EscalatorBoy got a reaction from JoeCoke in The Super Smash Bros Melee for Nintendo Gamecube Thread!
If any of you are PC gamers (highly likely given that this is the LTT forum...) this might be of interest to you: Input lag is now officially quicker on PC than it is on console+CRT, provided your monitor doesn't have crazy amounts of display lag and you're using the Wii U Gamecube controller adaptor.
Check out fastermelee.net and follow the trail to a download of the latest build of Dolphin - it only works with Melee; any other game with run at double speed. Basically what it does is run the game at half speed, but runs the emulator at double speed, so the game reads your inputs twice as fast. Couple that with the efficiencies already present within Dolphin and you end up with roughly 2 frames saved.
In practice, this means you can play netplay with a 2 frame buffer at the same speed as console, making for truly lagless netplay if it's a close connection, which is quite the breakthrough. I played a guy from Kansas (I'm in Alberta) and it was actually playable, which never would have been possible on older builds of Dolphin.

I just love how every player, even if they're playing the same character, can have such different styles.
Since when did Axe switch to Fox? I know he's been playing more Falco lately, but I've barely seen his fox.

Picked up Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition, FORCED, and got a copy of Borderlands 2 for my wife. Gettin' my co-op on.

EscalatorBoy reacted to minibois in What are some other competitive games that reward players for their personal skill?
Super Smash Bros. Melee, it takes a long time to master all the techniques and is super hard to get to be the best ever. You have to learn a LOT of techniques to actually compete on semi competitive level and have to be AMAZING to win any major tournament. It's also a 1v1 tournament (you have 2v2 tournament too though) game, so you can go solo and don't have to depend on teammates.
But it's a whole lot different than LoL. It's a way different genre, but also the way you play is different. Competitive is also done at actual tournament and not at all online. You do have some online ladders and Dolphin emulation is getting way better (recently they made it so input lag is just as low as on consoles with some nifty tricks), but every major tournament is still done locally.

EscalatorBoy got a reaction from MoonSpot in Skyrim scripted start bug
You can, but I wouldn't recommend it.
There are multiple reasons for the cart flip bug, the framerate being one of them. Chances are if you have a lot of scripted mods installed, you'll get the cart flip anyway, so I generally use an alternate start mod to skip the vanilla intro.
But Skyrim is a game that relies very heavily on a consistent framerate for its physics engine to work properly. Limit your framerate to 60 FPS, or you'll have a ton of problems down the road with the way the game handles scripted quests, physics, etc.

Mod author cloudedtruth, creator of Dynamic Follower Dialogue (DFD) and of Minerva - Custom High Elf Voiced Follower (in concert with rxkx22) was working on a huge update to DFD, which is now slated to be released soon as a new mod instead. Relationship Dialogue Overhaul (RDO) will instead replace DFD and Follower commentary overhaul (FCO), as well as add several new features like the ability to recruit several unique NPCs that aren't recruit-able through follower overhauls.
Though not yet released, it is one to watch out for and grab.
After using DFD for a while and being immensely happy with it and its impact on interactions with NPCs, I'm quite excited to see what this new release/iteration will be like in game.
See RDO Reddit thread for details.

It's worth noting that while Realvision does have the most endorsements as far as ENB's go, there's a wide variety of incredible ENB presets - many of which aren't don't even have much impact on performance. Personally, I find realvision to be far too bright and blurry. It's a bit overrated, and it isn't really for me, especially since most of the modern ENB's that really cook your graphics card were released long after the game itself decreased in popularity, driving down the number of endorsements on the Nexus.
I've been running a homemade concoction of the Natural Lighting and Vivid Atmospherics ENB (omg the sunsets) coupled with a few extra settings I pulled out of the Straylight ENB (Which has the best ambient occlusion settings I've seen so far, the characters just look incredible). Depth of field hit my performance too hard, so on top of that, I added the recently released Skyrim Reloaded mod to handle that, as well as adding in motion blur, without the performance hit.
If you like, I'll post some screenshots later. The main point is, experiment with ENB's if you're going that route, and don't be afraid to try stuff that isn't in the "top files of all time" list, since that list is heavily biased towards stuff that was released pretty early in the game's modding cycle.

EscalatorBoy got a reaction from MoonSpot in Skyrim question
For the record, you can totally edit armor values in TES5Edit - just make sure to dig around in the mod file to find the right thing to change. Back up your esp and experiment a bit, you'd be surprised at how much you can do. You might be able to use the creation kit to upgrade it as well, but TES5Edit is awesome.

