Actually, I saw this exact MO a week or two ago: make a simple post, get a few responses, make another post later that day, then go nuclear without provocation.

Just saying it's a pattern, not an incident.

That still requires a DisplayPort input. My initial question is "why not just use an DP MST hub and two active DP->HDMI adapters?" The only usecase I see is for Macs, which don't support MST (for some reason)...

I'd get a DisplayLink adapter (not a knockoff one). They actually work pretty well for 2D stuff (I can even watch Youtube without issues on mine).

Basic video out, as mentioned above, can be had with DisplayLink based devices. I've had good luck in the past with Plugable's line. These will work with any Type A or C USB 3.0 capable port, it does not need to support video. They're essentially basic "GPU's" that are software driven but for simple text/browsing output they work perfectly fine. I ran the DisplayPort model to a 2560x1600 60Hz display for years.

Doesn't exist (practically). HDMI can only support one "display" worth of data at a time; HDMI splitters will just mirror one display onto two (identical) ones.

A USB-A to HDMI adapter may fit your needs if you aren't doing anything graphically intense on one of your extra displays.

Does the sata power have 3.3v? Try cutting/removing th 3v3 power as its often used for drive spindown on these drives.  The drives should spinup even with no data connection.

A guest network would be the simplest solution. I personally use a separate VLAN for all my IoT for this reason.

I literally cannot possibly comprehend the process through which these people are listening to music that the process of moving data from an NVMe drive has some perceptible effect on audio quality, let alone how an NVMe drive can make their music have "real 3 demensional souding [sic], sense of vinyl and dynamic sound".

I feel like that whole thread is sampling bias and placebo effect gone wild.

AbydosOne reacted to LIGISTX in Raid performance with HDDs
RAID 5 or 6 is not the right terminology for "vdevs". vdevs are part of the ZFS architecture which is a software RAID solution (its a fantastic solution, I have been running ZFS via truenas for almost a decade).

I would advise you do A LOT more research before you buy or impliment anything. I would look in the truenas forums for beginner guides and explinations of whats what so you can get a better idea of pitfalls that are common, issues people run into, and gain a better understanding of what all is going on. These things are very important to understand up front because if you make config setups in the beginig, once you have the data populated, its really difficult to change things later since you will need to offload your data and start over...

This forum definitely can help a lot, but to get the mots out of said help, you need to do a good bit of reserach and homework on your own so we can all be speaking the same language per say :).

    Things to understand first are:
How much storage space do you think you need? how long will it take to fill this up, and how do you plan to increase capacity? how much money do you want to spend what hardware do you already have what is ZFS what are vdev's look into unraid so you know what your two main options are

    https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/video-speed-controller/nffaoalbilbmmfgbnbgppjihopabppdk?pli=1

This chrome extension allows you to speed up any online video content up to 16x speed, which is very useful for video streaming services like disney plus or HBO Max, that don't have a native playback speed option.

There are many settings and hotkeys you can change, but the default option is also perfectly fine.

Each individual drive gets 6Gbps; the total bandwidth would be limited by the controller's link to the CPU. ZFS can spread this bandwidth over multiple controllers.

AbydosOne got a reaction from tkitch in Raid performance with HDDs
You can saturate 2.5G with two HDDs in a mirror (assuming the mirror is smart enough to read as if it's a striped, i.e. read data blocks from each drive in an alternating fashion).

10G would take a little work, but could probably be done consistently with 10-12 (modern, fast, CMR) disks in a RAIDZ2 array (ZFS, which gets you at least a little redundancy).

    RAID-0.

I don't understand the people who want their NASes to run at 1GBps for any task. NASes (outside of multi-user video editing workflows and a few other) are usually used as glorified external HDDs and content vaults. Most uses of NASes other than moving data around for the sake of moving data around don't need anywhere near 10G ethernet speeds.

I have a pair of mirrored NVMe SSDs in my server for funsies (and 10G networking), but all the mass storage is done on HDDs, and I can still get >200MBps for most tasks.

Adapt an old mechanic's trick: use a long handle screwdriver as a stethoscope and listen for the clunky drive. (Touch the tip of the driver to the drives, and your ear to the end of the handle.)
