished in Google / Azure announce they'll be deploying AMD 2nd Gen EPYC "Rome" in Production
I think much of the server market was seriously put off by the numerous security issues Intel has incurred over the last few years, starting with Spectre and Meltdown but more recently the other problems like ZombieLoad, etc.  In a market where security and reliability are king, it's a really bad look for Intel.

On top of that, not only is EPYC significantly outperforming Intel's top products, but at a significantly lower TDP as well.  With efficiency being another huge consideration for servers, it's easy to see why this is a big win for AMD.

Then there's the cost. AMD is selling these chips at a small portion of the Intel "equivalent" (as if there even is one) - roughly 1/3 last I checked, much like the enthusiast (8+ core) desktop space.  But, in light of everything else, one could easily imagine how even if Intel gave away CPUs for free, many companies would prefer to use AMD at this time.  As it was once put, "If I was working in sales for Intel, I don't know how I would sell this turd".

No. Rather have an external Dac amp. A Schiit stack for 200$ prob sounds better than the AE-7. You can use a stack on a laptop, or on the go. Also, electrical sound isolation is non-existent if it’s in your pc.