The entire line of logic is insane. Do you have any idea how much goddamn money you would make if your pharmaceutical company were to be the ones to cure cancer? You'd immediately change your slogan to "The People who Cured Cancer" and live comfortably on endless profits until the end of your days.
Not to mention the fact that literally everyone, including medical professionals, have had someone in their life die of cancer, and wouldn't be able to keep the cure a secret. Unless all the researchers are sociopaths, I don't see how this cynical outlook is close to reality.

But back on topic! Infinitely rechargeable batteries sound amazing. It's rare to see large leaps in battery technology, so we'll see how it all pans out.

Have separate servers for each expansion. If you want to move a character from Vanilla to Burning Crusade, you pay a transfer fee.

EscalatorBoy got a reaction from Daegun in Skyrim mods : CBBE vs UNP
If you make a backup of your mod list and load order, switch back to vanilla Skyrim and then rebuild your mod list in Mod Organizer, the save should work just fine. MO is highly recommended, especially if you plan of having different mod lists for different playthroughs.

EscalatorBoy got a reaction from ThomasD in Skyrim quest mods
Interesting NPC's is an absolute must have. There's plenty of awesome quests for the added characters, and it never leaves my load order.
The Notice Board is also excellent - it overhauls the radiant quest system and makes the side quests a lot more interesting.
I'm also a big fan of the 3 hit combo of Civil War Overhaul + Warzones + WZ: Assault Attack. Works well as a world enhancement as well, giving it a much more war ravaged feel.
I've never been big into the huge quest mods and land expansion mods, so someone else can chime in on those; looks like you've tried quite a few already.

EscalatorBoy got a reaction from ShadowCaptain in PC GAMES. Keyboard+Mouse Or Controller.
Loving the irony here.
Can you think of no situation where the fine precision of movement that an analog stick would provide might make a positive difference in control preference? Metal Gear is a perfect example - digital control makes it way harder to apply fine control to sneaking positions, crawl in between laser grids and peak out around corners. Controllers are also the best solution for emulation.

EscalatorBoy reacted to ShadowCaptain in PC GAMES. Keyboard+Mouse Or Controller.
What are you even talking about?
Yes you can, left stick to strafe left and right, (depending on the game) right stick to aim , movement is independent to the aiming
The left stick does nothing different than WASD, and the right stick moves just like your mouse
I am not defending people not making games properly, i just think some game styles are inherently designed and are better played on a controller
Just because you blindly think keyboard and mouse are the only option that matter

EscalatorBoy got a reaction from PlayStation 2 in How Did The Wii Have Such Good Graphics For Such Piddly Specs?
Nintendo are masters of art style, and a game can often look mad good with low technical demand if you develop within the limits of the hardware. There were a lot of third party games on the Wii that looked like wet hot garbage, but the first party titles hold up really well. Hell, most first party Gamecube & N64 games still look amazing today.

EscalatorBoy got a reaction from Shayannike.ps3 in Vintage Gaming
Aside from Arkham Knight, which I haven't played as is pretty broken on PC - the other 3 Batman games are awesome. Origins got a lot of hate for being an iterative sequel, but I think it's pretty damn good too.
Far Cry 3 can probably be picked up on the cheap, and as far as open world shooters with good stealth elements go, I had fun with this one. After playing Metal Gear Solid 5, this feels a bit underwhelming now, but it's hardly the fault of the game - it's just that the bar's been raised.
All in all, if you're fairly new to PC gaming, I'd say pick up something that's a good value for the amount of hours you can put into it, and save up for the next Steam sale. The winner on my list is easily Skyrim (loaded with hundreds of mods, of course) at 1373 hrs (!) which also works well as a third person shooter with stealth mechanics, so long as you don't mind shooting with a crossbow in a fantasy setting.

Mass Effect Andromeda is certainly up there; I mostly just wonder how they're going to figure out how to deal with the endings of the third game.

Hook'm up with emulators and he can go through the library of old school console classics. Plus, it's never to early to start playing Super Smash Bros. Melee for Nintendo Gamecube.
Rocket League is a fine suggestion. Also, while the intro is quite sad, Ori and the Blind Forest is a great platformer. Pretty hard, but that didn't stop me from playing games when I was a kid.

My wife and I have gotten a lot of mileage out of Gauntlet.
And strangely enough, even though she hates sports, I had her try Rocket League the other day and she enjoyed it quite a bit.
There's also tonnes of co op and local multiplayer games available via console emulation, so it never hurts to dive into the retro pile.
