  1. I'm kinda hoping it's not the LastPass thing, I was led to believe that nothing of value was given in that I think I need to change all my passwords now
  2. Unless I'm wrong Windows has a cache which stores previous DNS requests which should all but eliminate most DNS-related speed issues. If you had no cache for whatever reason or you wanted to push that 0.1% better for the times cache isn't used then I guess that's a scenario but I just don't think I'm seeing it lol Edit: I suppose my question is more about how often your DNS cache gets hit I'm just surprised it would make a big difference. The video
  3. I've got a Cat6a SOHO setup where I've individually tested: -All cables used (with cable tester): - - Cable from PC to wall outlet - - Cable from wall outlet to patch panel - - Cable from patch panel to switch - Running long cable from switch to PC (with a Cat5e cable) And yet when I connect my PC to the wall outlet it will temporarily say "identifying" and then disconnect again. So as far as I can see it seems like it "knows" it's there, but either something crashes or something is maybe configured wrong? Though I can't imagine what considering it seems fine when connecting Cat5e directly to the switch. Any ideas? EDIT: Nvm sorted it out, I had twisted the actual plate to visually sit the way I wanted. This caused the cables to get twisted which presumably caused interference. The wallplate looks upside down now but it works
  4. I've been searching online for an appropriate controller to use with my android phone (playing some retro games) It's all well and good that there's the "Gamevice" for ROG phones but I've no idea how well that would work on other phones, I don't know if there's anything proprietary going on. Has anyone got experience with this / can give any advice? Examples of what I've been looking at so far: GameSir X2 MANGGUO I'm tempted to try and cheap out on it given most high pricing but I'm a little uncomfortable with getting something that may fall apart day 1
  5. Verrrrry unique router here, I dare say it won't be seen often, or maybe it will be seen often, who knows Thoughts?
  6. I'll happily take a look at a site with a positive price trend. I saw a 12TB drive on scan.co.uk for £299 a few weeks back (doesn't seem to be in stock there currently), going for £350 currently on amazon, Similar sized drives on scan at cheapest go for about £323. Well disregard that, it seems there's a 14TB going for £298.88 Aside from various media the Mrs wanting to store raw game recordings is a struggle on space lol
  7. Synology it is x] (Didn't realise it was a barebones) Will deffo look for a 10Gbe one though, we got 10Gbe lan here
  8. Ah! I didn't notice that was for 2.5" drives! (It's 2am here) Similar question but for a 3.5" version https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174517018975?epid=12042443489&hash=item28a206615f:g:8c8AAOSwWIlfoYe5 Ignoring the 2.5" drives part (mistake on my part) Just seems value for money to get more bays per £ But figuring that there's more to it than that that I'm noticing.
  9. So before the hard drive prices go up any further (fingers crossed) I was really hoping to get a home NAS to stream media to my TV / have it as extra storage for rest of the household but unsure what's really worth it. At first glance the old supermicro server seems like it would be good (£500) here 10 bays for £500, it wouldn't have much processing power but again I'm just after data storage, not processing power. That said I imagine it could take up more power so it'd likely be more costly to run? But if it's not actively doing much most of the time maybe it wouldn't be that bad? By comparison a similar priced Synology unit would give me 4 bays for £492 here Thoughts?
  10. This is something I gotta try overall to be better with, I didn't really consider the exercise to be a factor in it but yeah that makes sense you'd sleep better for it. Not sure if any foods are better than others, I try to be generally healthy with what I eat but haven't really looked into specifics. +1 to keeping lists! My memory isn't the best so this really helps keep me on track Not to mention it's satisfying
  11. It's in-house project management software for architects, not something I'm particularly interested in lol. Isolation may just be something for me personally, I enjoy being in the office with other people but I personally find it hard to tune out people talking to focus solely on my work; I do find instrumental music helpful for me with this but it doesn't always work for me so kinda gotta play it by ear.
  12. Anyone got any got concentration tips for when they're programming/coding? So far I've narrowed it down to Go to sleep no later than 10:30pm If working on an area you know thoroughly (and don't need to think about), listen to instrumental music If working on a different area you will need more problem solving elements, don't listen to music If people are chatting around you then listening to music may be better however being totally isolated is probably best. Changing up my scenery seems to help. If I'm particularly struggling with a piece of work I'll take my laptop away from my desk to the downstairs main table, it's not got the full tech setup but mentally it helps me. No more than 2 coffees in a 4ish hour period, I may physically be very awake if I have more but I would basically be a zombie mentally after that; I don't know why. If you're really stuck on a problem, try rubber duck debugging where you explain your problem to something, your methodical approach of explaining the problem usually reveals the answer ( I do prefer explaining to real people though) Surround yourself with people who are interested in programming (struggled to program in my spare time when all my friends were artists, guess all I wanted to do was draw! lol ) (If working from home) Have a main area dedicated to working, e.g. If possible don't be gaming in the same room that you do work, have that 'work environment' Don't need that taking up brain space. There's probably some things I could do in terms of dietary changes but I've not really experimented with it Anything in particular work for yous?
  13. I asked my friend about the shorting issue. So the card is quite tall and he didn't have it screwed in/fastened to the case, so when he went to plug a cable in that caused the card to move in the PCIe slot which caused the short. The tabs with screws he added was enough to fasten it and stop it moving
  14. Banned for possible minecraft joke
