Magician says 795GB data written on 980 Pro after 2 days use
RAS_3885 replied to jamieboo's topic in New Builds and Planning
Over six and a bit years of usage my OS drive has 18.8 TB written, which is under 10 GB per day. Almost 800 GB after just two days feels really high. Hibernation writes the computer state to disk before doing a soft shutdown, so depending on how many times you've hibernated the machine over this time frame could contribute, but still seems high. -
Checking CPU in BIOS without a cooler?
RAS_3885 replied to bootiecalls's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
You presumably have a cooler in your system now, right? Even just setting it on top of the CPU without mounting hardware would be better than nothing at all. -
Looks like it will be quite the project! Initially I'd say option 1 (top left on your drawing) would be my first choice since it affords the CPU radiator fresh air. It's unclear, however, what the front case structure will look like with regards to vents/openings for air to enter. Are both sides going to be mesh, or just the right side as labelled? That option also give the GPU a good supply of fresh air while moving everything left-to-right smoothly. Option 3 would be my least preferred since I think the radiator in that configuration would hinder smooth airflow through the case more than necessary and would be more prone to creating turbulent pockets of hot air. Your penmanship is nice BTW Quite the nice "napkin sketch".

Photography Monitor and Graphics Card Questions
RAS_3885 replied to sadastro's topic in Graphics Cards
I don't think the LG Ultrafine 5k would work since it requires Thunderbolt input and the 2080 doesn't have a Thunderbolt compatible output. The USB Type-C on the back of the card should work regardless of monitor as it's just a USB port. Same as the one on the back of the motherboard. Looks like it supports Displayport over USB-C, so obviously if you use that to connect to a monitor it won't be available for other uses. As for gaming... looking up 4k benchmarks for the games you are interested in will be the best way to judge performance based on the rest of your hardware. I think most of those photo/video specific displays are 60 Hz. -
Yes, any themes and startup changes within the OS will work just as they were.

It should function exactly the same as before the motherboard swap. Apps, programs, files, settings, everything should be exactly as you left them.

Warzone running at only 100fps with 1080p help
RAS_3885 replied to Thethrill's topic in Troubleshooting
What's your CPU and GPU utilization showing? Temps? Any frame limiters unintentionally set? -
Does the same issue occur in the BIOS or the start-up screen before loading into the OS?
-
Most GPUs nowadays have a zero RPM fan mode when temps are under ~60 C. That's why they stay off until a load is applied. I'm not familiar with Argus, but are you trying to use it to control the GPU fan speed or other fans in the system? If GPU, it's possible that software just doesn't hook into the GPU fans correctly to control their speed, which means the GPU's BIOS is still in control.

If it's just felt washers you could probably get something at a local hardware store as stand-in. If it's plastic the dimension might be important so a replacement might be harder to find.

If I understand correctly, all components are the same except motherboard, which you've swapped for a new one that's same model as old one. Correct? if so, yes, you should be able to just boot right up with your hard drive. I was in the same situation with an old Dell laptop. Motherboard died, swapped just the motherboard, and everything booted up fine.

Wifi and ethernet combined, BUT on seperate networks?
RAS_3885 replied to Scorch5000's topic in Networking
If they are separate networks you should just be able to connect to each simultaneously as you normally would connect to a network. I just tested on my desktop that's normally connected via ethernet. I was able to connect via wifi to my phone's hotspot (so a different network) at the same time and both showed internet access. Connecting your basement network via ethernet won't fix the wifi connection issues to the printer's network upstairs. -
How much Fans can this motherboard hold
RAS_3885 replied to DarkSplice's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Both being 3- or 4-pin fans is correct, but there's no reason you can't use two different 4-pin fans with a splitter. If the Cooler Master fan that came with the case is PWM (4-pin) you can use it with a splitter with one of the others without issue. I have no idea why the reviewer was saying they need to be identical. -
How much Fans can this motherboard hold
RAS_3885 replied to DarkSplice's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Simple one like this would work https://www.amazon.com/JBtek-Black-Sleeved-Splitter-Converter/dp/B01EF9OI0O/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2QZQXPLYJBW20&keywords=pc+fan+splitter&qid=1648498086&sprefix=pc+fan+splitter%2Caps%2C76&sr=8-3 Not advertising for or against the brand, it's just the first Amazon link for "pc fan splitter" as an example. -
How much Fans can this motherboard hold
RAS_3885 replied to DarkSplice's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Typically a motherboard header can handle about 1 amp. 2-3 fans per header is usually no problem, but specific fans used will be the final determination. Regardless, with 4 fans you'll be totally fine even without the use of a fan hub. Just a few y-splitters and you're all set! -
Quick way to switch between one and two screens in Windows?
RAS_3885 replied to Pleyland85's topic in Windows
WIN + P will also keep toggling through that menu if you keep hitting 'P' with the WIN key still held down. You also don't need to hit ENTER in that case. So, if you just remember the the number times to hit it you can switch almost instantly. -
Temps okay? Driver's up-to-date? How frequent are the stutters?

Rad is radiator. It's the bit mounted at the back of the computer. It looks like it really dusty so I'd try giving it a clean and see if that changes anything. Not sure why the AIO isn't showing up in the CAM software. Double-check the USB data connection between the pump and the PC.
-
Maybe, but I'd see if the new RAM fixes it first and then troubleshoot further if needed.
-
If you really have to wash it I'd use a tiny bit of dish soap or something in the sink and wash by hand. I'd imagine a washing machine would tear it up.

None of your data will just disappear, so no worries there. It is generally recommended to do a clean installation of Windows when switching core components (CPU and motherboard). It may just work, but you may end up having a number of lingering driver conflicts.

I need help with a Ram question
RAS_3885 replied to Brando420's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Yes, you can always run just one stick of RAM without issue. You will, however, take a performance hit due to it only being single channel. Two sticks in dual-channel will always be better. -
Easiest way is to just touch the CPU block. You should feel a slight vibration if the pump is running. Alternatively, if one of the hoses is significantly hotter than the other it might be an indication it's not pumping.
-
Per your above comment, you have an NZXT Kraken, which is an AIO. Pump might be dead.
