I will assume this is not a troll post and will be the first person to actually help you with what you're looking for instead of telling you not to go AMD.  At 2500 you will be able to rock a sick system aside from the CPU.  But you already know that from all the above posts!  I personally would find this money not-well-spent, but to each their own!   You might want to even go bigger with a 1200 or 1600W PSU.

If you're willing to forgo some gaming performance, AMD chips for rendering are pretty good value, if you can utilize all 8 threads while rendering.
    http://pcpartpicker.com/p/cxRfjX

I'd suggest this, with an Nvidia GPU for CUDA and 8 threads for good multitasking (though like I said, gaming performance will take a hit)
I was lucky enough to find my 8350 for $129.99 over November, but I don't think a deal like that will come around soon.
SSD for what you're currently working on + HDD for mass storage might be a good option for you, though you can cut down as you see fit. (to reduce price)
16GB of RAM would be nice for video editing (I have 8 and I kind of regret getting that little), but if you really can't have the price over $800, you can cut down on this too.
CPU cooler wise I think you'll be okay as long as you don't OC, but the Hyper 212 (or T4) is a great option if you want to OC a little or have a cooler chip.

TheRunningOtaku reacted to SafetySkull in Should I be worried about obsolescence so soon after building my PC?
So. This might be first-time nerves but I'm building my first PC and I'm worried that the parts I'm buying will be replaced by something better in a few months.
I'm thinking of putting an Intel Core i7-4790K into my build which closely resembles Linus' ULTIMATE Surround Gaming PC. But that guide (and CPU) came out almost a year ago.

Should I try to avoid purchasing a processor on the tail-end of this generation? Will games start coming out in the near future that my build struggles to play? Or am I concerned over nothing?

TheRunningOtaku reacted to alpenwasser in Optimal temps for Harddisk and SSD
Google did a large scale study (pdf) on this (published 2007), in which they conclude that:
(Chap. 3.4, "Temperature", p.5)And again in the conclusion:
(Chap. 5, "Conclusions", p12)If you look at Figure 4 you can see that the optimal temperature is somewhere between
37 and 46 degrees celsius. Also, Figure 5 shows that it's mostly not temperatures but
    age which make drives fail.
Note that the study was conducted with consumer grade drives:
(Chap. 5, "Conclusions", p12)Here's a condensed version if you don't want to read the whole thing.
I highly recommend either looking at Google's study or some condensed version of it,
there's quite a few important results in there. Personally I was actually most surprised
about the fact that higher utilization does apparently not affect drive failure rates.
The temperature thing I kind of expected because HDDs these days use fluid dynamic
bearings which actually work better when temperatures are not too low. Personally I
try to keep my disks around between 38 and 45 C.

Personally I wouldn't use a dual-core system for gaming, but if you OC the heck out of it, some people have had good results. If he's looking at playing newer games, I'd suggest a quad-core APU (if his budget is tight), an 860K or saving up a little more for an i3 or i5.

If those voltages are real, they look hideous. Your +5V should be running at around 5V(and your +3.3V at around 3.3V). I would get a different power supply if those readings are accurate. Check your BIOS for voltage readings as well just to make sure HWMonitor isn't glitching out.

Do NOT buy an FX chip in 2015, please just don't (unless you're on a really really tight video editing budget, which you aren't). Compared to i5's any FX chip is just horrific in games. I would recommend an i5-4690k and a Z97 board or a i5-4460 and H97 board (4690k can overclock, 4460 cannot and is clocked lower).

4690k is >= 8350 when both overclocked in multithreaded performance as well.

All the stand offs in the 230 T should be the same height except the ones I circles in re which are longer due to depressions in the mobo tray. I would contact Corsair ask the for a package of standoff if you can or get some replacements that are the correct height.

The 9590 isn't as bad as some people make it out to be, but compared to an i7, it's nowhere near the performance level.
Also, if you're looking at value, get an 8350 or 8320, and OC it. You'll get much better value there, as they're cheaper than most quad-core Intel chips.
I'd recommend intel if you're a newbie to building PCs, and if you're just gaming, get an i5. There's no need for 8 threads at this point in time. (like what @MLG Doge said)

    That's true, but if he isn't getting a high-end rig with high-res monitors, it doesn't matter that much - I always get a smooth 60FPS on my 1600 x 900 monitor.
It all depends on his use case, and what's on sale at the moment. Agreed though, the lowest i5 can beat any FX chip out there hands down.
I was lucky and managed to get my 8350 on sale at $129, so it was a steal.

Usually MicroATX motherboards have less PCIE lanes and less features - features that most people won't need anyways, so you aren't really missing out on much.
However, the main cost savings come from the fact that they need less materials to make the board, and shipping/etc etc is a lot cheaper, too.

TheRunningOtaku reacted to nicklmg in POLL: Top Banner on the Forum for Linus Media Group Office Campaign - Yay or nay?
    What is this?
As you may or may not have heard, we are moving to a new office very very soon! This is extremely exciting for all of us, as it means that we will have the space to put together amazing sets for our current shows as well as any shows that may come in the future. It also gives us the space to pick up some new team members here at LMG, something that we are pretty much out of in our current office...

Over the next month and a bit, we will be running a crowdfunding campaign through the forum to help supplement our moving expenses and renovation costs. There will be some very cool contributor rewards and quite a few awesome stretch goals (more info on those soon :D).

Now, many moons ago when the forum was but a wee discussion board, we promised that we would never add a top banner ad to our site. We know that many of you guys appreciate that, and we never plan to accept payment for a top banner spot on our forum.

However, with your approval, we would love to be able to advertise our own crowdfunding campaign in the top banner spot. Obviously our dedicated community members will find out about the campaign either way, but casual visitors might not see it unless it is prominently displayed in a spot like the top banner.

So please answer the poll and leave your thoughts down below. Can we add a top banner for our own campaign? Would we be going against our word to do so even though it's for our own campaign with no third party involved?

Rest assured, we won't be adding a top banner ad for our crowdfunding campaign unless there is an immensely positive response to this poll.

    Thanks everyone!
