    They are both CL15 RAM; the latency in the tech specs is slightly different, though : G.skill - Latency Timings CL15 (15-16-16-35), Corsair - (15-17-17-35). Is this significant? and could it cause such issues?

    Only the brand has changed, the ram is the same speed and 2 x 8gb 300MHz. XMP is enabled, and I have checked this using wmic in cmd. (the memory is in dual channel, thus the issue is originating elsewhere).

    Hi all, I've looked at numerous ways to eliminate stutter, but nothing's really worked... So here goes: Recently my power supply blew and I took it in to the store that custom built it for me under warranty. All was good and they replaced the hard-drive and the cpu cooler, because apparently it had died too as a result... They also ended up giving me new ram, as I realised they had damaged my original corsair vengeace rgb ram sticks when installing the cooler. So now I have G.Skill Trident Z RGB 300MHz Ram... All was good and seemed to be running fine (wasnt really playing many games last week) and then the other day I went to play farcry 5 and started experiencing really bad microstutter... This was unbearable, so I stopped playing. I then went to play rust and experienced stuttering there too... The stutters were less frequent, but more prolonged... I have NEVER experienced stutter in games on my GTX 1080, i7 8700k system... I thought it may have been the graphics drivers, so I reinstalled them - still stuttered. I then thought that it was only games on my HDD because CSGO (on my ssd) seemed to be running fine. So defragged my HDD and ran Seagate's diagnostic check on it - it passed the diagnostic check and defragging did not help. I have ran intel's Processor diagnostic tool and microsoft's own memory diagnostic tools, both passed with flying colours... GPU and CPU temps are both stable, so I don't think it's them... although I did experience some really bad lag/mouse cursor jitter after running something cpu intensive the day I noticed the stutter (can't remember what it was though...) Played csgo tonight and now realise that it is stuttering too (although much less frequent)... When playing pubg I am also dropping frames significantly, going from 160-180fps to 60fps when the stutters happen - which is not fun at all... I am planning on contacting the system builder tomorrow, but just wanted some input from you guys first... Can anyone advise me on anything else that could be causing this? Thanks in advance.

    If the error light is on for the CPU, then it might be the processor itself, not the motherboard... Would probably be unlikely since it's worked for 2 years though... Did you have the CPU overclocked or overvolted?

    Cheers mate - I'll delete the partitions and give it a go! EDIT: Just deleted it all and made a new partition with all the free space - it made a few more small recovery partitions by itself, but there was 118GiB out of the 119GiB on the primary, so I'm happy. Thanks a lot for your help - hopefully the windows install runs smooth from now on :)) EDIT #2: It's been stuck on 'getting files ready for installation (15%)' for like 10 mins, which is great!! I'll leave it there for a while and if it doesn't work, I'll try again...

    If the partitions are specifically for recovery, I wonder why windows can't recover itself in startup repair I'll keep trying anyway - if not, reinstall Might just do it from the USB then - after this update failed, I'll be scared to do one ever again EDIT: Actually think I might just delete all the partitions, so my drive is as big as possible... would this work? Delete everything but ACER partition and refresh? would this increase the capacity or would I have to delete all 6 partitons and format the whole ssd?

    The only thing is, this is the first time I'm seing these partitions - they never showed up in windows before... I don't remember ever using disk management on this machine, so maybe they were there but just not visible in explorer...

    I didn't make these partitions, so I'm not sure what would be on them... might reinstall windows on the main one and figure out what is on the others later on... If I was to delete them later on(after reinstalling windows), would the main drive get all the space from them back? EDIT: also, I read online that you need 20GB free to reinstall 64-bit windows... I have 26GB, but wanted to make sure that's enough?

    OK, I don't use the laptop for much now anyway, so don't really need the extra space.. so I'll juts keep them... I suppose I could always locate them and delete them later anyway...The laptop is from 2013, so I doubt it's under warranty but I'll keep em i think. Thanks for the reply

    Hi all, Had a failed update and my latop wont repair itself or boot. Tried booting into the win10 media creation tool on a usb and repair it that way (using the built in repair and going off various cmd youtube tutorials), but nothing worked... So I've gone into ubuntu on a seperate drive and copied most of my stuff. Was going to do a fresh reinstall, but got to the disk selection window and saw this: My latops SSD is 128GB, thus the main drive is obviously the one selected... Not sure why there are so many recovery partitions (one of which is 13gb wow), might have something to do with the cmd magic I tried before... Nevertheless, I wanted to ask for opinions on what to do. Should I just use the selected partition and ignore the rest? or should I delete them to free up some space on my main drive? I know that even if you select a fresh reinstall, windows still keeps your old files in windows.old (which would be nice to have). would deleting these delete that windows.old file? Thanks in advance.

    I have a GTX 1080 8GB, the performance of which is slightly more than yours, but is close enough for comparison. I'm personally keeping mine because it rips through everything at ultra 1440p. 8GB VRAM will be plenty for the next 3 years @ 1440p. As long as your happy possibly dialing down settings to medium-high graphics in 3 years time to get over 60pfs (this is inevitable), I would keep it.

    I found a software called DMDE, which has a fairly unrestricted free version, and was able to restore 120GB of photos etc off my drive! drive is still corrupted, but at least most of the stuff is saved! EDIT: didn't want to do this until i recovered stuff, but followed this, and now i have access to the drive - there's only 500MB available (there was like 120GB+ originally, but most of that was recovered using other tools, and now I have access to the drive through windows... would have liked to get it all back to where it was but at least i got most of it Thanks everyone for all your assistance - I really appreciate it!!!

    Just used DMDE and I can say that this is a FANTASTIC Software - Free version does not have many restrictions... AAAANNND I was able to get ~120GB of stuff off of it... most pictures seem fine (uncorrupted), so I've been able to retrieve them and other stuff!! Drive is still not accessible through windows, however, so I'll have to try and REPAIR it now, rather than just RESTORING data, because I think i have most of it now :)) Thanks all so much for your help!! P.S, do you think that it's my Hard-drive's boot sector damaged or something? because windows cant open it, but data inside seems fine? Know any tools for repairing this? testdisk maybe? Cheers!

    #5 is just a re-brand of m3 ... don't get me wrong, m3 is super easy to use and the deep scan is great, I just hevn't got the $70 to spend will try DMDE

    Thank you for your reply. I do have an ubuntu boot usb, but was looking for something within windows... something like the r-studio mentioned in Linus' most recent video? he mentioned free alternatives, but I cant see any with similar functionality.

    Hi all, I have a corrupted hard drive, but i know that it still has data on it, because I used recuva to get some stuff off of it (mainly pictures). I know there's more stuff on it, because I used m3 data recovery tool, and it showed me what was in it, but you have to pay $70 after the first 1gb of data recovered... so i was wondering what the best FREE alternative to m3datarecovery tool would be, as i want to get everything off of the drive. Thanks in advance!

    Tried the m3 data recovery, just to see if there was still anything on it and ta-da!! its there! You have to pay $70 to get more than 1 gb off of it though so not sure what to do... but at least now i know that its not wiped i guess... any ideas? attached is what the recovery software shows. most of my files are in 'raw files '

    It (chkdsk) completed and showed that "Windows has made corrections to the file system. No further action is required." But Unfortunately the drive is still corrupted

    Just tried chkdsk and it started somehow, hopefully it works. it said deleting orphan file record segment about a million times, which gave me a heart attack. but it is scanning right now...
