  1. Both of my systems have been fine since the Sonic Studio update.
  2. My Sonic Studio software auto updated tonight via the Windows App Store. On a restart I immediately got ONE crash dump file in my temp folder. However: I set fast startup back on and, so far, crash dump files have stopped appearing in my temp folder and copy and paste is working! It is worth pointing out that I have never been able to have fast startup enabled without getting the problem so this is a very hopeful sign!
  3. Just seen this post in response to a request I put in on the Nahimic community: https://nahimic.helprace.com/i605-copy-and-paste-not-working#item_comment_block_41787 Nahimic Support · 42 minutes ago We are aware of this problem and we are working on it We will communicate on this problem when we have understood the problem. Best regards, Awesome!!!
  4. 10 seconds seems to work OK for me. I'm considering automating file deletion and auto re-booting but i sincerely hope it will be fixed properly soon!
  5. Nice addition Pirata! I'll add it to the other forum with a credit. So run up Task scheduler Click on the right top panel - Create Basic Task Type a name in, NEXT Click "When I log on" NEXT Click "Start A Program " NEXT Browse to the folder you put your script in and choose it. (As mentioned make sure you put it in a simple folder name like "c:\Nahimic\") NEXT Click the check box to open the properties dialogue FINISH At the bottom of the properties window "Configure for:" - choose Windows 10 Click the check box for "Run with the highest privileges" Click the "Triggers" Tab Select "At log on" Click Edit Under "Advanced settings" Check "Delay task for:" Choose "30 seconds" in the drop down Edit the "30" for whatever you want... I went for 10. Click OK Click OK That's it. To check it is working - right click on it and RUN it. If there is no dump file in your temp folder then nothing will seem to happen To check it works create a text file in the temp folder, rename it to: "PRODUCT_NAME_UNKNOWN_CrashDumpPRODUCT_VERSION_MAJOR_UNKNOWN-PRODUCT_VERSION_MINOR_UNKNOWN-2018-11-21--10-39-14_.dmp" Then run the task again
  6. I've found that sometimes the service still manages to fail on a restart which explains why a shutdown with fast startup disabled doesn't always work. I have written a short vb script which I run at logon to check whether there are dump files being written into my temp folder. I've put the script up on Tom's here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-3786929/error-message-copying-pasting.html It is reliant on you deleting the dump files once you've been alerted and may give the odd false positive because sometimes the Nahimic service creates a file or two in their anyway.
  7. The problem came back for me yesterday for the first time since I found the fast startup workaround on 31-10-18. It went away with another shutdown but the fact that it happens and there is no way of knowing without checking the temp folder or doing a copy and paste is really very annoying. In the space of just over 30 minutes the service wrote 446 dump files. To recap: 1. You can disable fast startup in Windows. Solves it so it only happens rarely (for me at least). However, start-ups and shutdowns take considerably longer than normal. 2. You can disable the Nahimic service . Solves it but causes problems with the software (Sonic Studio in the case of Asus boards) 3. You can install a slimmed Asus or MSI driver (not sure if there is an MSI one). This avoids installing Sonic Studio/Nahimic but obviously you lose the features the software offers. I am beginning to find this quite tempting but the Nahimic software does really seem to enhance the sound. I chased Asus yesterday and had a reply today that they still haven't been able to duplicate the problem. As I've mentioned on other forums - I have two systems with this problem (completely different hardware except they both have Sonic Studio 3 facility) and could not stop the problem on either no matter what I did. I think my contact at Asus UK is treating the problem seriously but I really don't know if Asus Taiwan are still working on it or have given up thinking that I'm just one user with a problem (despite pointing them at related forum posts). Other forums listing the problem: https://nahimic.helprace.com/s1-general/problems/new http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-3814701/nahimic-audio-service.html https://www.reddit.com/r/Alienware/comments/9gfejm/help_nahimic_service_crash_dump/
  8. That's really strange. The fact that a restart fixes it for you means that it is the hybrid shutdown that is causing the problem.... so disabing fast startup should fix it! I disabled the service myself when I was testing solutions. Unfortunately this ended up with me being unable to get Sonic Studio working again at all - this is why I ended up re-installing Windows. If you aren't too fussed about using Sonic Studio features then perhaps a better solution might be to install the slimmed driver without Nahimic from the Asus forums? FYI - Asus support have been in touch with me. So far they haven't been able to duplicate the problem. This is strange to say the least because I couldn't find a way to avoid the problem on my machine or my son's if I install the full Nahmic driver.
  9. That's odd Benzmann it worked on two different systems here and you have exactly the same motherboard as mine. I'm assuming you followed my guide and disabled fast boot in Windows? Disabling it in BIOS didn't have any affect for me. I just double checked both systems, nothing on mine for over a week now but on the other system. It actually has produced the problem on odd days but only briefly, a couple of dump files today at 8:16am, a couple a few days before that. Are your dump files being created constantly still? You might want to try the Intel chipset fix next and if that fails try the reduced driver set.
