That's not the only definition of hacking and you know it, stop being a dick. I also don't condone cheating in multiplayer games and won't help people cheat because "I, person on the internet, promise not to use this cheating software in multiplayer games, only single player" is not even remotely believable enough for me. But someone who "hacks" is "a computer expert who uses their technical knowledge to achieve a goal or overcome an obstacle, within a computerized system by non-standard means." There are kernel hackers and all sorts of other hackers who never gain unauthorized access to data in a system or computer. You nonce, even the official Linux Foundation website has a damn "Kernel Hackers Guide:" https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/kernel-hacking/index.html

If you're going to be a pedant, choose your battles wisely, or else you just look like a tool.

But no, cheat engine ain't hacking.

there are many physical aspects that you can see immideatly.
but i guess if you can't turn it on then return it immideatly.
look at what the spec sheet in your order confirmation says and double check all your specs are correct, as in if you bought a laptop with 16gb ram then check to make sure hwinfo or other monitoring programs can see you have 16gb and such

as someone who used the laptop keyboard of a laptop that had a tendency to hit 95° i suggest you force it to throttle earlier since my finger tips ended up getting hurt from touching the hot keyboard for a long time.
or get a seperate keyboard and plug it in your laptop if this is an issue.

i'd suggest keeping it under 85, unless you lose a lot of preformance by doing so. (also if it's older and you've used it in places like your bed, maybe removing dust would help too)

the floor is usually only bad if you're bad at vacuuming your room, or if you have carpets.
another option is if your desk has a small shelf near the bottom left or right side that you could place it on.

so you bought a 3070, and it's not going to arrive for 7 days.
And you're wondering if you can buy a 50$ gpu at your local hardware store and use it in your computer whilst waiting for the 3070?
yes, you can do that, but you will have to install the drivers for the 50$ gpu and then ddu them when your 3070 arrives as it doesn't use the same drivers.
if you have gone 2 months without a proper gaming computer i'm sure you can wait the extra 7 days though.

flashiling reacted to For Science! in "Fair" Overclocking Leaderboard Discussion
After what I can only describe as an epic sh*tstorm with the Userbenchmark Overclocking Competition. It got me thinking as to exactly what would be a good way to quantify and score an overclocking board. Perhaps those interested in making such a thread in future can contribute and learn from this thread to make a OC competition thread that is widely accepted by the community @Storm-Chaser.

In my opinion, an overclocking competition should be exactly that, a competition who is able to squeeze out more performance out of a certain chip. For this reason, while it is probably tempting and the easiest to just rank by score, it is important to quantify the score as a percentage over stock for a certain chip.

For example, no matter how much you bend backwards, an i7 2600K is not going to beat a R9 5950X in Cinebench Multi (or anything, perhaps). However, the point of an OC competition is the OCing and not whether you score higher (in my opinion). So I think that if you can get 150% performance out of a i7-2600K, that should be credited in some way. This would then mean that then chips that have a lot of overclocking headroom would be unfairly favored over more recent chips that don't have a lot of headroom (squeezing 150% out of a 2600K may be a lot easier than a 5950X, for example). So therefore the average "overclockability" would need to be also considered as a metric.

Obviously this would mean that the leaderboard would be very segmented with each chip needing its own table. I think that would be too fine and for this reason I would say just like how wrestlers are seperated by weight-class, you could group chips by a certain silicon generation (maybe?). And to give a metric that's comparable between weight-classes, I think some number that describes how good your OCing was relative to other OC's in that weight-class will let you demonstrate your "OCing skills".

How I could see it at the moment would be....

    - Each user would need to submit a "stock" score and "OC" score along with details of their chip.
    - Stock scores for an individual chip would need to be averaged with 3 sigma rejection to compute an "average stock score" for a certain chip, alternatively an autheticated user would serve as the "baseline stock"
    - "OC" scores would need to be computed first as a percentage increase over stock (OC score / average stock score * 100) and then tabulated into the weight-class (e.g. Intel 14 nm, or AMD 7 nm)
    - The percentage increase overstock can then be calculated as a sigma value (maybe?), to basically signify how much better your OC is relative to other OC's in the weight-class
    - The leaderboard would actually be sorted by sigma value

I can foresee many issues at the moment as the board will depend heavily on how the weight-class are sorted, but for now this is probably enough to get a discussion started.

Its not a fair fight is what people are saying. The 5600x is better, even in single core performance than an i5 9600k, but yet there system says otherwise. So why should I bench my 3700x against say an i3 8100 and lose because there weighting system says so? Its not right, its not proper and does not actually present a fair fight. its a rigged fight for Intel based on the way Userbenchmark has there system coded.