  10. I'm glad the fast boot fix solved the problem for you. Hopefully Nahimic are reading these forums and can see there is a real problem with their driver software (assuming it is actually them of course). I also have chipset driver version 10.1.16.5. On this installation I decided to leave it up to Armory crate to do all the work without fiddling and manually putting support site drivers on. Interesting As you suggest their support site has a newer driver 10.1.17695.8086 however, MSI seem to be showing an even newer driver than that 10.1.17711.8088. https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/MPG-Z390-GAMING-PRO-CARBON-AC#down-driver&Win10 64 My Armory Crate installed realtek sound driver (6.0.1.8557), however, is actually newer than the one on the support site (6.0.1.8507)
  11. @Benzmann, There are a three possible methods now. 1. You could use my method which is linked here - basically disable Windows fast boot in Windows. Solves the problem until a full driver is released which doesn't have the problem... This method is very easy to do but it will slow your shutdown times and startup from turning your system on. Or 2. Pirata's method which involves installing a different reduced driver set which he links in this thread. The reduced driver doesn't have Sonic Studio which is not a massive problem although I quite like what it does. Or 3. Some people seem to have solved the problem (like the OP) by installing an Intel Chipset driver from the MSI site. I have tried installing the latest chipset drivers myself but it made no difference. NOTE! The problem temporarily goes away if you restart your computer rather than do a default shut down. This means that you can think you've solved the problem after installing some drivers and then restarting.
  12. @Pirata I've seen your posts on the Asus forum.... Does the latest driver include Sonic Studio/Nahimic? I got the impression from you that it was a reduced driver set which didn't include this............. If it doesn't I will probably cope with the slower boot until there is a proper fix.
  13. You could check for updates manually in the Microsoft store (which updates the Realtek Audio Control. Type "Microsoft Store" into the Cortana search area. When the store opens click the 3 dots in the top right corner, click downloads and updates and then click get updates below that. I'm assuming you have the ASUS ROG STRIX z370 G.... If you want to take a gamble you could try the drivers I'm using which are for the Asus Maximus Hero XI but MIGHT work with your board. Note that it could fix the issue or make it worse or even stop your sound working. You could create a new user profile in Windows which probably will fix the problem for the new profile, not great but you can then copy docs etc.. out of your old profile and eventually delete your old profile. You could wait for Asus to fix the problem (which they probably will eventually) You could fresh install Windows. A bit painful I know but that's what I did in the end (although because I thought it would fix the Nahimic problem which it damned well didn't!!!).
  14. Glad it worked. Asus support have forwarded my information to their HQ to see if they can duplicate the problem. Whilst it could be a massive coincidence, having the same problem on two completely different PC only sharing the same Nahimic software/Sonic Studio 3 feature surely means they will be easily able to duplicate the problem and get their software provider to fix this. Actually I *might* be able to help you with your second problem or at least point you in the right direction. I had the same problem on my first Windows install after I tried many different ways to fix my problem (before giving up and starting again!). At one point I tried installing drivers directly from Realtek - note that their Audio console doesn't work with the current version of Windows 10 (AFAIK). This broke the Windows App store Realtek Audio console. I would suggest removing all traces of the realtek audio software and then installing the drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website (Asus/MSI etc..) For Asus on the latest Hero boards (z370 & z390) the driver is called: 8507_UAD_WHQL_2018_0815_NAHIMIC.zip If you've already done that then you could try a good driver cleaner like CCleaner.
  15. After trying this fix and several others, none worked including a format and re-installation of Windows 10! I have an Asus ROG Hero XI with an i9900k. The board has a Realtek chipset and enables Sonic Studio. For me the entire problem revolved around the Nahimic Service which, AFAIK, is by A-Volute (or vica-versa). If I disabled the service - problem gone but then Sonic Studio didn't work correctly. EDIT: I've just got exactly the same problem on my son's system which has an Asus z370 board (he just had the default Windows driver on before I installed the Asus Realtek driver set). The workaround fixes it on his too. I've posted at length about this problem here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-3786929/error-message-copying-pasting.html However, in brief! Windows 10 by default does a Hybrid shutdown. The Nahimic service or some part of the connected driver package doesn't like this. The workaround which has SO FAR woked for me with my system configuration is to disable fast startup in Windows: Right click the Windows Icon, bottom left Click Power Options Click Additional power settings on the right of the menu Click Choose what the power buttons do on the left of the menu Click Change settings that are currently unavailable Under Shut-down settings uncheck "Turn on fast start-up (recommended) Hopefully Nahimic/A-Volute will fix their software so it can cope with a Hybrid shutdown.
